Aight, practice helped me out on a few new techniques. I got a 37:01 on White Robe any%.
I almost fell off the pillar on the bridge in Sandfalls again, which cost me about 5sec.
I missed my second boost in Vertical Temple, which cost me about 30sec.
Other than that it went pretty smoothly.

edit: actually lost 42 seconds with the failed boost.
Reverse Death Valley Bomb
I managed to catch the very end of the snow section and it looked like you were moving abnormally fast (although, whenever I watch people playing games I run I'm always like "how are they moving so fast!?".) have you found a 'fast disc speed'-esque feature for Journey or am I just crazy. (Yes, I know you were using white cloak and can bunny hop :P)

heh, it's simple really. I used two techniques to boost speed and to boost fly. If you hold the camera stick downwards and time your jumps as you land in the sand/snow then you'll accelerate forward while recharging in the sand. (Useful in The Dunes, Underground and Summit)
The fly boosting is a bit tricky sometimes, you need to speedboost into a specific wall (doesn't work everywhere) for a while and then change directions. This is really useful in the Vertical Temple. (although I failed in the second boost)

Here's my video: http://www.twitch.tv/oblimix/b/331578744
Will be up on youtube soon.

My mind is blown. You're getting a crazy amount of forward momentum.

I wonder if I can implement these tricks into red cloak, I can think of a couple of places it would suit but not many. If I can do it in desert starting with full boost then that will save a lot of time.
The wall boost seems to store your boost? If it's true that it's storage then I could work out how much scarf I need to use it in red claok.

The speedboost can be used whenever you want as long as you have some power in your scarf or when in freefall. With Red Robe i'm sure you'll be able to do the big jump at the end of The Dunes as well, but it won't help in Vertical Temple since the scarf is recharging while i'm boosting in the wall (I'm touching the ground and flying at the same time).

edit: I count it to 15 jumps into the wall at both boosts. This isn't necessarily the desired amount, but this worked best for me.

Edit2: Improved my time to 36:45. Can still save at least 40 seconds.
Hello, I have a bit more recently started trying out Speed Running (this game hit it home though). I've looked through your videos in the forum in order to improve my time and to help figure out a route (bad at the meta game). I have finally got myself down to 45:51 in a White Cloak All Symbols run, though I know I can get a faster time. I practiced the Fly Boost for at least a half-an hour and tested it to figure out if using it was faster when going after all symbols and it was by at least a minute.

I noticed Oblimix why the fly boost is tricky. I couldn't activate it in the dunes at all myself, but I did get it to work during the Temple. I noted that if you measure the length of time that it increases the boost and speed into the air, fairly obvious, but I also noticed that the way you jam yourself into the wall is fairly important. If done incorrectly, you'll un-cling to the wall and simply not move, not even up the wall as normal, or just not get the air and distance that you wanted.

I'm a bit confused as to how making the boost consistent, especially the second one since it's much harder to properly execute there.

Hi.
Yeah it takes a while to get used to. Charging in the wall seems to have a limit, so any more than 15 jumps don't seem to do anything.
To get into the wall correctly you need to distance yourself from it a bit first and then speedboost into it. Afterwards, what's important here isn't how you boost, but how you navigate the flying. The left analogue stick needs to be held down all the time, and even a slight wrong angle here will reduce your flight. Both of my boosts in that video actually failed on me, since I can go higher on the first boost and I got a bit lost on my second. I find the second boost easier once you know the trick, but you need to get distance from the wall first, which can get risky since you're on a ledge.

The flyboost on the dunes is easier to control, but requires practice. There's no wall to charge in, but luckily there's a huge drop at the end where you'll gain enough momentum to sling yourself upwards. Simply speedboost downwards, while avoiding the sands as much as possible since they reduce your speed, and change camera angle upwards.
I had to slightly touch the sand twice since I needed the extra juice with my limited scarf, but in your case you should have a much longer scarf, which means it's probably not necessary.

Okay, I'm starting to get it. In fact, the fly boost helps in gathering the symbol on the tower, so that's a bonus. I've gotta practice it for consistency but I'm feeling pretty confident about it. Thanks for guiding me through it. I do have my current Personal Best recorded (though not uploaded), but I know with a better understanding of how these techniques work, I'll have that time beat.

Edit: Finally got some decent Streaming equipment, though I'm still failing in the sound department... either way. Decided to do another run and managed to get just above 43 minutes. A new best for me.

For anyone wanting to see my 31:27 NG+ Any%.
Just made a 100% normal run. Time is 53 mins.

I do believe it's possible to get atleast 51 mins. I'm trying to find a route for 50 though
Nicely done.
I'm not sure calling it 100% is appropriate though, because I believe activating all Gylphs should be included in a 100%; although that's open for debate.
In any case it's a good All Symbols run. Smiley
I could do it with all glyphs 2, but for some reason I can't find the 1 in the Underground every time so I end up searching for it and then I have wasted to much time.

Edit:
My 29:00
For anyone curious, I made two improvements within the last month to both the White Cloak Any% and All Symbols runs.

The White Cloak Any% is at 26:49 -

The White Cloak All Symbols is at 31:12 -

Hopefully these videos will help out anyone looking to speed run this game. =)
