Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
EDIT: well, since my run is cancelled due to the new run superceding it, I think this topic can revert to being general MM discussion.  Especially since we don't have another one, anyways.

So I'm doing a least game time run of MM...again.  It will include all that wonderful hover glitch stuff, except of course the Lullaby Skip, which is difficult even for a TAS, and doesn't actually save game time.  I'll update this post with each new segment as they are made.

Playlist of all segments

Segment 1 (6:00-6:03)
Segment 2 (6:03-6:34)
Segment 3 (6:34-8:15)
Segment 4 (8:15-8:50)
Segment 5 (8:50-9:21)
Segment 6 (9:21-10:31)
Segment 7 (10:31-11:03)
Segment 8 (11:03-11:59)
Segment 9 (11:59-12:23)
Segment 10 (12:23-12:59)
Segment 11 (12:59-14:46) (Part 2)
Segment 12 (14:46-15:10)
Segment 13 (15:10-16:01)

Check time.  The run is now over.  At this point, I'll probably hover into the clock tower to save the time of waiting for Midnight, as I'll have enough chus.  Oh, and enjoy the mask-less ending, even though it'll still show the Ikana scientists's scene, which it shouldn't because I won't have the Gibdo Mask.

I'm really looking forward to this. I would love to see the route Grin
Existence as you know it is over
Nice, the master of MM finally lives up to his rep.
Ah, I'm thrilled to how this will turn out. Good job on the segments so far. Wink Go ahead and post the route too.

But does SDA really allow these kind of set-ups?
Here's a video of all the well known Great Bay Temple Tactics.

I know I forgot about your high grab trick petrie but I put its link in the description

Yeah Private Messaging sucks!

Anyway what about looping time tricks like the Zora Punch Dive and the thing where you play the Ocarina during the cutscene when Sakon steals from ZFG uhh... the old lady

BTW, the times when you post walls of text really make big bird depressed (he's my translator)
petrie, around what time are you aiming for?

Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
I'll assume looping time tricks are disallowed, as with them I'd get an easy 6:00 AM first day.  Admittedly one of the segments would be over 5 hours long, but it would be worth it.

Oh, and sorry about that ZFG.  You're unblocked now.  Don't know how that happened; I must have blocked you by mistake.

EDIT: Route is up.  feel free to point out mistakes and inconsistencies.

Oh, and MrPotter, I'm aiming for a sub-day completion, although I'm not sure exactly how realistic that is.  At the very least, before noon on the second day.
Awesome route petrie Grin I might try this myself.

Ok thanks.Youtube is going whack

Well it looks like a pretty solid route. Can't wait to see the run! Grin
This is the first time in a long time I will not post "Fuck you all."

I first joined this site to post something about a Majora's Mask run.  After 2 years of active posting (and 3.5 of lurking) I finally get to see an improvement to one of my favorite games of all time.  Good luck petrie911.  I wish you the best.

When was the last time you posted that?

Anyway, the next segment should be up soon.  I must warn you though, anri-chan seems to have a bug in it, as the sound is consistently ~.5 seconds ahead of the picture.  sorry about that.

Also, I just realized this really should be in older consoles.  whoops...

You are sooooo getting banned.

Besides that, I can't wait to see your next segment and I can't wait to see the finished product.

About your 2 segments so far -- You know what I have to say about them and yeah, I realize why you take a bit to line up your backwalks (it's partly why I gave up on speed running this game).  I know how to fix this problem though.  While you're about to turn around to backwalk, you have to memorize the direction on the analog stick you're going to press to get the perfect backwalk.  Then you have to quickly press that direction, release the analog stick, press Z/L, then backwalk.

The thing I noticed that really screws up backwalks is doing a constant turn + Z/L without releasing the analog stick after you've turned around.  All I have to say about is thank Nintendo for the Goron Mask. Smiley

Great work petrie911. When you told me you were going to do a MM speed run a while back, I thought you meant you were going to do a TAS of it.

Very nicely done segment (except for that one part).  If you weren't doing a least game time run, I'd say to redo the segment, but a mistake like that doesn't really matter in a least game time run.

If you do plan on redoing it though, I suggest doing what I did for parts of my OoT run that really pissed me off and I continuously screwed up on.  Practice the parts over and over again until you can do them every single try and very fast.

There's 2 things I suggest practicing:
1.  Bypassing the Octorok.
- You did this quite slow
2.  The darned Dragonflies!
-  Try entering the Deku Flowers at different times to find out the fastest (and safest) way to make it to the next Deku Flower.  Also, you probably know this, but you can kill the Dragonflies by hitting them while you come out of the Deku Flower.

How exactly could I do the big octo skip faster?

Nevermind, I just got a version of the segment that I'm definitely keeping.  8:15, baby.  Could probably go down to 8:14, but that Big Octo skip is REALLY hard to do quickly, and I lucked out an killed one of the dragonfles.

Now encoding.  Hopefully won't desync...

EDIT:  And here it is.  And it doesn't desync!  yay!

Glad to see you like it.  But no more segments for the next week.  I'm going on RAGBRAI, but I'll be back by next Sunday.

That and I just got the new Harry Potter book, and I'm staying off the Internet 'til I finish.
I know this has nothing to do with this run, but is it known, that it is possible to complete the Oceanside Spider House without the Fire Arrows?
