Lol Earthbound only takes 5 and a half hours max. I know Shin Megani Tensei games are long. But for long game how about super mario galaxy 2: 242 star speedrun?
Of course when you start going for 100%....eh it's silly to say "oh this'll take long" etc. I should think that one needs to consider "any%"because 100% can be rediculous or not even feasible (Disgaea series anyone?)
But again, I imagine Dragon Quest/Warrior VII would almost certain be at or near the top of the heap when talking about full on speed run of a game that has a definite ending.
If we start throwing 100% into the mix, I know PJ and Aftermath used to joke about racing Breath of Fire 3 100% because one of the items needed for the definition required having a game file that was over 50 hours or something like that. Baten Kaitos is joked about a lot too.
If we're talking just straight any%, some of the longer records I know of are in Xenogears (15:41:xx), Persona 4 (15:23:xx), Persona 3 (14:29:xx) and Dragon Quest 7 (13:47:xx). I would include SMT: Nocturne (14:20:xx with a PS2 hdd loader which means it's ike 16+ hours without that) but that run gets the true ending, and the run is probably like 5 hours shorter if you do one of the alignment endings, which are still valid and not just consolation prizes for the true ending like the alternate endings in the Persona games. So yea, PS1/2 JRPGs are really f'ing long. Of course it's hard to say which of these is actually the longest since it's hard to say how optimized these records are when they start reaching ridiculous times like this.

Honestly make you want to see a JRPG happen, huh? Personally, I would love to see a Persona run get added to the site, although it will be hard to say who would honestly put in the time to make it happen. Granted if there was a team put together to make it happen, a run wouldn't be that hard to complete.
BTW Romscout. Where did you get those records?
Edit: Wait a second! I did a search of this and found out that Neviutz actually has made an attempt at this. Shouldn't be too shocked since his specialty of speed runs is JRPGs. I think I'm going to watch his run.
I've been watching Neviutz run Persona 4 quite often. He's got the run pretty much on lock. Not sure if he would submit a run on the site though...too much luck needed to make the run go horribly wrong. Though I wouldn't put it past him to do a segmented run if he wanted.

From what I've noticed about Neviutz, he seems to be more of a "SS" kind of runner. Granted I wouldn't put it past his either if he decided to do Segmented runs. That said though, if there was a way to download videos from twitch, I probably would consider like to see how his attempts look when put together.
You could say any RPG without a clear "100%" Those could take a unrealistic time unless you cheated obviously, I don't think including MMO's to beat their "Story" would count either.
So out of all these that have been posted, is anyone out there even working on these longer games with impossible 100%? I think it should be what's doable in one sitting. I see that there are a few that are being undertaken but in reality who's going to do most of these games?
