I plan to speedrun BOTH NES and SNES games. Since I definitely have trouble often with getting both of these old pieces of hardware to work, I am considering buying a new NES and SNES. I was on Amazon when I came across this:

http://www.amazon.com/Retro-Bit-System-Silver-Super-NES-6306300/dp/B001VDZN3O/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1428615052&sr=1-3&keywords=snes

As long as I use legitimate cartridges, is this allowed? I ask this because I know that you are allowed to use the iQue to compete with the N64, etc. etc.

If needed please move this thread to a more applicable forum. I would prefer to receive an answer from an employee or an admin or a moderator to ensure the legitimacy of the answer. Thanks and happy urns!

Retro systems like that actually emulate the games and don't contain official hardware. As such, they are not allowed.

This is different, the iQue is an official console released by Nintendo. Systems like the Retro bit are 3rd party and are usually not anywhere near as accurate as official consoles. You'd be better off saving up for an actual console if you can or hunting down the games you want to speed-run on the Wii VC if you own a Wii already.

May I ask, I also looked on Amazon for Sega Genesis consoles, and I stumbled upon this (released by Sega). Is this approved? http://www.amazon.com/Genesis-AtGames-Classic-Game-Console-Electronic/dp/B00K2CXNPU/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1428621029&sr=1-1&keywords=sega+genesis

and this:

It's a reproduction, so it's not official hardware.
Pretty sure the Atgames consoles are not official licensed SEGA consoles.

I could be wrong though!

AtGames manufactures their own consoles which typically emulate Sega Mega Drive, Sega Master System or Sega Game Gear hardware to varying degrees of accuracy.

Sounds to me it's just like the RetroBit. Emulation, not true reproduction.

They actually are, sadly.

They're official emulators that are terrible.
