Wow, I never thought I'd do this. Hi, I'm doing a speedrun of Lego Star Wars. I've practiced this for ages and ages, and my best time for the game was about an hour and a half. Since the game is really separated into sections (Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3) I think I should do 3 segments. Has anyone done faster than that?

If you're considering doing it segmented, might as well make it more than just 3 segments, do an amount where you have enough freedom to do each segment flawlessly. Wink

That doesn't really matter, since it was ported to all 3 current-gen consoles, loading times'll be excluded from timing.
i meant gba or cube/ps2/x box

I thought it was just PS2. I would have bought it if it was for GCN. I've heard fun things about this game.

Edit: ok, nevermind, it's for everything. Sweetness.
I'd still watch a run of this if it wasn't.
give me your eyes!!!
I practiced this for a while but couldn't decide whether to do a new game or already completed to use the character swap for pure speed.

Whatever you do I might do the other as they're completely seperate catagories.

Fun game to watch though (my 4 year old brother loves it!)
It is a bit kiddy but hey!

I'm not sure doing that would count as anything other than individual level runs, since that's only free-run mode.

I was going to do it in large chunks though so you can call it individual levels if you want but in reality it'll simply be playing the levels in order as fast as possible without a time trial basis.

No, there's Story mode (which you must complete to progress in the game) and I could do that.

The 'Cube port was released today IIRC (I know for sure it wasn't with the original batch of releases). I am playing it on the PS2.

EDIT: For entertainment purposes only, I think I might bring in some of the cosmetic extras (like brooms instead of lightsabers and silly looking blasters and silhouettes).

That's not a bad idea. Actually, I might need to do that for the podrace level (that's the only really difficult part of the game, and I'm much better at it after practice).

So I can still have a bash at character swap (forgotten the name of the mode).
That's my next project after Ratchet and Clank 3, can't believe I'm doing this game again.

I just realized, you couldn't do it on a fresh game because the final level (though it is a bonus) is only available with everything collected.
Have you taken that into consideration and if so do you plan to do it or leave it?
It's for GBA/PS2/GCN/Xbox/PC.

That level is not going to be run because it takes AGES to get full true jedi status (with the stud meter blinking yellow in every level). You don't need the canisters, though.

The character swap mode is called Free Play, and if you were to run it then there'd have to be a separate category for it on the run's page because some (most) of the levels are at least slightly different.

I'm not doing Replay Story mode either because it is not the same as the initial run through all the levels (some of the cut-scenes go away). To import extras, turn on the extra you want, then leave your file. Open a new one, and the extras are still on. I will not be leaving invincibility on though. (You can import characters this same way, only when you start the new file, make sure the character you want to use is your partner, not you)

That seems fair enough, of course it'll be a seperate catagory.

I would recommend not putting on codes like brushes, silouettes, purple, as it is amusing at first but detracts from the game after a while and for those who haven't seen it in its full glory before.
aw crikey!
I'd agree with most of the conclusions here:

* The last level can't be run except as an individual level, because getting True Jedi status on some of the levels is mind-numbingly boring.

* While you can do a Free Play run of all the levels in order, a Story run would be much more interesting, because you get the cutscenes, and more fun to watch, because there's less Yoda/Grievous cheese going on.

* Cosmetic options are fun, but not fun enough to watch a whole run with.

* You know what would rock? A co-op speedrun.

That's a very good point, I might try to train my sister till she's decent enough as my time restraints mean I can't have friends round during my recording opportunities (not that they'd want to help anyway).

...freaky...

it'll take a while though...

A co-op speedrun would be kickass. Hands down, I would want to do that. Too bad all of my friends suck at this game.

Does anyone have an idea how this game would be timed? Would the cutscenes count (since you can't skip them, oddly enough you can skip the storyline part at the beginning of a level).
dinosaur from the past
It'd be timed like any other non-built-in-timer game... First point of control to last, cutscenes included.

I've finally gotten some work done on this run. My estimate is about 1:30 for the entire game, but who knows, I could get that down to like 1:15 with good strategies. CannibalK9, what strategies have you developed? Here are some of mine:

• Droids are NEVER attacked except if the shot is fired before the change to a droid
• Droids can de-activate enemies for a quick escape
• Droids move slightly slower (especially C-3PO) but are of infinite use
• Sometimes, enemy troopers will TEAM UP with droids!
• Most of the doors in every level are unnecessary to open
• While attacking (standard) you are impervious to enemy fire
• The forward-attack combo is very fast and can be used to dive through enemies although you are NOT safe from attacks from blasters)
• Very rarely, you can move during cutscenes (and not be attacked), although I've only gotten this to work like twice, and I'm not sure it works on any other versions than the PS2 version
• Some 'mini-bosses' without health can be skipped if you're very quick

Now there are some parts that you can skip in free play with Jar Jar as well, too bad you can't skip them in Story mode.

My run will be no-death, probably segments for each level.
give me your eyes!!!
My tricks were very similar, but don't overuse the droids due to slowness. Keep parallel with the enemy and they rarely hit you, and try and watch the fire because I played for a while yesterday and didn't get hit by doing this.

Nice that you're doing no-deaths, I was hoping for that, but 1 level per seg seems a bit extreme. If I did it I reckon I could do 1 episode per seg. But It's of course whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Oh and I discovered that the 'Mos Espa Podrace' is actually fairly easy if you know the route that completes it without taking damage.

*My 4 year old brother and my mum were playing co-op yesterday. It was hilarious! My mum couldn't jump onto a ledge for about 5 minutes :D, and my bro's suprisingly good*
lsw
I was thinking about 1 episode per segment but there's always the podrace, which no matter how much practice I'm terrible at, and Defense of Kashyyyk, which isn't so much of a problem for speed, but I have a serious problem about staying alive in this course (unless I go really, really, really slowly), especially the end.

I might be able to have a sample up on Sunday, because I have a ton of work to do today and tomorrow.
It's-a me, Raven!
How about segmenting it into 2-4 levels at a time? Do the levels up to the podrace as your first segment, then play the podrace and the next few levels as a third segment (as an example of ep. 1) - this would net you a total of about 6 segments, with an optional 7th file for the Tantive IV...
give me your eyes!!!
That's a good plan.

What exactly is the problem with Defense of Kashyyk? Yoda is a dodging god, all it needs is some speed at not having enemies on screen while repairing the bridge for Chewy, and the rest should be cake if you're good at boulder avoidance...

I can go fast, even across the beach, except I'll have some problems at the last part in surviving (the part where you have to force pull the door on the ship open, and the troops are constantly coming and shooting, I can almost never get it consistent enough to not die while doing it without sacrificing speed). Because of this, I think that this level, along with 3-5 and 3-6 should be in one segment.
