also, nate, I just always imagine you tired and serious, like if someone were to look into your eyes, they'd see a man broken by video encoding... but you seemed totally bright and cheery
Thanks for posting the pics/videos, nate and Arkarian. It's nice to finally be able to put faces with names, especially Mike's. You all look like a friendly bunch.
It's interesting to see the variety of ways one can hold a NES controller; Frezy holds it really vertically, Andrew has his right thumb perfectly straight across both buttons, and stanski uses his fore- and middle finger instead of his right thumb (which seems weird for a non-button masher). And all of these differ from how I hold it.

Frezy's method got me really interested, but I don't have an NES to try it out on. He holds it like a remote control. I wonder how he'd do with a Wii-mote?
Unfortunately, I did not bring a camera, so no pictures or videos from me.
Magfest was really awesome. It was great to meet everyone IRL. I really hope I can go to Magfest next year. Is it going to be in the same location?
The NES challenges were fun. I managed to do a decent amount (I wonder how I will place overall). I thought I did more, but I realized later that I got VERY close to completing several other challenges but I had to leave so early I couldn't. I think the SDAers completely dominated the NES challenges though. Almost every SDA member won a T-shirt by completing an expert NES challenge. Really shows how awesome SDA is
I managed to complete:
Burger Time (normal) - Should be hard IMO Castlevania (hard) Castlevania 2 (hard) Gradius (hard) Pro Wrestling (hard) Snake's revenge (hard) Snake's revenge (expert) SuperC (normal) Super Mario Bros. 2 (normal) Super Mario Bros. 3 (hard) Tetris (hard) - I bet many people couldn't do this one.
Frezy and I also had a little mario 3 speedrun competition. Twice... I lost both times. I blame the TV (seriously) hahaha. It's funny to see how our techniques were different. It was funny how I could get pretty far ahead and then Frezy just comes back and dominates. We also played some SuperC which was pretty cool. We both hadn't played in a long while though, so we were terrible. We kept doing the exact same things, it was pretty funny.
Stanski and I also had that smb1 faceoff. We both just died and so it was just a fun competiton. Then my game froze randomly and that was the end of that. That was cool.
Played some SuperC with Mike and once again we were awful. (Trying to speedrun a game that you don't know what you're doing doesn't work).
Magfest was great. I hope I can make it next year.
EDIT: actually I think my brother may have taken some pictures with his phone. I'll have to ask him later.
SDA Administration (they were too shy to do it themselves) demands that you make this your desktop until the next SDA Get-Together:
Epic group photo! Unintentionally, I'm front and center (and crouching to hide how short I am compared to every other SDA member)!
I'm going to eventually get around to adding captions near everyone labeling who's who, along with their forum avatar for maximum familiarity.
I have like, over 3 GB of photos and videos (from today [2009-01-02] alone, [with hopefully just as much tomorrow]) I'm going to mass-upload once I'm back in Louisiana for everyone!
updated my first post with pics + vids from second day. fork, you might want to c/p your second post to the first post so people don't miss that stuff.
Quote from xXIkuto:
yeah its hard to believe nate does as much video shit as he does for how hot he looks honestly
i really expected a much fatter, paler, socially freaked out, super afro, crazy awkward freaky smile, nate.
but he's hot
i'm a lot older than i was in the pictures you've seen i guess?

A lot of the arcade cabs here are refurb'd MK cabinets, presumably because nobody wants them.
The game series of Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 is banned in germany. I had very often visit denmark in my life and I had found in the year 1996 a Mortal Kombat 2 arcarde slot machine in 'Rømø'. This is a rarity in germany. This was my reaction of the shocked eyes. I have a dream for all this time in my life, I must have my own Mortal Kombat arcade gaming machine. Dream Forever.
I'm not very photogenic at all. I look a lot better in the flesh. =p
Either way, this whole event is a blast. Frezy's Contra run got a lot of applause when people came in for the next panel at the end of our first panel.
Also, when me and several other people went shopping, I bought the manliest Little Mermaid toothbrush ever. =D
We've got another hour until the next one. Let's see how it turns out. =D
I like that ark's blinded by the light and doesn't even bother moving. Also that a group of guys strolled into some store and discussed hair care products. <nate> Alright guys, this decision could change the life of my hair forever.
Mike: I get the feeling I've seen you before for some reason Carcinogen: your looks are so inconsistent between pics, I swear Maur: yo yo yo Jeff Goldblum spineshark: is hotttttt andrew: even hotter Enhasa: also hot, btw what are those prints you're holding in the group pic? nate: how tall are you? either there's a remote chance that I won't look out of place if/when I come to an SDA meet or frezy and Carc are just huge Breakdown: that is some kickass hair
