That makes sense.

Yeah I've known about this for a while, but it doesn't actually save any time. I have it pretty consistent now, I was just super nervous in my WR run. Speaking of witch, with all the strats we found today, I got the run down to 16:14.

Nice! I just found another thing that could be a small timesaver in the first part of the level where you get the toa stone:

EDIT: Also somebody who I talk to on twitter got interested in this game now with all this stuff.

That means you could skip the first half of Onu-Koro, but then you wouldn't be able to get the launcher,.
I don't think you could beat the game without the launcher, problem is you need it to knock the villager off the bird before Le-Koro. Unless you found some other way to trigger the minigame...

Actually that gives me an idea.

I already found a way to skip that, don't think I recorded it though. Actually you can only do this after you've knocked the matoran off the bird. If you get to the top of the area you can long jump to trigger the minigame, but there are a few other places that you need the launcher that I forgot about.
EDIT: Also skipping the second turtle does save time.
EDIT2: Apparently you can't even enter the second zone until you beat the first, so there goes that plan.

I Just oneshot the scorpion boss in Po-Koro. No idea how, and I wasn't recording, so keep your eye out for that.
EDIT: Do you know what version of the game you are running? I'm on version 1.0. I know there are other versions out there though because I had a ROM that had six languages instead of two.

Remember what I said about the game respawning you on lava board because it's not supposed to put you in respawn loops?

Never mind about that.

I noticed one of the times I respawned I was actually standing on the water, idk if that could be abused in any way somewhere else.

EDIT: What happened in case you can't tell was that I was snatched by that enemy that grabs you and drags you into the water while using the launcher.

EDIT 2: For these vids I'm using the version with two languages. That other version might be the european region or it could be a version released after LEGO faced the lawsuit and had to rename a bunch of things (such as Tohunga to Matoran).

More launcherless stuff cause reasons:

Improved Ga-Koro Skip strat:

EDIT: Doing Le-Koro skip from the higher area close to the boundary seems faster:

EDIT2:
I would have thought this was background:

EDIT3: Alternate Ko-Koro Skip, probably slower than old method:

EDIT 4: improved Ta-Koro first section skip:
1. Tried that, but unless launcherless is a thing, that strat is super slow.
2. Why didn't I think of doing that. I'm dumb.
3. It is, was just timing that actually. It doesn't work from the second triangle , only the first and third.
4. I only knew it wasn't because for awhile I was trying to use them as platforms on the right side for a Le-Koro skip.
5. Probably slower, but I'll time it latter.
6. Again, totally should have tried that.

Could probably long jump with the Po-Koro to Le-Koro boundary hop as well.

You now have a way back if you do Ko-Koro skip:

In case you forget the ice pick and don't/can't reset???
EDIT: Actually I thought of a genuinely good use for it, it means you can do Le-Koro, Ko-Koro, and Ta-Koro testing all on the same file. I don't think you can get back to Po-Koro after going to Le-Koro (or if you can, I don't remember how), so you would have to have to do pre-le-koro testing separately.
Yeah, but because those levels are one big skip now, still not super useful.

Should be faster than trying to jump straight up like in your run and avoids enemies (my execution could be better though):

EDIT: also this was the boundary jump I was talking about a while ago with po-koro:

I realized later that that actually wouldn't lead as far into the level as I thought it would have and therefore would be pretty pointless even if it had worked.

It showed me at the time that boundary hopping would work with stuff besides water and outside Ga-Koro though and that was pretty important.

EDIT 2: Alternate way across the first abyss (that you actually go across) in the Onewa rescue:

Might be faster in certain situations?
Definitely gonna use that first strat.
Ah, yeah. I forgot that that area was even there.
Yeah that could be faster depending on where you kill that bug guy.
I think this should be faster when trying to get the Po-Koro Toa Stone:

Now to look into that quick kill.

Nice.
I was messing around with the quick kill and haven't been able to get it again.

Found an alternate route to Ga-Koro. It was 2 seconds slower then the optimal route, but with practice it could be faster.

EDIT: Also, a minor optimization, right where that video ends, after you use the launcher to cross the gap, you can make the jump to the next island from the left side of that bush. Should save a small fraction of time.

EDIT: I noticed this yesterday, but just confirmed it, you are completely invincible and intangible while boundary jumping. Not sure if there is any place to abuse that to much, but its food for thought.
EDIT: You do however still trigger events.
I'm not making any progress on the quick kill. :/

Messed around with other stuff and lol:
I had the first part of that happen (when the screen shakes insanely), happen to me once before was never able to replicate it, though I didn't try to hard because it was terrifying.
Two things:

Knockback manipulation on ledges, I saw that you manipulated the knockback with the boulders in Onu-Koro, this is a similar concept, except with ledges:

Crash I knew about for a while, not useful:
Yeah I use it a lot when exploring the game and hunting for more skips, but in the main route I haven't found many uses for it. In that area there is a ledge then you can infinitely get knockedback. I'll get a video of it. Pretty entertaining.

Didn't know there were any total crashes, cool. Any idea why that happens? Can the enemy just not be over the air?
Edit history:
TheMG2: 2015-10-04 11:39:40 am
Certain enemies are programmed to be able to fall in the abyss, I'm guessing that enemy wasn't programmed to be able to do so. I think you can drag it over the air all you want, but if you drop it over the edge it crashes.

EDIT: 100% strat I guess for Ga-Koro:

The other Ga-Koro crystal is in the area with the Toa Stone. It's past the health + energy upgrade that is hidden inside the blocked cave.
Here is the infinite knockback.

I don't think 100% would be a very fun category. Getting all the crystals would be fun (and could be a category), but winning all the minigames seems really tedious.
Edit history:
TheMG2: 2015-10-04 11:48:55 am
Does winning all the minigames do anything? You supposedly get the copper mask, but it always seemed to show up for me if you simply win the last minigame... and then it isn't a permanent flag or anything. It just shows as a different results screen for that last minigame.
EDIT: Though I might have had a used cart... all the minigames were already unlocked when I got it, and I think there was a file already on it too. Maybe that is some weirdness with how the game tracks minigame completion that carries over between files?
I'm not sure. I always assumed it was. I never really played the minigames in the game. I just played them from the main menu.
I think the copper mask just appears on the results screen when you beat the last minigame, regardless of how you did on the others. Cause I've seen it without winning the Ga-Koro minigame, I can tell you that much.
