Damn. I've attempted this speedrun a number of times now and I can't seem to get through it with one segment. Do you guys mind if I make it segmented again (it would be a lot easier for me and possibly a bit faster)?
It's segmented. I died once but it's only minor. And the rest of the run is pretty good. Haven't got my end time yet...and i'm not quite sure how I should time it. But hopefully it will be up soon.
Well, at least I get one verifyer. I hope it's good enough. Klonoa is such a bitch to run. Now, I guess I just email Mike about the run now (yes, i'm a complete noob).
Anyway, since my Tombi run is on hold indefinitely due to a scratched disc, I'm tempted to have a go at running Klonoa. Let me just got one thing off my chest: nothing against you SL, but I think doing a segmented run is flawed. You can save after each level very easily, so could just have one segment for each level. And that's just an IL table.
So basically, I have a few potential ideas: do SS any%, or an any%/100% IL table (do both because it's such a short game).
Unfortunately, yes it did. But I can fully understand why. First off, my segments were terrible. You're right, I needed many more segments (I'm just not a fan of short segments). Secondly, my disc is ex-rental and it is common for the music to muck up (pretty much the main reason of it's rejection). And thirdly, I found that the Pamela battle was bullshit. I guess I could run individual levels, not too bad of an idea actually.
I do not suggest you try an Any% SS, it isn't too bad earlier in the game but it's a bitch getting through the last few visions without a single-death.
It is rumoured that Klonoa: Door to Phantomile will be coming to PSN, so I guess I'll be downloading it and speedrunning that particular version if it does.
Nahatomb isn't too bad, but I normally end up getting caught on dissapearing platforms in his third form, when i've already loaded four cannons, and then can't physically escape the platforms.
If you're going to go for any% IL, I'll do the respective 100% (would that be all gems + all friends, 'cause that could prove a nightmare )
For 100%, I'm still trying to think whether the Moonstones would be needed. It might be better if they are included though. I know for sure that all the friends must be rescued.
I wonder if I should try fixing my disc. Or maybe I could wait for the rumoured PSN release.
I'm guessing the best thing to do about friends is do a play through without getting any friends, then do IL runs when you have level select available.
(Isn't it dream stones?- apologies for being pedantic)
There are 150 in each level: the first time through, the number you collect is not recorded. However, after you complete the game, you can replay every level, and the number you collect is recorded.
However, this is complicated by the fact that there are "friends" to collect, which can only be done one time. So, if dream stones are included, you would have to complete the game, colleecting no friends, then do each IL collecting 150 dream stones and all friends.
I've been trying to speedrun that level for ages, but I can never pass it without multiple deaths. I'm pretty sure my best was like 3-4 minutes, but I know I can do a lot better.
Do you have Klonoa 2 SL? It seems much better for speedrunning (at least for 100%) because the number of dream stones collected are recorded on your first playthrough. However, if you were doing 100% IL, would you have to collect every gem possible, even if this exceeds the intended 150 (in addition to the moppet dolls pieces)? I know that ~half of the levels can exceed 150 dream stones.
Also, even though this game (in my opinion) doesn't suit a segmented playthrough instead of ILs, what reasons would there be to do a segmented run?
No, I do not have Klonoa 2 but I have played through it. Yeah, that would make a good speedrun though I do not have it so I can't run it.
I understand that a segmented run is not the best for Klonoa but I kept dying and blundering, so I decided to segment it to keep my patience...though even that made it annoying. The truth is, I suck at speedrunning platformers. I think I'm gonna start running RPGs from now on, with the exception of some outside that genre.
I have loads of free time due to early sumemr holidays, and we should be purchasing a DVD recorder soon. Which run would you like to see first?
Also, regarding 100% runs of levels: 100% would be 150 dream stones + 6 phantomilians, and it should be fine to do this prior to completing the game because the number of dream stones collected can easily be recorded by looking at the bottom of the screen.
Also, I'm pretty sure on 1-2, it is quicker to do the method that yields >150 dream stones, because glitching past the big moo saves you having to wait for the shield moo to appear. However, the maximum, 157, would probably be slightly slower.
