Hey Skelekat.

So there are two categories at the moment, any% and allmissions%. The reason for the two categories is that we believe the fastest way to get any% is to just complete the agency missions, and spend the rest of the time going place to place blowing up things for a few hours. By doing all missions instead, the run is a lot more exciting.

There are 65 missions in total. Routing for this game mainly consists of minimising the distance between the missions. This is tricky as missions start and end at different points. Also there are prerequisites to many of the missions that must be fulfilled. The route I have posted was determined by using an algorithm, however it only took into account raw distance(not transportation method) so there could be improvements.

Chaos is extremely important during this run. You get chaos by blowing up things and completing missions. Missions have chaos requirements, and the game is designed so that even if you finish all of the missions in the game, you will still be 40,000 chaos short on the prerequisite of the final two agency missions. This means an important part of the run is destroying objects during missions and the run in such a way that it doesn't make your run slower(ie. shooting down fuel tanks while travelling to the next mission).

Transportation is another complicated factor. There are various modes of transportation - grappling hook, helicopter, car, jet and extraction. The method of transport depends on what is between you and your next mission. If there is a relatively straight road, car/bike is faster than the grappling hook and helicopter. Grappling hook and helicopter are relatively the same speed, and are good when you have to cross through a lot of tough terrain(forests, hills, buildings). Jets are best over longer distances(2-3km+). You can have jets delivered to your location using the black market. It can be difficult to find flat land to take off on though. Extraction is the best method of transport and can be done by calling the black market. You can not have any heat on you(wanted level) to use it. It will drop you off to a location of your choosing that you have discovered(ie. village, dock, military base etc), so it is only useful when the mission you are going to is close to a place you have already discovered.

There is also an ability to upgrade your weapons and vehicles. We haven't explored this too much, I am planning on investigating today.

I think that is a decent overview. It is a fun game, but I am finding you need to be precise due to the physics at play in order to be fast.
Thanks very much! I think I will look further into the game, it sounds like a pretty interesting speedgame. I'll post here if I find anything interesting while playing around with it. I did go through a bit of the route you had listed, and I think there are a couple of spots already that might be better if the order was switched, but I haven't had much time to look into it.

Great. Smiley

Just be careful when changing the route. I have seen some missions that were closer than the suggested mission, however the route is best over the whole run. So you may see that travelling a longer distance to one mission sets up the next few to be shorter, or unlocks other faction missions that are closer.

I will be rerunning the algorithm tonight for a lot longer to see if there is a better solution.
Here is the rerun from my algorithm. It reduced the total distance by another 4000 meters. There seems to only be minor changes to the actual routing by the algorithm, so it is pretty similar to my previous.

So I am beginning some proper practice for this game now. I'll be writing up notes here for each mission as I practice.

Welcome to Panau

Fairly straightforwards. When falling, get parachute open as quickly as possible. After the falling scene when you are on foot, you want to use your melee attack to take out the first guard. Then grab the memory card. For the group of two guards after that, grapple down infront of them and take them out with your melee weapon. When you get in the AA gun, take down the heli, then take down the radar, that spherical thing and broadcast tower before heading to the next memory card(you have this time, so chaos for free). Before you latch onto this heli, pick up the SMG, it will come in handy.

Drop off the heli as soon as you get close to the ground. Grapple to the bridge to pick up the final memory card. Then head straight for the mounted gun. Melee the guy in there and take the gun, head up the ramp and blow up both SAMS. Stay on the left side of the ramp so you don't get run over. Focus on destroying all the objects around you to get the most chaos you can, be quick though. As soon as you have done that, grapple up to the highest building on the left hand side so you can grapple to the chopper more quickly.

Casino Bust
Grapple to the demo officer ASAP and kill him by shooting him in the head with the SMG. Then grapple climb up the building. Kill the guards and disarm the bombs. The first bomb, spend the time picking up the assault rifle. Then disarm the second, pick up the second assault rifle and shoot down the heli. Right after you shoot it down, you need to hop on the ledge and very quickly grapple inside the bridge. This will save time.

For the next section, just stay on the top of the car and get your assault rifle out. There is a water tower on the right. Take it out with the assault rifle, then quickly turn to the left to take out two or more of the fuel tanks. Spend the rest of the time getting rid of the cars following you. Do this by waiting for them to gain speed, then grappling them to the ground so that they fly off bridges/cliffs. Near the end there is a water tank on the right you should shoot down as well. Don't grapple hook the final car as they will blow up the fuel station.

Rocket Science

Grapple there and grab some more SMG ammo before you start the mission. This is a stronghold mission, so you want to avoid delaying the technician, so get ahead and destroy all the enemies. If you get there fast, you can kill the first 5 as they spawn next to the fuel tanks. After that, shoot and destroy both fuel tanks, then quickly continue on. Grapple over the bridge and set yourself up to open the gate. Then hop on the AA gun and shoot two more fuel tanks on your left. Shoot down the heli quickly. Then grapple ahead.

I believe there is a mounted gun you must take out. Clear that area, then pick up the mounted gun. Shoot down the three big fuel spheres. While walking up the ramp, take out the SAM. You will be slow, but I don't think it adds much delay. Now for the final group of enemies, you want to get to the left, you can keep your distance. Take out the mounted gun, then take out the rest as they spawn(you will see them in the distance). Then just use the mounted gun to take out the rest of the enemies.

Hop in the helicopter as soon as you finish and head to the next mission.

Ups and Downs

Hop on the bike and head to the military base. Launch off the bike at the base and get as far down the silo with one grapple as you can. Get to the bottom floor, kill all units there. Kill the one shotgun guy on the level above near the stairs, then disarm the bomb. Quickly grapple out of there(should be able to do it in two grapples).

Take down the helicopter. Quickly find a close, flat patch of ground. Call the black market and buy a jet(perl silverbolt). Use it to get to the next mission.

Free Trade

Basically you just want to be infront of your technician here. Just keep moving forwards and killing troops with your SMG. Grapple hook the sniper off of the tower. Watch out for the group of enemies after the sniper, there are barrels next to them. But those barrels won't kill one of those enemies and he may get up after you leave. Get the mounted gun near the end and use it to take out the enemies at the final position. Then defend with the mounted gun.

Other notes during this run

I had a couple of weird glitches. One glitch was right at the start of the game before the cutscene. I managed to start the game in map view, with an error message saying "missing localisation". When I exited out of map view, I had the helicopter cursor while the cutscene was going and I could look around. The sound in the cutscene desynced with what happened and I ended up losing ~10 seconds. Was very odd.

Also it is possible to skip cutscenes by force quitting the game, then loading an autosave. I don't think that will be allowed though, someone should confirm.

Another glitch that happened was before the Casino Bust mission. I was spamming enter to skip cutscenes. I managed to completely skip the third(it didn't show, just a black screen), and when the mission started I had got +1000 chaos from destroying a statue somehow. Was very odd, not sure how to replicate.

A final note, the Perl Silverbolt seems to be the best jet for transportation. So whenever you can, upgrade it with vehicle parts as it will increase its top speed.
Personally I think alt+f4 should be allowed to skip cutscenes, I'm fairly certain there is lots of other games that either close the game or reset the system in order to skip things. I don't really see a reason to not do it.

That should be allowed if you time the run as RTA(Real Time Attack). Just keep the timer running even when you're out of the game.
Yah that is true, other games do it so it should be fine to do it. Will definitely save time on the first cutscene, not sure on the others.

In the Dark Souls community it's also accepted to quit and reload, though it's in-game time that is taken into account.
Hmm well I am actually trying to retest the glitch and it may not be possible as I first thought. I think last time I had reset before the first part ended, and then when the cutscene started again I quit out and it loaded the autosave from before.

May be wrong, but trying to quit out during the cutscene doesn't seem to work now.

Here are the next five missions.

Red of the Blue One
Pretty simple mission, just use your grapple to get from building to building as efficiently as possible, take out the troops and disarm the bomb. Going to the last drug location, you want to grapple hook around the large sky scraper infront of you, and use the momentum to get to the top of the one you need to get to.

After you finish this mission, go to the flat top of the sky scraper you are on and order a jet. I pulled off a trick accidentally here. There was a water tank just below the flat surface. As I took off the jet clipped the water tank and blew it up, so that is 500 free chaos which will come in handy.

Paparazzi Pursuit

Straight away, grab the ammo near by. If you miss it, do not wait to get it. Hop straight on your bike and head straight for the paparazzi. If you are fast, you will get there right as he takes off. Left-alt to hijack his bike, then immediately get off and kill him(if you are lucky he will already be mostly dead due to the hijacking). Take his photos and grapple hook to the delivery location. I think grappling is best here as it allows you to cut through sections you would otherwise go around on the bike.

The next mission you can extract to, so use an extraction.

Power Surge

Nothing too complex here, just a stronghold mission. As always, kill all the enemies as fast as possible, and get to the gate controls before they ask you to open them. Try to blow up two fuel tanks before or just after you open the gate with your assault rifle. Use your grappling hook to pull down the rocket launcher guy. Pick up his rocket launcher and use it to destroy the other two fuel tanks and a SAM behind you. Pick your assault rifle back up and quickly kill the enemies ahead before your team mates catch up.

When you get to the last point, grab the MG like always. Destroy the two fuel tanks infront, and the generators behind. Destroy all enemies, pretty easy with the MG.

You can either use the helicopter or a jet to get to the next location. I have been using the helicopter as I can't find a reliable place close by to take off with the jet. If someone finds a way to take off from there let me know.

EDIT: Here is a reliable place to take off with the jet. Just fly straight forward, full throttle, holding down. It is tight but not hard to make.

Bridging New Contacts

As soon as the mission starts, hop on a bike and head towards the bridge. Gather as much speed as you can. Aim your bike at the enemies car, and jump off just before it reaches. The goal is to have the bike explode and take out some of the enemies. Then hop in the yellow truck with the operative. Be careful in this mission as the physics can get the better of you. There is a road block at the end of the bridge. May just be best to slow down to get past, because the physics does crazy things otherwise. Once I mounted one of those wooden blocks and my car went up at a 90 degree angle.

Once you get past all of that, head to the airport and to the drop off zone. Take the airplane and take off on the run way. Don't click the left or right keys while you are boosting as otherwise this plane will do loops. Head towards the next mission.

Siphoning Gas

Take the car near by to the first point. Time is of the essence in this mission, you want to kill all/most of the troops and disarm the bomb quickly, otherwise backup will arrive and waste your time. After the first one, use a grappling hook to get to the next couple. At the final one, after I disarmed the bomb I quickly hopped on the AA gun and tried to take out the 12 fuel tanks + broadcast tower. I am reconsidering this, however it is a convenient way to get chaos. If there is a surplus of chaos in the future missions, may throw that part out as it does waste time.

Extra Findings

I found that after "The Red or the Blue One" I could call the black market before the mission was finished. Once I had my jet delivered the mission completed, which allowed me to save time by not waiting for the dialouge after you finish the goals. This can probably be done with other missions, so as soon as you complete the goal, call the black market. Don't wait for the mission to finish.

It looks like hitting Tom during the temple section of the White Tiger mission causes him to run to the next group of enemies instead of walking, so that should save some time there.

EDIT: by the way, you have the mission 'smugglers do run' set as having 390000 required chaos, but I'm able to access it with much less than that. Did you just enter the number in wrong?
I watched MopeyJoe's run and it occured to me that when he used the pelt silverbolt it would probably be faster to just jump out and grapple the ground rather than parachuting out. And I think this technique would be faster for getting up the PBC building

Very interesting that you can hit Tom to make him go faster, because he is so damn slow. Tongue There is a good chance "Smugglers do run" was entered incorrectly. It was the only mission that didn't have chaos requirements in the wiki, so I made a guess. If you could find out the required chaos I'll rerun the simulation and see if it changes anything.

The silverbolt strat seems like a better idea, I will try it, because parachuting is really slow. I have a feeling grappling up the building is faster if you can get really good grapples, we will have to compare the speed of both though.
I have found an interesting skip.

The first bomb location in "The Red of the Blue One". If you go into the undercover area, grapple and hang off the roof, then fall, you will almost go through the floor and will be stuck in the ground. Haven't been able to do anything else, tried a few things. But possibility that we could do something to clip out of the level. Not sure if it will be useful, the floor definitely seems glitched though.
yeah, I tried that clip out and it definitely works. I'll do some testing with it to see if I can get anything interesting to happen.

I did notice though that dying while outside of a mission causes you to respawn at the nearest stronghold, would that be useful to speed up any transportation?

OK, I found a spot that would possibly help us beat the 'Mile High Club' mission a bit faster, I'll put the video here once it uploads

EDIT: ok, here's the video:

EDIT 2: turns out we cant reach the bomb from OOB, so this wont work. I'll keep looking for other areas though

I was actually referring to the specific technique I used not grappling in general, you can see it explained in this video
That is a really nice clip! There is another well known clip near the big Panay head in the agency mission. I found the best way to get out of the clip/clip further in was to spam my grapple/parachute, hoping that when going to the parachute I would launch through the boundaries.

I understand the technique a lot better as well, thanks for the video. That will definitely be useful, you are right. I am not sure about the vertical buildings though, it could work but I think it works well on cliffs as the surface is slanted, as whenever you grapple you move forwards. I think maybe we should test the general grapple method against this trick and see which is fastest.

We will need to start looking out for appropriate locations where dying and respawning is faster than travelling to a mission. I think this will be most useful early on, but as the game progresses you will gain less distance by doing this(taking control of more, closer areas). Stranded could be a great mission to try this though, as it is just so distant from everything. I can't remember if extraction is more effective though.
Actually if there is a place where it is faster to die, we can take advantage of something else. Saving/loading achieves the same effect as dying. There is a glitch where if you hop in a turret with a machine gun in your inventory, then save and load again, you will be carrying the turret from the vehicle. When you drop it, your machine gun has 500 ammo until you die, which could be useful later on.
Found another clip location. I really want to clip through the bottom of the game to see what happens, but it seems the floor is very solid.

Fry me to the Moon

As soon as the mission starts, hop on the jeep and head towards Cape Carnival along the roads. May be faster getting jet, someone will have to try. Hop out of the jeep at the entrance, and grapple jump up to the helicopter right infront. Hop in the helicopter, there are 3 SAMS near you to take out. One right above you, one slightly to the left and one to the left of that one. Once you take out all three, destroy the second helicopter near the last SAM(to stop it from taking off and wasting you time). Then head to the three satellites and shoot them down with the helicopter.

Once you take out the third, immediately head towards the aircraft hanger in the center. Get out of the helicopter, get inside as the sliding door opens, hop in the jet and take off. Line up your jet with the final satellite and start shooting rockets/machine gun from a distance. It may not look like it is doing any damage, but if you shoot early the rockets will all arrive before it takes off far and blow it up.

Stay in the jet and head towards the next mission, it is quite a distance away. Just head directly to it. As you are approaching near the end of the white mountains(about 4km away), turn slightly to the left and line up a military base. You can gather quite a bit of chaos shooting the large fuel tanks as you go overhead.

Pirate Broadcast

I only just tried a new strat, didn't get gold but I think it was due to a stuff up during the mission. I'll list this strat though as I think it is the fastest.

As soon as the mission starts, head to the beach just next to it, spawn a jet and take off towards the large radio towers. Go straight to the top and jump off onto one of the satellites. Don't worry too much about the enemies, just take out any in firing range of the control, then hack it and move onto the next. Make use of the grapple jump to assist. One of the platforms has three sentry turrets, take them out straight away as they can easily kill you.

After the final platform is done, there is a big vertical pillar. Grapple jump up it twice only, then just aim your grapple up until you get near the top. After this, aim for the edge of a circular platform(with metal netting), then grapple onto the pillars with the three white/red hexagons on it. This provides a good place to grapple into the big radio dish at the top. Quickly place the bomb in the two locations, then jump down to the far bottom edge that the radio dish is on. Spawn another jet on that edge. The black market will cancel the dialogue and skip right to the 10 second countdown. Hop in the jet and take off, heading to the next location.

When you are close to the next location, line the jet to crash into the gas station there for additional chaos.

Political Debate

As soon as the mission starts, hop on the bike and head off the ramp. Jump off a couple of seconds after launching, then parachute open and hold down, aiming for the limo. Grapple onto the limo, kill the passenger and throw out the driver. This is a prime area of RNG. If you have a police car or bike after you, take them out before you start driving.

The most optimal line is down the hills, but until we find a safe line down each hill this isn't practical, so just take the long road. The RNG here is whether you get a police car, as they will ram into you as you are turning those corners, sending you down the hill and possibly getting stuck, causing a restart. If you do get one, you may want to consider getting rid of it and continuing on.

After you get down the hill, just slow down a little before each police blockade. Be extremely careful when the road transitions onto the dirt road, as dirt physics + limo physics is a recipe for disaster, especially if you have the police cars after you. Make sure they don't knock you off, and drive at 80% speed.

When you get to the drop off point, hop in the car near by and head east. Just before the trees parachute out, then grapple to the next mission.

Taming the Beast

Hop on the bike near by and follow the road, merging onto the highway. Keep going until you reach a hill, where it is faster to jump off your bike and grapple down the hill rather than driving around. Get straight into the military base and into the tank. I use this as an opportunity to get some chaos. I turn right, take down the radio tower, water tower and two fuel tanks. Then turn left, take out another radio tower and a couple more fuel tanks, then turn right and go out of the intended exit.

You want to go up the dirt road, onto the main road, and go down the hill onto the highway before the bridge. Full speed down the high way. When you approach a blockade of cars, fire three shots in advance to take all of them out. When you get to the drop off area, destroy the fuel station as you approach before giving away your tank.

Hop out and quickly head towards the beach. Spawn a jet on the beach, take off and land at the next mission.

Nothing to Declare

You have to be quick here. If you fail this quick strat, you are best to restart the mission than to try to finish it normally.

As soon as the mission starts, start grappling in a straight line for the "traitor". Be as fast as possible, and you should be able to get there just as he is lifting off. Accurately grapple onto the helicopter, throw the traitor out and he will die. Head immediately straight forward as the next mission is just a few hundred metres away.
So what's the stance on DLC items? Theres a few items from DLC's that would probably save time, but should we use them?

I reckon allow them for now. Once we start getting some runs going, we can reassess whether they should be included or not.
The game seems to be crashing when I grapple onto the plane in Airport Troubles. I haven't had this happen before, not too sure why. Could be Windows 8, but seems odd if that is the case. Does anyone else have this problem?
