My feelings on The Demon Rush
Yes, I know rom is organizing this event, but we both went over the rules.
Playing the game:
-Be sure you're ready to stream (program running, settings up) during the previous run. We prefer you have it all ready 30 minutes before, but at worst 15 minutes before your run starts. If the run before yours is incredibly short, then set up during the run before that one. If you are running multiple games in a row, this means have all of your systems out that you will need well in advance so you can just plug and play.
-When the run before yours is going, make sure to do a test stream on your regular UStream account. Link the channel in the participants' IRC (#jrdq on irc.speeddemosarchive.com) and ask people there to verify that your stream is good to go and of acceptable quality. After that is confirmed, log out and be prepared to log into the JRDQ game stream account with the same settings immediately after that stream goes off air.
-If you want people to commentate with you, then be sure to setup the skype call BEFORE you go online. Setting up the skype call after your stream is up wastes time and looks bad on our end. If one of the commentators for your run is in the current game's stream in some way, still add them to the Skype group so they can join the call afterward.
-Turn off all your Skype noises for this weekend. Please, just do it. Pay attention to your Skype windows more closely if you rely on those noises to let you know when something's up.
-When it comes to donation challenges, be careful about which ones to take. You don't want to go past the estimate if possible. We could take almost as many as we wanted during AGDQ because even if we ran late, we knew (almost) everyone would still be there. If we start running too late here, that can start screwing people's schedules.
-Conversely, if we're running way ahead of schedule (hahahaha), feel free to take donation challenges that take up a bit of time, because running ahead of schedule is just as bad as running behind schedule (if not worse). In the case of Lag.Com, cyghfer, and Parax, we are already aware of what you can do/play if you beat your estimate by a ton and we aren't behind, but just make sure you have everything set up in advance for a quick switch. That goes for everyone, actually.
-Always make sure you are in the participants' IRC during the marathon. That is how we can quickly communicate and make transitions go smoothly. Also, if there is a technical problem, someone in the skype call can keep an eye on the chat and let them know if someone says there's an issue (usually with audio, not with video since someone in the skype call could see it anyway even if their stream is muted). If you're using XSplit and have broken audio, usually muting and then unmuting the stereo mix immediately fixes this.
Commentators/Commentary stream:
-Donation trackers will be using the commentary stream to show updates on bids and such. This will be its purpose for the majority of runs.
-People using webcams for runs that need the commentary stream (Metroid Prime race comes to mind) should set everything up beforehand, just like the game streams. However, because quality for these cams isn't as picky, and you might be in a call for the game beforehand, you don't necessarily need to set up a test stream on your usual channel.
-This should be common sense, but runner has first priority for talking, then main commentator, then everyone else.
-Follow the same guidelines for setting up Skype calls as listed above in the game stream guidelines.
-You can swear a bit, but don't swear too much in the daytime. We are trying to keep this PG-13. During late night hours, I guess you can make it R-rated Obikashi. Same goes for Jiano, Sicko, Sig, Jape, cyghfer, etc. and whoever else is running a game late at night/really early morning that asked me about censoring themselves. Don't worry about it, guys. :p
