I know, this is only available on Xbox One atm, so not many people will have the game, but it's a lot of fun and I love it, so I started to test some stuff out.
This ia a "simple" 2D puzzle/platformer with interesting mechanics, and I'd really like to know if anyone else thought to speedrun it like me.

I'm just starting to learn the first levels, but if you played through all of them like I did, you already know how hard it gets later on.

Anyone else interested in the game?

I would definitely love to see a speedrun of this. Picked this up a few weeks ago, really enjoyed it, but never got round to finishing it. Might put some time into learning the game. Just grinded one level and got to 2nd on the LB - 0.05 off the top spot!

It will be insanely difficult to get a clean full game run, I was about an hour into a level and was still switching at the wrong times! - Might try and get the first chapter down and see where I go from there.

Will you be collecting all the pick-ups in your run or going for any%?

Looking forward to seeing progress in this game!

I'm starting with any%. It's really hard to be consistent in a game like this, and every single error makes you lose a lot of time because the game doesn't reset the enemies position on respawn.
I can do a clean first world run most of the time, but after that is a nightmare Cheesy
Yeah, I hear ya, haha! Getting a solid any% is still gonna be mind-bendingly difficult.

I found a way too skip the 12 second cut scene on the first boss, it also stops the boss from chasing you for the first phase, which is nice. Be warned though, it spawns right behind you when you get to the gravity switch!
The trigger for the cutscene is at the beginning of the beam of light, but the checkpoint trigger is before that on the first rock pillar before the light. So run to the pillar then run backwards to your death. The spawn point is ahead of the trigger for the cutscene. This saves just under 10 seconds.

I think this is the only skip of this nature in the game?
Hey a bit late but I´m just getting started with Kalimba (only need a gold totem on the last boss) and really want to run it.
Are you still interested in it? I´m completely new to this website and really could use some help for getting into speedrunning ect.
Would be much appreciated.
PS. I´m also probably gonna do coop runs for this which are gonna be a pain Tongue
So no one has posted in this forum for ages...

I think Kalimba would be an interesting game to run...

Any% - start to finish with the least amount of deaths.
APU% (All Pick Ups) - must have all 70 Pick Ups per level. Deaths are fine.
100% = all gold totems? No deaths all Pick Ups  per level.

Any% seems sort of boring to me.  Its not that hard to die when you don't have to worry about getting pick ups.  The pick ups also make you have to rethink your path on the level.  Without pickups its basically push left, die as little as possible, start next level.  100% would easily be the most impressive.  Some levels are easy to gold while others are mind numbing.

Honestly this game is rather straight forward when it comes to running... which is why it most likely isn't being done. That and the fact that it isn't a super popular game.  However I'm going to do it anyway.  I am thinking starting an all pick ups run.

I'm thinking three splits per area.
Under 1-4, Under 5-7, Under Boss
Middle 1-4, Middle 5-7, Middle Boss
Upper 1-4, Upper 5-7, Upper Boss

I will probably start after the Holidays are over.  If anyone still checks this board and has any feedback or suggestions I am open to hear it.
Hi, I'm new to this entire speedrun stuff and thought about starting with a relativly straight forward game like Undertale Pascifist Run or Kalimba(dunno whether the Steam version is any different from the Xbox Version). If anyone has some advice for me i'd like to hear it, it would be a good start knowing how long a run takes Tongue
Anyway, I'm here to be contacted so feel free and write to me if anyone's still here.

Honestly, speed runs are what ever you want to make it.  Pick a game and just try to beat your times. Smiley I still haven't started kalimba so I can't give you a general idea of times.  No matter what game you choose just remember to have fun.

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask and I'm sure someone will answer.
Actually I have a question: I just can't figure out how to reset the game to the beginning, pls help.
Btw I have the Steam version if that's a needed Information.
So some updates.... as of right now we are getting the kalimba scene started.  I have done some official runs and some races against another speed runner. Hopefully we will have a speedrun.com page soon where we can share tips tricks and submit runs etc.

The real issue so far has been the main one... how to get a new game file.  We have contacted the Devs at Press Play to see what their take on it is.  Here is what we know so far.

XBox one - You can create a second account for speed running the game.  Every time you are done you can easily delete the game data by going into "manage game" and selecting the user and deleting that specific users kalimba data.  Next time you enter it is if that user has never played the game.

Steam - However, Steam is a much more complitcated beast.  For one you can not just create a new user to play the game under.  This means if your Kalimba data is important to you (golds, IL times, etc) then you are going to have to copy and save that data. Then there is a specific data file in steam that must be deleted.  Plus I believe you have to turn off the cloud syncing ability with Kalimba.  Once I know more I will give you more info about it.  Needless to say, it is not a super quick and simple task to my understanding.  Which is why we contacted the Devs.

Maybe someday we will get super lucky and the devs will add a quick way to load a new game.  Until that day we will have to get by with what we got.

Hope to see you all running the game soon!
So we are waiting on speedrun.com to approve Kalimba as a game ... shouldn't take that long.  We have also started a Kalimba Discord.
https://discord.gg/0nIyh6pql6oRihsL  if you are actually interested in running this game come introduce yourself in the discord! I don't think I will be posting anymore on this thread. Smiley Hopefully see you there!

Hey, guys!

You won't believe how glad I am I found a thread about Kalimba. Didn't manage to play it yet but I have pick it up and it's waiting for me at home. I'm writing from the office so I'll make this quick. I'm interested in running the game. I love smart platformers but I've only run Minecraft so far (Any%, Set Seed, Glitchless - if anybody was curious). I have watched DevilSquirrel's Any% run, as well as the other chapters and I've noticed a couple of spots where you can optimize the run and save a couple of seconds.

I'm curious to see if anybody finds a skip, a slight glitchy way of moving faster, or maybe even an out of bounds window.
I really want to try my best at running this game but I'm going to need a lot of help from you guys.

Hope to see a couple of people hyped up for routing and running this awesome platformer.
Have a nice day!
Hey everyone,  I decided to come back here and see if anyone had left any new messages.  I also bring exciting news.  DevilSquirrel will be running Kalimba at AGDQ this January!  I will be on the couch cheering him on.  Stop in and watch the stream and cheer him on!

and hello Crimsonify!  Did you ever start running Kalimba?  if so you should join the discord channel.  If you are still interested you could always come watch devil or I run on Twitch.  Twitch.tv/SonicScrewdrivr or Twitch.tv/DevilSquirrel .  Hope to see you all there.

You can totally get Out Of Bounds on SpikeyBrow!  Here is a video of the TAS but it can also be done RTA.

This saves about 20 seconds.
