I've not been able to find anything related to this game (in terms of speedrunning) anywhere so I've decided to go ahead and make a thread for this game.

Kairo is an indie adventure game, developed and published by Locked Door Puzzle, Richard Perrin's independent studio. Kairo is set in world of minimalist abstract architecture which the player must explore to solve the puzzle contained within. Gameplay is in the form of first person perspective and has no additional controls beyond the ability to look around and navigate the environment. Interaction comes in the form of pushing objects, standing on switches or the environment reacting to player movement. (Website for Kairo: http://kairo.lockeddoorpuzzle.com/)

I've done just a few runs of this game, purely optimizing the game (doing all the puzzles as quickly as possible) and managed to get it down to a time of 27:11 so far. (http://www.twitch.tv/bl00d_thunder/c/2686501)
-Directly after I got this run, I managed to find a small skip that should save about 15-20 seconds done 1st time. I'm calling it "The Throne Skip" :3

I'm going to pick up this game pretty soon. Right now I'm stuck with running Jedi Knight 2, but this is something I'd love to learn.
I've started practicing this game. I was wondering if anyone had done a 100% for the game yet.

Downloading this game right now, looks like it should be good to run. I'll probably play through the game once normally tonight, and then spend all tomorrow optimizing.
@scorshua3 I've thought about a 100% category but haven't had time to really try it out yet. I would assume it would just consist of picking up all the runes?

Glad to see more people taking an interest in this game, I can't wait to see what everyone can do with this game. I'm pretty sure that my route is fairly optimized in terms of getting around to all the puzzles but I could be wrong, and any kind of skip would be amazing. Looking forward to all the progress!
Found another tiny skip, should save 5-ish seconds if done correctly on first try.

Not sure why I was logged out there, whoops.

Very cool find, it seems like these slopped surfaces are a good way to get places you're not supposed to as that's why the Throne Skip is possible as well. I'll have to give this a try Smiley

Edit: I'm going back through and looking for some optimization and tricks. Already found 2 new short time savers in the 1st intersection :D!
Edit2: Alright, make that 4 timesavers :p

Edit3: I've done some testing with the trick that Kintsukuroi found and interesting enough i was able to make it all the way to the top of the map as well as too both the far left and far right sides. There seems to be nothing behind the wall. The only thing in this map is the giant wall and the 2 doors. Also to note, done optimally this saves roughly 5 seconds!

Ok, I've found something that could potentially save quiet a bit of time. While looking through the controls to see what all there was I found a "reset room" key. basically this will take you back to the entrance of whatever room you're currently in, but here's the interesting thing. If you've completed the puzzle in that room and reset the room, you go back to the entrance and it's still counted as having completed the puzzle. I'm currently going back through all the puzzles that don't have a multiple rooms in a row and seeing if it'll save time :D.

Edit: Ok, I'm testing this on pretty much every room now. Just started randomly pressing it in some rooms that don't have puzzles and ended up at the other door :D.

Yes, it does save time. I've been doing that throughout my first run, and it's useful for when you need to backtrack through a room. Used in every single puzzle room, I'd estimate it saves at least 3 minutes total.

I've found that since the game allows you to have 2 sets of controls active at a time, it's very helpful to set up a console controller for the Alternate controls. It allows for very easy execution of the Elevator Skip without going into options and inverting A and D. I'd imagine it helps with the Throne Skip as well, although for some reason I'm not consistent at all with that even on keyboard/mouse.

I think i've found a pretty good method for getting the Elevator Skip without changing the keys. Looks like you also have a chance of clipping through the corner and then just falling straight down :/. I practiced the Throne Skip for a bit before streaming and it seems to be a pretty precise trick. you have to hit the sloped wall in just the right way to get a boost up to the ledge. I've yet to find a somewhat consist method of getting it.

Anyways after some serious attempts I managed to get a 23:19! Sub 23 is definitely possible, especially with a Throne Skip. I'll highlight it and post it whenever twitch stops acting up :p

Found a small exploit, no current uses for it but there's probably some place in the game where it may be helpful.

Hmm, I would imagine that's the same reason you get boosted so far upwards for the Elevator skip. The edges of corners just boost you away from the surface to prevent you from clipping through and ending up oob. I can't think of a place where this would be really beneficial at the moment but I'll try looking through the game again at some point.

there's a way to get a "super jump" on the intersection 2 elevator (the one with the golf ball over it before you complete all of the puzzles). I think It follows the same logic as the jump that Kintsukuroi found with the seams and what not. I've only had this happen to me a few times but I think that when you jump off of the black platform in the middle with the statue on it onto the seam, that it will send you soaring. Also on the purple elevator after the third intersection(the one with all of the science pictures) you can walk off of the platform and get teleported to the green control room; although, I'm not sure if that would help save any time.

Edit: the elevator jump that I talked about so far has only worked for me while I was going down.
lad musician
Yeah I think that that's just the way Kairo's physics work, like Blood Thunder said, it's just a way to prevent players from clipping through level geometry. Currently the Throne and Elevator Skips are the only places that the physics can be exploited in this way. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few more skips of the same nature.
Then saying that, Kintsukuroi, it makes me wonder if there are any ways to jump to the top of the castle in the grey city.

Also, I know there is a way to reset the room you're in, but is there a way to reset puzzles in rooms so that you can practice them again and not have to restart?
lad musician
What would be the benefit of that?

No, there isn't. Although you can reset room just before getting the solve and be able to do it again.

That room is just based on a timer so after so long you go to the green control room, walking off has no effect on timing :3

Found something that might save just a second or so. Using the seam trick like I showed in the previous video, you can land on the floating pyramid and jump up to the second floor. Done optimally this is faster than taking the stairs.

I DID T!!! I still need some more practice though.
Also in your video you said that you have to do it on the seems, but I've been doing it where there aren't the seems though.

the benefit would be to see if it would activite the credits or not. Although I doubt it would it would still be nice to know.
I meant these a while ago but I've improved the any% record and did a fairly solid run of 100%.

Any% (22:19) - http://www.twitch.tv/bl00d_thunder/c/2816333
100% (36:25) - http://www.twitch.tv/bl00d_thunder/c/2820711
Got a new world record a couple of days ago [21:43]. Still improveable ofc

I found a new glitch on the ball level, if you start pushing the ball before it stops after hitting the ground you are able to push it in the same speed as running/walking.

Glad to see this game get a bit more attention, I'll have to watch this sometime over the weekend and see the new glitch :3. I may even have to pick the game back up.
Also, here's a video of me practicing the ball glitch. It shows some successful tries Smiley
