Hi SDA. I'm new to the forums and the main reason I registered is because I'm starting a Jak 3 segmented speedrun. I just want to clear up some stuff first.
Jak 3 has a constant and impossible to turn off auto saving feature. That can be quite annoying, i tested how it would be faster so in the first segment I choose to start a game without saving and saved manually at the end of it, from now on every segment will be constantly saved while I am progressing, but that doesn't mean i will stop playing and segment right away. That will mess up the in game timer since i will have to save on the diferent saving slots to keep that part from being overwrote by autosave. I wanted to make sure that timing the game manually and having autosave on is ok within SDA rules. ( The game doesn't fade while autosaving so you can clearly see when I am segmenting or not. )
About the segments, the game is constantly saving you can make segments for every 2 minutes, but since some parts are very easy / repetitive and loading the game will affect your latter positioning, I choose to make segments where either loading the game will give me an advantage, when a hard part is about to begin, or when the segment I am running is nearly 5 - 8 minutes long. Is minimizing the ammount of segments like this advised or should I make a tremendous ammount of segments due to the autosaving feature?
I haven't seen many advanced glitches and tricks in videos about Jak 3 that i didn't know about, i guess this game hasn't been seriously speedrunned yet. I made the route myself and I'll be using a lot of death warps ( if destroying your car is considered a death) as well as little timesaving tricks and glitches ( such as using circle to hover, the jetboard to skip a lot of parts in dungeons, etc.), without the use of any of the in game available cheats or hero mode.
I would apreciate any advanced knowledge about this game and I hope I'm fitting the conditions of SDA. If there's anything else i need to know before continuing the speedrun please tell me about it
Oh, also i will be recording the game with a Time Machine TV ( records on HD) then transfer it to the computer via USB, I guess it's okay to record this way , just wanted to mention it.
Thanks for the attention.
