MoMo
Felt like we could need a thread for this game as more people picked it up.

Currently, new skips are still being found everyday as we are kinda bruteforcing our way out of bounds.

Since I somewhat did the initial routing, I felt like updating the rules for starting/ending the timer. Discussion here would be welcome.

I will try my best to update the opening post here with the current WR, current rules and updates.

Current WR: 58:16  by Rydou [any% RTA]
Link to run:
http://www.twitch.tv/rydou/c/4883263

Rules for the run:

-> RTA Timer starts when new game is started [This is done by selecting New Game and clicking on 'Landing Site']
-> RTA Timer ends when credits appear [Screen fades to white, end the timer as soon as the white screen turns black]

These guidelines have been chosen for more consistency as due to fade-in and fade-outs it is hard to tell when control is gained or lost over the character.

- 100% has currently not be defined or routed. I assume it would be a pain in the arse as it involves finding all minerals/collectables during a playthrough and also potentially involve getting all messages. A 100% would therefore render pretty much all of our skips as useless.

Current Version: ?
Run Version: 1.3 (tweet me for link)

Ton of stuff has been discovered by Ovendonkey over the past few days.

I've also just found a way to skip the very first cutscene by starting a new game while being loaded into any chapter. Then don't click anything during the loading screen (mouse curser should still be there, if not, alt+tab twice before starting a new game). As soon as the into sequence starts (the countdown), press Enter and you should load into the Landing Site while the intro plays. You will encounter some weird lighting glitchess but able to move around.

There were a couple other things I found last night that you may want to try out as well. I'm editing this post with some descriptions since the recording/uploading is being temperamental.

There are a couple skips in Nightfall, one at the push boulder place (which I think you may know about), and one to skip the cutscene where the lady touches your butt.

Boulder skip: Inconsistent, but this skips the sequence where you have to push the boulder off a cliff and climb up. There is a specific area where you can jump from a run and clear the ledge where you would hop up on the boulder. It's off to the right of the ledge where there are a few grooves in the sand. Tough to explain, tough to execute, saves maybe ten or fifteen seconds.

Cutscene skip: In the little gully just before the cutscene where you get to lovingly peer into Aelita's deep green eyes, there are a couple boulders, one on the left side, and then one on the right. You can jump on to the boulder on the right, then leap over the divide to the path you would walk up after the cutscene. A bunch of roots pop out when you land, so be prepared.

You can also skip the elevator in Crater. Once you get the fuel, continue jumping down into the crater, past the notch where the button is, and climb one of the ledges on the other side. You can climb this all the way up out of the crater and end up on the other side.

I'm not sure if you saw the other run I put up yesterday, but there may be some stuff in there, along with Ovendonkey's stuff, that should absolutely smash the run time. I'll try to put up some videos of those other skips soon, but it seems like everything is acting up today.

Yea the boulder skip is actually not that hard, I just failed it in practice a couple of times as you can be a bit short so i went for the regular route in my run.

For crater, donkey showed me a way that makes it quite fast: get the fuel, go to the elevator button to get the check point, boost down and press the button, then reset and you will spawn right at the elevator. It's probably a bit slower but it's definitely less risky as long climbs can often fail for no reason and you will die a lot when the back jump happens :/ But I'll test that one out as well.
MoMo
I timed the wasteland OoB skip. I'm pretty sure now that it's the fastest route. You can probably optimize it a bit towards the end, but jumping off earlier is slower. Normal route is over a minute slower.
Nice! I tooled around the Dead Forest ice block today as well. You can go up the left or right side, or all the way around the top like Ovendonkey has done. I tried all three of those possibilities today. Going up the left side is silly as it's pretty technical and much slower (by 10-15 seconds), even when sticking all the jumps. As for the right side and the skip, they're within a few seconds of each other. Depending on which is more comfortable for the runner, both seem like viable options. That being said, I consistently made it up the right side of the ice block faster than doing the skip (~51 sec. from the checkpoint, vs. ~53 doing the skip).
MoMo
I feel the same about the ice section, I prefer going right
There's another guy running Lifeless Planet now, looks like. He put up a couple solid runs and found a sweet skip in Portal.

I just got a 1:18:03 run. I lost at least 3 minutes in the last couple chapters though.
That Portal skip above is really good, it's pretty easy too.

Here's the run: http://www.twitch.tv/ovendonkey/c/4765451
Someone will probably beat it in like a day or two.

Sub 1:15 now?
Sub 1:15, let's do it! That was a nice run you had. Some awesome skips in Nightfall. That place is rife with shortcuts, man.
I wanted to cry when the Ancients skip got you. That'll be a nice split next time though, haha.

I found a cool trick that lets you move during cutscenes. It seems a lot better than the "last checkpoint" thing we've been using.

I haven't really been able to mess with this very much yet. We'll need to find a good way to do The Town since picking up the first note will mess up the logbook on screen. We can probably press tab then Last Checkpoint ourselves at the checkpoint in front of the red building with the second note

Edit - Here's a route of The Town using the glitch:

+1 for the "pls no patch" plea, haha.
If you press tab when the screen starts fading out at the end of Last Stand, you'll have the logbook open at the beginning of Dead Forest. That allows you to start and move during the cutscene there immediately.

Also, if you press tab right before any cutscene starts the logbook will open and you can skip it. However, if you're too late, you can't open the log during the scene, so that's a pretty risky way to do it.
Here's a link to the run I had yesterday: http://www.twitch.tv/ratkingrunning/c/4783106
Time ended up being 1:11:27.9 RTA.

Also, wtrohsz actually had WR before that run with a really solid 1:15:37.

Edit: I hadn't watched all the way through when I posted, but check out the godlike Cliffs skip at around 49 minutes! YES
I had troubles with invisible walls trying for both the Cliffs skip (49 minutes in the above video) and the first Ancients skip (67 minutes). Am I being dumb? Let me know if you guys have any success with those, because I keep smacking into the invisible walls every time I try.

Ovendonkey: 2014-07-31 09:53:20 pm
There's definitely invisible walls in both of those places for me. Maybe he's playing on an old version or something.

I did find another way to skip the first part of ancients though. It doesn't seem quite as easy as his, but his isn't working at all for me.
I'll make a video or something when I'm able. It might need some explaining.

One more thing I've found is with the logbook glitch in The Town, you can make it most of the way to the Research Complex door before the cutscene ends, and you can get to it from there before the lack of oxygen kills you. So I guess we can skip that oxygen tank now.
Here's some new logbook stuff, including a way to skip the first part of Ancients. This could open up some interesting routes.

Nice stuff! That climbing trick should be wicked fast once mastered. You're the man, OD!

I think the fastest way through that tiny cutscene in Chasm is to just logbook skip it. And speaking of Chasm, congrats on setting up another suicidal checkpoint swan dive for the extended boost. I'm psyched to try that, haha.
I got a 1:07:08 run yesterday. Saved like 11 minutes over my last PB.
Here's the run: http://www.twitch.tv/ovendonkey/c/4816758
There's a new skip in Hot Springs and Inferno that I found earlier in that stream. Other than that, I think the only new stuff would be the few logbook jumps I tried.

Going for sub 1:05 next

Turns out you don't have to watch the cutscene at the end of Ancients.
Here's a route for that:

I think sub 60 could be possible now with a really good run

Also I was just messing around in the last cutscene in the video above. I'm not sure if I just happened to kill myself right when it transitioned from Abyss to Green Lands or if I managed to start Green Lands slightly earlier.

I knocked out a run in 1:03:48 last night (http://www.twitch.tv/ratkingrunning/c/4823492). Lots of great time-saving stuff, thanks OD.

I found something interesting, but currently unimportant to speedrunning. While in Chasm, I was able to jump past various monologue triggers ("Don't look down!") and die doing a yolo jump through the jetpack trigger. When I respawned, I did not have the extended boost (a residual of passing the trigger). However, once I continued on the normal path, hopping on the wires the normal way and triggering the monologues, the extended boost came back. I died again passing through the jetpack trigger, and respawned again with the single boost. This time after hopping up on the wires, the extended boost did not come back, and the monologues did not play.

So, it seems as if the monologues are one-time triggers and are also involved with jetpack fuel distribution. Perhaps the game sets the jetpack state at each of these triggers. This way, if a monologue trigger that sets the jetpack to extended fuel is hit before it is intended to be, the fuel can be obtained early. Though I believe in many of these cases it would be faster to simply pick up the fuel.

It is also possible that the two triggers are totally and completely unrelated, but it is still interesting to know that the game will give the boost back to you.

Ovendonkey > You are really good to "multi jump" with the logbook, do you spam the jump button, or do you just press jump at the right time, yolo style ?

I'm doing the second way, and I'm not too bad at it, but you look really consistent, so I was wondering :p !
And I'm recording some short skip, I'll post them later.

EDIT : Some alternative route, who seems to be faster than the actual route (maybe with some adjustment)
http://www.twitch.tv/rydou/c/4837782
http://www.twitch.tv/rydou/c/4837659 Even if the message about oxygene pop out, you don't need to get it.
http://www.twitch.tv/rydou/c/4836919 Obvious one
http://www.twitch.tv/rydou/c/4837506 Kinda stupid, but for those who are confident in their skill
http://www.twitch.tv/rydou/c/4838040 Alternative and easier Ovendonkey's skip on Chasm, it's 6-7s faster than the usual route.

For the moment, I didn't found any new major skip on the first half of the game, look like the invisible wall are well placed most of the time.
Nice skips! You can jump down into a checkpoint right in front of the jetpack fuel in Chasm. It's a suicide dive, like the one in Abyss, but I think it would be faster than logbook-falling down the cliff.
I forgot about the checkpoint ! You're probably right about the suicide being faster.

I'm still on vacation but wow I just saw ratking finally get the chasm jetpack skip done. Neat. I believe this might be one of the biggest timesaves so far? I'm pretty excited.
