4 and a half second imporvement, if there's any flaws you find or anything I might want to improve, tell me before it's too late =)

And I'm looking forward to artus_mine. I'm going to rape that level, I expect to save around 1:40 on my last run =) I'll just end up pretty low on health and shield, but I'll find a way to survive artus_detention anyway =) I just don't know if I should segment artus_mine or not. There's several hard tricks, but it'd look GREAT without saving in between, we'll see about that.
Speed is the key.
Yay, you got it to work after all. Grin

Kejim Post looked absolutely perfect, it's incredible how useful strafe jumping is in this game...

About Artus Mine, I think you should just do what you have to do to get it as fast as possible. Wink
I think kejim_base has around 20 seconds of imporvements. I've got a nice trick for the ice room that saves just a few seconds, but I feel is worth showing off.

Which Thermal Detonators are faster to pick up? The ones in the secret area to the left after the ice room in kejim_base, or the ones on the lefthand side of the room you drop in after the mine part in artus_mine? I think the former are faster to aquire, but I'm not sure. I need either of them in any case.
Speed is the key.
I think the TD's in Kejim Base are faster to get to, too.

Might wanna time it though. :-/
Okay, I'm fairly certain I'll pick the ones in artus_mine

a) Grabing the ones in kejim_base interrupts my strafejumpign sequence, costing about a second or two already
b) Getting back out of the secret area is annoying due to the pipes and the low ceiling

In artus_mine you can grab the right set and jump to the door on those girders in the lava, which only costs about 3 seconds total.

Are there any possible route improvements to kejim_base that you could think of?

Not really, it's a very linear level. Only thing I can think of is to somehow get up here:

Or here:

It seems very unlikely though, since there is no ledge or anything to stand on. It would also have to be done quickly or you'd end up losing time.

Okay, got a first finish now, 10 seconds faster, but I had trouble opening the second key door and lost 3 seconds there, and I ran into quite some troopers on my way to the reactor, so I can and will still improve this.

The first room is really, really, REALLY annoying =(

Keep trying and you'll get it. Wink

Segment 2 done (see 2nd post on this page for the link)

There's two minor errors costing about half to three quarters of a second, but everything else was notably above avarage =)

Wow, you did it. I will download right away and edit in my comments later.

Edit: Very very nice, I liked how you handled the ice-room. Those mistakes were very minor and almost unnoticable, if I were you I'd keep this.
More LoK Speedruns plz kthxbi
May I ask whats up with you're character & interface & everything upside down???? is it a glitch, or did you edit the video to make it look like that?  Huh?  Shocked

I didn't turn the video upside down, it seems to be a problem decoding the video. Have you tried installing the latest ffdshow? It might solve the problem

Edit: By the way, this is my route for artus_mine:

Got to improve the battle with the thermal detonators and the mine part, and obviously the end, but this is the general route. Any improvement suggestions?

That was awesome! Shocked

That is without doubt the best way to handle that level... from what I could tell, anyway.

damn Dave, nice improvements. I finally got back into this myself. school has been kickin my ass lately and I didn't have much time to work on it.

if you could, upload the saves you have for the beginnings of the levels you get to, this way I can start with the same weapons/health/etc you do, give my own feedback.

This level is hella annoying to run. The start is repeatative and boring. The Jump to the mine is hard to get right if you want to jump as soon as possible. The mine itsself would be one heck of a segment, so many random stuff. Could be better, but this is one of the best attempts. Finally, the battle is really random with enemy movements, this one was quite damn fast, even with the slow down at the end. All in all, I'm satisfied, but another hour with this map would have made me steel a car and run it into a tree.
Speed is the key.
I think you should stick with that, the mine part was awesome and the battle even more so.
I think I'm close to giving this up. Artus_detention is the worst fucking level ever designed. I don't feel like spending a year on it, and I could use my luck for the lottery instead.

And I think I also figure out the E11's Slogan: "Aim. Shoot. Miss." Most useless gun in any FPS ever.

Maybe you should just try until you complete it, it doesn't have to be perfect, in a level like this it is inevitable to make mistakes.

And I agree with you about the E11.

I got my recording issue straightened out, so I'll actually be able to contribute to this run instead of just commenting

gonna use my gf's computer to do my recording, this way my vid's can be done at 640x480@60fps with no hiccups or speed loss (unlike my system where I can't record at 60fps even going down to 320x240 AND completely fuglifying my graphics)

I've been working on the first few levels, and the only improvements I can find at the moment are just a few small timesavers that will shave off maybe 2-3 seconds max. I'm still trying to get through the 2nd lvl in one pass with something under 2 mins, but you know how annoying stormtroopers are Smiley

I'm on artus_detention, don't TELL me about stormtroopers and annoyance. In any case, have you managed to improve artus_post or what?

5:38, still not happy with it =/ Stupid stupid level

Edit: 5:33, still doesn't look all too smooth =(

5:33 sounds quite good for Artus Detention I think... though if you want to improve it I'm not gonna stop you :P. If you feel that you can't... I think you should keep it and continue. Wink
It's not that I can't improve it. It's that I can neither bring me to put more time in this annoying piece of randomness nor can convince me that this segment is actually good, because it's not. The problem is that even saving wouldn't help, because then I would have an even higher barrier to reach, one that is nearly impossible in this level. Heck, I can do all the non random things perfectly fine by now. I am down to only using two bactas and do the second half of the level at 13 health because I want to enter Nar Shadaa with 5 Bactas so i don't have to detour to pick up any of them. But with the randomness of enemy movements, fast stair skips and getting through the mines fast, as well as enemy movement patterns during the escort part, all that skill is worth nothing. Ah well, maybe I'll upload the 5:33 later to get a second opinion on it, but we'll see about that.
Remember that perfect is the enemy of good. Smiley

A perfect, mechanical run is fun to watch once, but then people lose interest in the game. The best kind IMO is a great run that's still not quite perfect, because it's really entertaining to watch again and again (learning tricks, looking for places that could be done better), and it leaves people interested in running the game themselves!

5:33 sounds like you're kicking some major ass. I for one can't wait to watch it (even though I know I'll never, ever get a time like that...)

like I said before, the most improvements that I can find right now are only a few seconds here an there, nothing major. I still can't finish the lvls with your times though, I keep messing up. I think it's safe to keep your times, they're definately hard to beat.

upload your save for artus_detention an I'll take my hand at that one
