I was browsing the Knowledge Base the other day just incase I would be able to pick up on some things and I noticed there was no info for the Dazzle DVD Recorder, so I thought it would be nice to share some info about it since I use a Dazzle.
First of all, there are quite a bit of Pinnacle products for recording, but the one I use in particular is probably the most common, which is the Dazzle DVC 100, so any info I give is referring to that device specifically.

Now then, I'll begin giving out details as the Knowlege Base has them listed.
Model/Title and Manufacturer are already there.
NTSC: Yes
PAL: Yes
PAL-60: Yes (I'm not fully sure about PAL-60 in general, but I've seen people do PAL-60 before)
SECAM: Yes
HiDef: No
Quality: Good
Inputs: Composite and S-Video

A bit more info on this particular Dazzle is that it works fine on XP (I have XP SP3), but everyone who uses it on Vista or W7 need drivers to work properly which can be downloaded from http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/Hardware_Installer/readmeHW10.htm
Also, there is something to take into account when using the Dazzle. I'm not fully sure what to call it, but there is a strange "problem" with the default colorspace "NTSC_M". In that setting, the colors seem to bleed in a strange way, especially noticable during a fade-in and fade-out to a black screen. Setting it to "NTSC_M_J" fixes the color "problem" and now they will look correct, fades will be alot better looking and more detail in some darker areas in games will be more noticable.
Overall, definately a great SD capture device and I personally have no problems with it.
Thread title:
When in doubt, use explosives.
I have additional information, or rather, experiences I can provide with.
I personally also have a DVC 100, and upon trying to stream to specifically justin.tv with my European PS2 slim plugged directly into the device, the official application used for JTV/Twitch streaming claims that the audio sample rate is not supported by the device no matter which sample rate I set it to.

A way to get around this, if you mainly aim for online streaming, is to get a small adapter so that the red and white plugs on your composite cable (the ones providing audio) are adapted/converted into a 3.5mm stereo plug like any other headphone plug, and plug it into a line in or microphone port of your choice on your computer, and simply choose the respective input port in the application.
I have not looked into whether or not this is a known problem for the device, I just thought I'd share what I've had happen to me.
The above workaround has worked every time since you bypass the device and use it to primarily record video instead.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I've heard things like that from people with Vista and W7 as well. Streaming video AND audio seems to be a problem for people. I have no problem doing that on XP SP3 though. I made a tutorial a long time ago for streaming video along with audio without the need for any adaptors, but I still get complaints from people with Vista or W7 so I'm not sure how to help in those cases. Either way, here it is if it may come in handy:

The Dazzle has a flaw that prevent you from using the audio connections on it unless you're using THEIR software.  Just get a Y cable and a copy of female couplers.  It's not that expensive and will save a ton of headache.
Devastation
Are you serious? Wooooow, that really sucks. Man, Pinnacle couldn't have been more of a douche with that move.
Fucking Weeaboo
Yep.  I don't know if it affects all Dazzles, but the DVC100 (the most common one) does.

As a Dazzle user, I admit it while it doesn't work like many other recorders, it is actually pretty good if you use it with an output on your television...  While I agree that Pinnacle isn't that great if you aren't using their software, using it to record games is still very good quality, although if you are talking about streaming, then yea, as soon as you figure it out, please share your findings...

Actually, come to think of it, I'm pretty sure they're using a Dazzle for streaming during the marathon.

Which one specifically?  I got two different kinds of Dazzles, although I'm sure it probably isn't either of the two I got...

It's definately the DVC 100. I can see the nasty color problem I mentioned earlier, most noticable during fades.
When in doubt, use explosives.
Also, what is the ideal application to use when recording with this device?
I tried Pinnacle Studio for on-the-fly encoding to xvid or h.264, started getting frame drops with that however if I'm not mistaken. Was a while ago since I last tried.

In essence; when you want to record to a local file and set your own settings, what's the ideal application?
Fucking Weeaboo
You can use VirtualDub, just remember to route off the audio cables into Line In.  And it's best to encode with a lossless codec like Huffy or Lagarith.

Sorry for the bump, but a friend of mine who also uses this Dazzle has Windows 7 and he stumbled across a thread on a lets play forum. Apparently it's a hack for Virtualdub that allows audio recording without any extra cables, and he said it works for him just fine.
Fucking Weeaboo
Cool find.  I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate it.
Devastation
Yep, now all we need is a way to stream audio with it without having to use Virtual Audio Cable or streaming the PC screen with the game and sound open in Virtualdub. Hope this all comes in handy folks!
Hi! I'm andrewg!
I'm still having some issues. I've purchased a Y-Cable... yet I cannot figure out how to make the computer play what is being played on the TV for audio. I'm not sure what to do.

Hi! I'm andrewg!
I think this laptop might not have a line in?  :/

I will never have a working stream, I swear

You should have a microphone jack at least.  It's not as good as line in (which is why we recommend line in for that y-cable) but it's about the only way you're gonna get it to work with the dazzle.
Doing it that way, should the audio be playing from the speakers? I cannot figure out why the audio won't play.
Fucking Weeaboo
As long as the mic isn't muted in your audio control panel and (if you have Vista/7) you have the option to play mic/line in audio though the speakers. (See attached.)

THANK YOU!!! haha... I somehow managed to miss this section.
Well, it sounds like complete crap and doesn't synch up with my video. Oh well... I tried. I'm done though. I'll stream later next year
