I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I have to say that this is probably one of the funnest games that I have ever played.  Since this is so, I'd like to try a speedrun.  It would be my first ever recorded run; I've thought of others in the past but never got around to it.  It doesn't seem like it will take too long to plan, and hopefully I can get some help from you guys ^_^

I'll first try an Any% Fastest Time Speedrun.

I probably won't start until Wednesday or Friday, but, by golly, I will attempt this.

Any discussion on the matter is appreciated.

This was one of those games that I didn't stop playing until I had 100%.  I'm a huge fan of the movies (I can't even count how many times I've seen each), so the games were a pleasure.

I'd love to watch and see what tricks you manage to find.  I remember with the LEGO Star Wars runs, a lot of people were disappointed by how linear things were with the lack of time-savers, so I'm hoping this game has some good ones.  Off-hand, I can't recall anything good from my playing, but if I find anything, I'll pass it on.

So it's coming along (extremely) slowly, but surely.

After beating the game to 100% (Save for a few Achievements), I've gone through the first two levels of the first movie without collecting any items that would be collected on a 100% run, which would be Artefacts, Parcels, and True Adventurers.

What I think I'll do is, if this method works on every level (which I don't see why it wouldn't) do a run of the levels with no items, and then, of course, a 100% run later.  The only hard part about the 100% levels would be which studs to go for to get True Adventurer.

I'll keep you posted.

Really nice to see someone doing a speedrun for this, I really like the game and I think I have 7 or 8 100% saves on my ps3 for this Cheesy same for Lego Batman. and ye, timesavers in this game is really hard since there doesnt seem to be any =P I hope you will find something awesome and I'll tryu to help you in any way I can, good luck Smiley
I finished the DS version in sub 1:20, but other versions are harder...

If all goes well, I'll also do a Lego Batman run, and possibly even Lego Star Wars... but don't let me get ahead of myself here; my first run is work enough Tongue

Good luck with this project. I found the controls horrible if you're in a hurry to get somewhere, especially building stuff from the blocks, and I always like to see bad controls mastered.

Yeah, the controls are a little clunky, but I'm willing to deal with it ^_^

The hard part about the 100% run would be that it'd be doubled.  You'd have the storyline, then you'd have to buy the other characters to go back in the freeplay mode in order to get all of the secret items that can only be accessed by certain types.  But you'd need money for that first.  Obviously, the first things you should aim to get would be all of the Multiplier bonuses.

That's gonna be a bitch.

I've thought of a certain way of doing a 100% run.  Just by doing a Low% run, then, continuing after that's finished, going back to the levels in Free Play and getting all of the items in one go.  I'd like to do a run without any cheats, as it would be more interesting that way.
Rawr!
what do you mean by cheats, the stuff you can buy or with codes? :p still, 100% would be pain to do and also it kind of sucks to watch the whole game and then watch it again so I think a any% would be cool even tho I think all games should be played 100% hehe.

Knever's idea for this speed run may be interesting.  However, playing without the collected cheats may make the game far too long as it will take a lot of studs to get everything, y'know.

Just letting you guys know that I'm not dead, and I haven't abandoned the run.  Unfortunately, I did get sidetracked with the other Lego games which I now also have >_<

But I can assure that I'll get bored of them soon enough to get back to this run ^_^

I've played LEGO Batman and LEGO Star Wars and only a tiny bit of LEGO Indiana Jones (First 2 levels I believe) at my brother's place so I'm not looking forward to your run because when you would finish it I'm sure I can't resist to watch it and thus spoil the whole game... Grin

Well, good luck with it, and I hope you'll do runs of the other LEGO games, too Wink

There's no Lego Batman thread...Oh well, Lego Indy is similar, but Lego Batman is a lot more fun (and more polished). I want to do a speedrun of that someday, but I lack any recording equipment. =P

Are you planning on doing individual levels or a run of the full game?
I think Knever is aiming for a run through the whole game. It is true that a 100% run would take some nerves to do and watch. Mainly because it isn`t really speedy anmore if you are going for True Adventurers (judging from my experiences from Lego Starwars II - reached 100% today! Smiley ).

Therefore I say: Go for an any% run, upgrades / extras allowed. This would probably result in the highest speed possible. Multiplier bonuses (as mentioned), maybe super weapons (again from my experience from LEGO SW II), enemy disabling extras (is there an equivalent to the tractor beam in IJ?) and unlimited vehicle ammunition are worth the points anytime.

Concerning timesavers:

- Often you don`t need to activate everything in Free Mode, opposed to Story Mode, since you can switch characters and therefore carry every character / function you need in your pocket.
- Some barricades you normally would have to destroy in order to advance may be jumped over in some cases. Try to find ledges / brick / vehicles (some give huge jump boosts when you exit them) to increase your hight.

I really hope to see an Indiana Jones run. Try to focus on one game / run at a time and try not to get distracted too much by the others.  Wink Good luck - and may the brick be with you.

EDIT: Just had a look on Youtube. There are quite a lot of glitches (some Oob aswell), so there might be some shortcuts after all.  Smiley Example:
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
A Min% would be just runs of all the Story Mode levels, no other collectables involved. Trying to go out of the way for extras and such would waste time. There's no "Super Story" in Lego Indy, so you'd just have to play them one after the other. I'm not sure how you'd want to do that, you could just do an individual level run of each game's story mode, unless you're feeling gutsy and do all the levels of one movie, which should take about an hour. Of course, you could run all three movies in a single segment...But I'd personally avoid that.

If you're just going for min%, go for speed over collecting stuff and look for shortcuts. If, however, you're gonna do a 100% run, look at what extras you feel could be handy, and unlock the characters for Free Play as soon as possible. I'm not sure which ones are needed since I never played Indy, but the sooner you unlock them, the better. I know Super Fists and Regen Hearts can come in handy for survival, and Treasure Magnet (and the stud multipliers if you can afford them) will make True Adventurer easier.

The only problem would be studs...I don't think there's areas you can farm studs quickly in Lego Indy, but then again I don't know the game that well. The basic farming strat would be to go to an area where LOTS of enemies respawn, turn on chara studs and stud magnet along with any multipliers you have, and start bashing heads. Also note that the studs you get from minikit completion are affected by the multipliers, so keep that in mind too.
Ah ok, I had suspected some differences concerning some mechanisms between SW and IJ. If Regen Hearts in IJ works similiar to the SW version it probably should be skipped, since you can easily avoid enemy attacks or get through a melee including multiple baddies by directly collecting the hearts given by defeated opponents, resulting in a life prolonging effect. Plus, your team partner (AI I assume) can be abused as a meat shield (not useful while moving, but for building and / or pulling levers).

That's true, and it's fairly expensive in all the games it appears in. I just like it as a safety net because deaths cost you a few seconds you could be using pushing levers or building things. It's also helpful in areas where you're dogged by endless enemies (which is fairly common in IJ). Deaths also cost you studs if you're trying to go for True Adventurer, so staying alive can keep you from hunting down more studs. Not sure how much time getting Regen Hearts would compare to collecting studs in this game, though...
How's it going with the run?

I'm playing the game myself currently again, and I'm near the end of Act 2, so start bringing on those runs Wink
Anyway, I came across this video which could solve the studs problem for a 100% run. According to the comments it has something to do with buying Artefact pieces (EDIT: Oh, I think coop is involved...). I haven't tried it myself yet.
I've thought about the lego games a couple of times. Having played through all of Lego Batman 2 and getting all of the bricks as well as Lego Pirates, I think there would be phases to a speedrun. First there's story mode and then secondly there's getting everything else later on.

SDA would probably have to make a ruling on this since most games, if there's a 100% category, would have to be played from scratch. I don't see what the problem would be with having a speedrun of simply getting everything else in a Lego game. Obviously, we would have to know what characters are unlocked just by playing through story mode and proof that no cheats have previously been unlocked even if there is the studs available to buy them.

Lego Pirates x2 is 500,000. I'm pretty certain that x2 is Batman 2 quite a bit cheaper.

Batman 2 also has the Toy Gotham level where you have to get every stud to beat the level and cheats are completely disabled. Essentially it's just destroying everything, but it would still be fun it see how fast someone get finish it.

The hardest part of each run would be getting studs fast. For instance, with collecting characters, in Harry Potter 5-7, most of the characters are very expensive. The multipliers cost quite a bit too. I don't think I could ever even attempt a run of the Lego Harry Potters with how many characters there are and keeping track of the different rooms at Hogwarts, but Pirates and Batman...if nothing else, I could give advice and possibly plan routes.

But first, we need the SDA ruling on 100% for Lego games.
i think you could make an argument for individual level runs, but collecting everything after story mode seems silly to me as you may as well include the story mode and do a 100% run.  meanwhile just doing a story mode run would obviously be acceptable and already exists for lego star wars 1.

i've only played lego indy 1 and lego star wars the complete saga.  from my observation star wars requires 4 playthroughs of each level (only 3 of 3-1) to 100% plus a lot of extra stuff.  it's unlikely a 100% run would be reasonable for such a large and repetitive game.  indy on the other hand requires 2 playthroughs (unfortunately the red brick doesn't appear in 3-4 on story mode because every other collectable you can get (even the red brick) with just indy and henry).  the major goals of a 100% playthrough are to probably get the multipliers as quickly as possible so as to waste less time on true jedi/true adventurer/etc. as well as be able to afford all the extras.  from there you'd want to buy characters you can't unlock in story mode (think in star wars it's just bounty hunters, in indy it's exploders, thugee, and "enemy" soldiers) and cheats that increased the speed of activities fast build/fast force/etc.

i actually had some interesting observations on indy that essentially there are nine character types (whippers (any indy), diggers, engineers, exploders,  high jumpers, shorties, thugee, scholars, and "enemy" soldiers).  if you play 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, and 3-1 you unlock all but exploder and "enemy" soldier (thugee you have to buy).  you can get the remaining ones to buy by playing on to 3-3 or either 1-3 or 1-4 (it makes more sense to me to go for 3-3).  from here you can build a party of six characters that have all the skills necessary though i suggest the player characters be elsa and maharaja in level select to avoid getting extraneous redundant characters like short round, willie, or brody.  whatever indy you get will be your whipper, you'll get satipo as a digger, jock as an engineer, elsa will be your high jumper and scholar, the maharaja will be your shortie and thugee, and if you buy the bazooka soldier from either raiders or last crusade you cover exploder and "enemy" soldier.  not sure how much it helps to go for these characters first as you'll probably just race through story mode on the first go and then want to target levels with multiplier red bricks but i thought it was interesting to note.
