wow....i dunno what to tell you...So how many missions do you have completed and taped?
MGS for PS1 forever.
I found out it was from having the ps2 on too long.

Currently I have about 5 missions to go until the end of Act 1. (recorded)

Damn, I can't wait for this.  I'm doing Jak III as we speak, and I would gladly like to see how's Jak II in comparison.
MGS for PS1 forever.
From what one person said 3 and a half hours is possible for Jak 3. I know I'll be getting under 5 hrs with this...but I don't know how much under 5 hrs it will be.
Once I finish individual levels for Jak II I plan to do the level select modes for Jak III... but I've played and beat both games and I think Jak II is a more challenging game because of frustrating missions.

MGS for PS1 forever.
I am officially done with Act I.

New Act I time: 1 hr 26 mins

Old Act I time: 1 hr 42 mins

It's nice that in just the first Act I was able to shave off 16 minutes and I'm sure that I'll be able to shave off probably another 5-10 in Act II because I was still getting dark jak abilities in Act II, but I stopped in Act III so I doubt I'll be saving a lot of minutes in Act III, but ya never know.

On a side note while I was playing the shoot eggs mission for Vin I missed one egg and got out of the turret for a second. Right before I got back in the turret...I kid you not...there was about 12 of those flying guys on screen at once...and not far away either...I almost had a heart attack.

WTF is a powerball? Ugh man..that's FREAKING SICK!
It's been 3 months, did you give up?
MGS for PS1 forever.
No, I haven't given up. I have moved and gotten a new job and the level that I'm at is extremely hard on Hero Mode. I also started practicing up on Rise to Honor...which I have not played for about a month now, but was practicing for single-segment.

For the past several weeks the only thing I've been doing is working and sleeping. I don't even have the vcr hooked up to the ps2 and tv yet. I'm hoping to get back into the swing in a couple of days.

I don't want to set deadlines so I will just leave it at: I will get to it soon.
well I have.... but don't worry I plan on starting over and working through normal mode of jak II since you're doing hero mode. This is instead of level select because the timing is still a little iffy...If we can get a solid affirmation that level select runs will be allowed I will go back and do those as well but right now Normal mode segmented  Grin

Well, I finally, after about an hour a day for several days I  got a very good time on the current level. It's the one where there is a bunch of little scorpion guys and the big guys that hurl things at you...and then you find samus hut. I tried many different strategies and I didn't want to accept any errors.

My previous time for the game up to this point was:

1 hr 54 mins

The new time is:

1 hr 36 mins

With the new strategies as well as a small shortcut I was able to shave off 4 minutes on the mission. The wonderful thing is that the rest of Act II is quite a bit easier.
I started normal mode segmented run today. Finished first two segments. Really fast IMO, little mistakes. I did my first segment up to save warp after protecting kor, and the second segment at the same save warp after getting the baron's flag. Expect to see more...Oh yeah and is getting jak's dark bomb a good idea?

I have yet to get the dark bomb on hero mode...and I'm into Act II now.

It would be interesting to see what would be faster...normal mode or hero mode. Enemies are easier to kill on normal, but you start out with all weapons which does make things a bit easier on hero mode.
WTF is a powerball? Ugh man..that's FREAKING SICK!
How come the topic title is Hero Mode - Like OoT? I understand the Hero Mode part...but the Like Oot part makes the title look awful  :-/. This'll be a very hard challenge, I beat hero mode without cheats easily but that one where you had the turret and you had to kill 40 KG bots or something was tough. Good luck man, I'll be looking forward to watch this run =).

Anyways, be sure to check out my Counter Strike Condition Zero run, link in sig.
The 'like OoT' part came when the OoT thread was still talking Sub 5 hours, which was what the target was here as well - but now they're going for Sub 3 so it doesn't have a connection anymore.
finished third segment... I'll post times soon, now on to the blow up ammo mission!
well great I f-ed up my tape...AGAIN :wallbash: Anyways I'm just gonna take a break from jak II and do other runs for now because I can't ever get around to doing it very much and I've messed up my tapes like seven times now. So I'm pretty jak'd out... You can go ahead and do normal mode after your hero mode run, not that you weren't going to, but I'd love to see it and maybe improve later down the road. I'm happy to test anything for you if you want, but good luck Grin

I'm almost halfway done with Act II. Hopefully I'll get several missions done on my days off...starting today.

Edit: I only got one mission done on my day off and I got a couple others in the past few days. I'm currently at 49% done with the game...23 minutes saved overall.

I am now to the destroy tanker at drill platform and I have yet to beat all 40 in that wave. I've gotten down to about 18. Granted, I'm not very good at shooting them, but still. Has anyone been able to do this on Hero Mode? I'd hate to have this be the one mission I can't beat.

I've been stuck on that mission for over a year now.. I can't beat it.... I've given up. But anyways good luck  Tongue
Oh yeah I've gotten down to two, that made me a little angry. heheh *twitch*

It seems that at least 75% of it is luck of how the enemies move. It truly pisses a person off when 5 enemies go in different directions and here comes the next wave. Luckily...and now you want to hate me, it took me a total of about 5 hours playing to do it. It was very much luck. The time right before I got down to about 35 guys to go and I was already dead, so it isn't quite a matter of skill. Later on in the level I tried to save time by high jumping...it didn't work...but my only thought was just to make it through the rest of the level without dying.

8 minutes...which is how long it took me to get through it on normal.

I'm thinking the rest of the game has to be easier than that freakin level so I'm glad it's behind me.

I am now done with Act II!

67%

3 hrs 7 mins

Total time saved: 28 mins.

Even though no one saw them except for me...in the original I had both tests of manhood as one segment...but I decided to make them each a segment to optimize it a bit more. To gain a couple more seconds I memorized where to jump on the colored block puzzles instead of jumping on one, waiting for the next one to light up and then jumping again. By splitting the segments up I was able to squeeze another minute off. The baron wasn't hard. At first I was only able to punch two bombs back at him...but in the final one (after about 4 tries or so) I was able to punch 4 back and then another 4. The last hit I got on him was a bit odd. I didn't know if it would work, but it did. I was able to throw one at him even though I couldn't see him. Yay me!
give me your eyes!!!
Nice! Good times there, and the odd visually impressive stuff always helps, keep it up!
nice job
MGS for PS1 forever.
I don't know what I'm going to do about the bomb bots mission. If I am able to beat it with how much ammo I currently have it'll be down to the last couple seconds. I already went ahead and did the escort men in sewers mission, but just to get there to krew and back all the way to torn adds about 4 minutes of driving time, so I'm hoping I can get past this bomb bot thing. I have only about 100 blaster ammo and 70 vulcan fury.

Just out of curiosity...has anyone in these forums actually beaten this game on hero mode?

I did, the only part that was much much harder was the turret mission we all know so well. I just got lucky.

I want to play again now, but my ps2 is deceased :-[
