MGS for PS1 forever.
Not to get off on a rant and I in no way, shape or form want to insite another flamewar, but I have a bone to pick with "tool-assisted" runs. I, personally, love them. Call them what you want, 'cheated', 'tool-assisted', 'superplay', 'time-attack' or even 'emu-rape' if you want to...emu-rape being the one I think is the funniest to call them.
I also have nothing against speedruns. I prefer speedruns to 'tool-assisted', but I like watching them both. Now, what I don't like is that the 'tool-assisted' runs are voted for their 'entertainment' value. Basically, a person can beat Super Mario 1 in like 4 mins flat (not possible, but work with me here) and because it's not entertaining enough they don't put it up on the site.
I have nothing against the 'tool-assisted' or speedruns, but what I am against is the voting system. I don't know why they have that. It might be because there are so many submissions that it would be too much work to accept all of them and convert them into avis, etc. If SDA had a voting system my Max Payne fugitive runs probably wouldn't have gotten put up. Some were better than others, but for the most part each level could've been done a lot faster. I know Tim thought that and that's one of the reasons why I went ahead and did the whole game on NYM. I also went through each chapter much, much faster.
Besides, entertainment value is all relative. I'm sure some people will fall asleep while watching the FF 3/6 run...but I won't be. I'm sure lots of people love watching Resident Evil runs. I'd rather watch Mario or Zelda.
In the end, the 'tool-assisted' site keeps the fastest times and discards the slower ones, so wouldn't a faster time be good enough for submission instead of an incredibly ridiculous voting system for entertainment value? I would think so, but it's not up to me.
I feel better now.
