rms4wwf: Goodluck on the run.

Estryark: More read people than post. This is common and can unintentionally be discouraging. They most likely visit a topic once a day for any updates on what's happening, read it once, then close the window. If there's been nothing new for a while, they'll ask about the run. As Altair said before, there's plenty of people interested but they don't post.

I'd like to help out with the Fatal Frame 100% run that was recently announced, but I don't own the game to offer any advice or help so I'll probably end up posting once or twice before she finishes her run.
I'm very interested in watching a Killer7 speedrun.
I wanted to see Shin's one but I can't download it :/ (is the link dead ?).

That's all.
Good luck runners !

And here you had my hopes up that some progress was being made on this run, but no! Damn your bumping of threads!
No worries Captain Crunch.  I'm heading off to class, and when I get back in two hours, I'm doing a casual refreshment of this game, and doing this project.

I played this game to DEATH upon its release for probably 2 months straight, so I should get back into things relatively quickly.  Now I honestly can't remember anything time wise related to this game, but what's a rough estimate on this?  2.5 - 3 hours?  I really can't picture this at all.
I just went through the first chapter, Angel, and totally forgot how much fun I had playing this game.  I realized that I stopped just becuase I played nothing but this game for 2 months straight and wore myself out.  This game could be VERY interesting as a speed run, I'm gonna run through it a few times then start really figuring our routes and what upgrades to use, etc.  I really hope someone else still has knowledge of this game, I'd love to talk about it.

I too, played the crap outta this upon its release, then bought it a few months later, and only played for a bit. I'd like to back into this and see if I can help. I had some old notes back when I started trying to speed through this, I'll try to find them.
Awesome, someone else helping out, and a familiar face at that.

It's a Killer 8 run done in 6:17:19 by Shin, and from what I've heard, it's a solid run (despite the run's length). I just added the video lengths displayed together, so the time I wrote isn't the 'real' time.

Shin's site being the way it is, if the videos don't work (even mid-download) you have to try again later. I've lost the downloads way too many times to try again. It should be ok if you're not on dial-up. A rough estimate of the file sizes would be: (video length) multiplied by 4.

I hope Estryark resumes his run, now that there's more interest and competition.
Off the top of my head, 6:17 doesn't sound quite right, even with the multiple parts per chapter.  Some chapters shouldn't be more than 15-20 minutes a piece, even with multiple parts.  They do get longer in length as it goes on, but 6+ hours doesn't seem right.  Then again he is on Killer 8, I'm still playing through the game.

The run I've decided to do is Killer 7 nomal, SS non-100%.

Estryark isn't going to be resuming this run.  We have been PM'ing each other, and he said while he's willing to assist with his knowledge and previous work on the game, he's too busy to do do a run himself.
This game is NOT going to take ANYWHERE close to 6 hours.  The only thing I can imagine making him take that long was if that included the cutscenes.  Even with the added difficulty of Killer 8, 6 hours can't be close.

The good news is, this should be a very fun run to watch.  I'm giving a rough estime of 2.5 hours, so it'll be somewhat short to watch, and if you've never played this game, you're in for a treat.
IIrc, shin's run was killer8 mode AND low%, and he didn't use Young Harman either. 2nd Ayame fight took ages.
If by low% you mean no upgrades (meaning upgrading skills, etc, with serums) then that would certainly make more sense.  Thanks for the clarification.

Right now I'm wondering what the pros and cons of skipping the power and stamina rings are.  The stamina ring may allow me to run through enemies and take more voluntary damage, thus not having to open my menu to restore health as often, or having to waste time turning into Kevin, and then activating invisibilty.  The power ring may not help that much in the long run.  You're going to be hitting one-shot weak spots on 95% of the enemies anyway, and the only really long battle (Ayame, Part 2) I just completed ~1 minute, and I'm not sure how much faster it would be with the power ring.  Most likely not much, because I might have to heal more often considering I'll also be tkaing more damage in the process.
I doubt the boost from the Power Ring is worth it, and you won't need the Stamina Ring unless you tend to mess up the dodge trick.
Never heard of the "dodge" trick... I'm guessing it's right as they lunge at you, turn around and run a few feet?

Actually now that I'm thinking about it, wasn't there a dodge trick you got from upgrading character abilities?  I can't remember.

Videos I made are on youtube. Type Estryarkk (two "k") in the search field. By the way, don't get inspired by Shin's run. It's not a speedrun...and it's bad.

Characters don't have any dodge abilities...they have counter attack. The animation takes more time than doing this dodge trick.

In my opinion, the second fight with Ayame is based on how many hits you need to kill her...not by the power of you hits. Test it, I tried shock shells, gravity shells, power shots...it doesn't save time im pretty sure of it. The first fight you'll need firepower...look my Ayame video in youtube...3 hit with power lvl 4.

Just read the whole thread.
Yeah, 2.5 hours sounds about right. Good luck with it.

You should have a look at StrangenessDSS's notes too, in the old topic. http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=consoles_newer;action=display;num=1122864157;start=
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Hi, new here.  Didn't get to read all the posts but I'm just posting this really quickly.  When going up stairs as Kevin, start by turning around (B), run (A) and then press B again to backflip your way up.  Way faster than going forward the whole time.
Yeah other charcaters have similar tricks.. if you do that with Con he'll roll up the stairs, etc.

We talked about that earlier in this topic, and that's how the dodge trick works.

All the reversal moves vary for each character, and it's useful for all of them to travel up and down stairs, but Dan and Con are only ones who can dodge the Smiles. Everyone else is either too slow or stop for too long before actually moving in the opposite direction. On top of that, you can't cancel the reversals, either -_-

Con can be hard to use because of the relatively long distance he travels when he reverses, especially in tight places where the junctions are too close.

I think Kevin would've been perfect to use, next to Con, because of his perfect aim and invisibility if his reversal move wasn't so long and he didn't stop.

Anyway, how's your run, DeweyIsOverrated?
Estryark: did you upload your routes and strategies anywhere else?
I don't have my ftp anymore, if you want ill send to you by an e-mail
The run is on pause since I got REALLY (I mean extremely heavily) involved in DKJB instead.  I was kind of wavering b/w the two for a week, then decided on DKJB.  And call me Dewey.
Estryark: That'd be great, thanks. I'll PM you.

I've been practicing Target 00 this week and I've made a few route tweaks:

1. In the hallway outside the Restroom I dodge the first Smile, turn around, and then super speed past the others. It sounds and looks slower, but it's actually 2 seconds faster.

2. I don't kill the second Camellia Smile, because the you get more than enough thin blood from the first one and the red/blue Micro Smile (I think this is what Estryark was going to do if he didn't miss the Micro). This leads to the third tweak.

3. I super speed after entering the hallway with the second Camellia Smile, so I can reach the barrier quicker.

There's two routes I'm going to test, actually. They revolve around killing only two Smiles for thin blood, because you get more than enough to last the whole segment.

The first route is killing both Camellia Smiles, and ignoring the blue/red Micro, so I can super speed straight through the washing room, get the Fire Ring, and unlock the door at the end. Con's super speed time limit counts down regardless of what is happening (loading, cutscenes, etc...), and it'll run out just before I change into Coyote.

The second route is ignoring the second Camellia Smile, but killing the said Micro. I'll probably go with the second route becuase I can super speed more often as Con Smith.

I'm not blindly super speeding everywhere, because I've tested and found it does save time.

I'm still scratching my head about wether I should drop off all my thick blood at the last Harman Room before the end of each segment so get Critical Lock-on in time for the longer segments. Hmm...
