Oi the names ShockZz and i love to do speed runs of my favorite metroid games. I couldnt find anything to record my gameboy so i just  got a GBA to GC adapter and a HD PVR Gaming Edition to record it. Ill be looking forward to getting a good time and showing it with the world.
Hey,

I've been on SRL for a while now, and I realized I never made an account on SDA. I've been watching SDA's streams and archives for years now and been speed running myself for about half a year. I mainly run Skyward Sword and Super Metroid, but you never know what else I might add. I live in Maryland, so I have little excuse to not make it to SGDQ this year. Who knows, maybe I'll get good enough to play Skyward Sword there (but probably not, as it's long). Happy runnings, all!
Sup,

my name is Stefan and im 23 years old. I live in Germany and like watching Speedruns. I also watched your marathons for Charity and enjoyed these alot.

I would like to be a part of SDA aswell. At the moment I'm working on a Segmented run for Terranigma on the Emulator via Live stream (twitch.tv/lemonsx)
As soon as I'm finished I'll get my hands on a real console and redo my run Smiley
Hello,

I've been lurking on SDA for a while but never created an account before now.  I don't really run much, but I am toying with the idea for a Charles Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden Run, and possibly a Zapper run.
Hello SDA!

I'm a relatively new gamer, having only played relatively recent games on newer systems (N64/PS1 onwards) with a few exceptions back in the SNES era. I have been watching speedruns of my favourtie games hosted on SDA for perhaps a few years now, and discovered SpeedRunsLive just under a year ago. I really enjoyed watching live attempts of my favourite games and decided to give it a go myself, joining SRL in December 2011.

My main current interest is speedrunning 'A Link to the Past' and I intend to eventually (and hopefully!) submit a run for each category. Currently, I am just practicing on an emulator and learning the best strategies and routes, whilst trying to improve at the game overall. I will be buying a SNES/SFC and the Japanese 1.0 cart soon, along with a capture card and everything I need to record runs, so watch this space for live console attempts!

My favourite game of all time is 'Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2' on the PC. I played competively since I can remember, peaking at World Rank #9. I was a rare 'Allied' player and have many great memories of this game. I may consider speedrunning the Campaign, if there is any interest in this at least.

I also enjoy racing on SRL in SMW and other popular games, and hopefully I'll expand my repetoire of games in time to come!

About me? I'm 22 and reside in the UK. I'm currently reading Physics at the University of Bristol. I play tennis, badminton and football. Oh and I love tea.

Have a great day y'all!

YES!!! There was a run submitted a while back (for soviet i believe?) that got rejected which made me sad. I would love any C&C speedruns.

Oh really? Do you happen to know why it was rejected? I'd definitely consider doing both Campaigns (maybe on Yuri's Revenge too). The planning of such a game would be very interesting!

Apparently 'a while back' was 3 years ago. Damn.
My name is Lindsay 'Bob' Duckfield,
Recently speedruns and gaming records has brought me and my attention to this wonderful website.
I have enjoyed playing many games on many platforms over the last 24 years.

Speedruns can offer a new level of gaming, and a higher level of challenge. The first i am looking to undertake is 'Final Fantasy X' - Wish me luck.

Thankyou for taking the time to read this.

LJDuckfield, hi and welcome.
There is actually one guy streaming Final Fantasy X speedruns now and then. You should check out http://www.twitch.tv/caracarnvi . Smiley
Good luck!

hello my real name is adam i am joining after lurking the site for many years... i have recently started streaming and working on some runs
Hi I'm Ed, gamer/guitarist and I signed up to find out about playing soundtracks at the next marathon after watching the marathons during that last two years and really enjoying the pianovania and pianotoads stuff Kareshi does. I've run a few games here and there for fun, 33-minute Portal (pretty lame!) using SDA rules is my best run. I play mostly PC games.

difficult and stupidly random
Hi erambient
Some suggestions for making the live-soundtrack thing work:
- pick a game with a good soundtrack (obviously!) that is going to be familiar to a lot of people.
- pick a relatively short game (probably not over an hour) because longer games kind of need commentary to keep them interesting, and you can't have commentary if you've got live music.
- pick a retro game (imo) since typically later-generation games already have actual instruments recorded in their soundtrack, so the effect is much less dramatic than if you're covering something that was originally done with simple 8-bit/16-bit syth.  retro games also tend to be more iconic.
- pick a game where the music differs from level to level and changes up frequently enough to keep it interesting (as many games tend to re-use music or let the same track continue on for way too long)

Something else to consider is that the primary consideration in game choice is suitability for a marathon, and suitability for musical accompaniment is secondary.  Meaning that above all else games must be chosen because they make good marathon games (runnability, length, popularity, availability of a runner).  So you'd have to either wait until the game list is decided before choosing which one to accompany, or put out some suggestions, see what Uyama likes, and make sure you can actually find someone talented to run the game.

If you're considering this for AGDQ next January, planning won't begin until after the summer marathon is over.
Hi feasel! Yeah I'm going to come back to the forums in June/July and see when people start talking about AGDQ 2013 and bring it up at that point. And game choice doesn't matter to me at all, like I'd only really want to do it if Mike and everyone else believe that it would help attract more donations (cause a lot of people have awesome commentary!). If it would raise more money for cancer prevention, that's reason enough for me to participate. I actually plan to ask about doing multiple soundtracks on different days, or maybe certain sections of specific games that would be complimented by a live soundtrack. But yeah, basically I'm just going to beg and beg and beg Mike and if he's okay with it, then I'll let him or the runners choose what they want me to play!
I appreciate the pointers, and will keep all that in mind.
Thanks!

If I might make a suggestion on that front: Super Meat Boy fits basically all the criteria above (I guess it's not retro, but it's trying to be). Since the gameplay is also very simple it doesn't need super detailed commentary, and even if the run is a longer category like dark world ending (which is 50-60 minutes or so), some of the tracks are better suited to piano accompaniment than guitar, so there could be some switching out or duets going on.

It's an idea I would definitely get behind, that's for sure. I think kareshi's performances to date have definitely added something unique to the marathons, and the more unique (and awesome) things we can add the better!
Phantasmagoria!
Hey my name is Nick. I've been watching SDA for years now, and after seeing AGDC2012 I decided to make an account. I do speed runs for fun, but would like to take it to the next level. Currently I run Rainbow Six Vegas and Brawl. I currently live on Long Island, and would love to be a part of a marathon in the future.
Hi Vakarian, got your name from Mass Effect by any chance?
And hi mike89! I love the meat boy soundtrack, as well as Danny Baranowsky's other video game work that I've heard. Yeah, I'm open to play anything - some soundtracks that have a lot of simultaneous textures going on would definitely be better fit to piano than guitar and I wouldn't want to interfere with Kareshi's spotlight. He is THE MAN!

Hmmm I never noticed this thread until now, like a month after I've been posting haha... Well My name's Alex and I've been lurking these threads for the past few years, and after AGDQ 2012, finally decided to make my own account to get a little bit more involved. Smiley

I'm a college student right now studying electrical & computer engineering, and obviously gaming is my main hobby Tongue I love casually playing mostly Nintendo games (aka KIRBY, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin) along with RPGs and platformers mostly (Anything Squaresoft, Mega Man, Sonic, etc). I've been hooked on officially speed running Kirby games, including Kirby Super Star Ultra, Kirby Squeak Squad, and the one I've put the most work in, Kirby's Return to Dreamland.
I've been lurking since after AGDQ'11 and joined up finally after AGDQ'12, so I should probably get to introducing myself.

My name is Garrick, and I go by RoaTheEternal or just Roa most places online. I'm a cook from New York, living in northern Mass., who loves to watch games. I always watched my brother play games while growing up because I'm generally pretty bad at games. When I play games, it's usually on PC; since I use Linux mainly, this means I often play using Wine.

One game that I feel that I am actually good at is KotoR, and I'd like to get a consistent single segment strategy with the intent of possibly running it at a future marathon (and if I can get it good enough, maybe even submit it to the site).
I've been on here. Just...not posting...much....or anything.

My name is Darren. I go by doicm. Living in Utah going to school and studying Information Systems. I like playing games. Recently, I've been casually speed running the GC game Mega Man Network Transmission. Unfortunately, I don't have anything to record my speed runs with, so I have no real drive to speed run for submission. However, I do enjoy it quite a bit, and I look forward to contributing more into this community.
My name's Thomas, I'm 22, french and have been around here since 2009 I'd say.

I discovered the site when I was looking for a speedrun of Sonic 2, and ended up watching Stanski's run. I found that awesome and started watching some other speedruns (mainly Sonic).

I never felt like doing a run myself until recently : I'm planning on speedrunning Sonic Generations. Hope I'll get that done soon enough Smiley

Hello, I'm Aleksi aka Bablo, one of the few finnish members of this community.

My biggest work has been improving the old 13:13 NES Castlevania speedrun into 12:21 which took a whole year of work coming up with the strategies. Although it has been since beaten by Josh the Funkdoc by 15 seconds. I do have another speedrun on the site for the game Wizards & Warriors for NES, which remains my only record at the moment. For giggles, here's my first speedrun ever.

Although I consider myself a very competitive speedrunner (with some TASing experience too) most of my contributions have been coming up with faster strategies for games I'm familiar with. I helped funkdoc with Castlevania and Super Castlevania 4 strategies, and researched a lot of different boss orders for Mega Man 2 with Seth Glass. Might not sound like much but I spent endless hours on these games, and if you look at the current speedruns for said games they're in quite good shape. I don't care that much about the personal record, also the planning part has always been more enjoyable for me than attempting a speedrun with finished tactics. A healthy competition still works for me,

I've been inactive for the past two years, mostly due to lack of recording and streaming equipment, which is hard to get for NTSC stuff here. But I decided I would start speedrunning again, hopefully streaming my attempts soon too.

Welcome back, Bablo!  ^_^  As I said yesterday, I'm glad to see you back on the scene.
Hey everyone. I'm Spyk Saturn. A buddy of mine, Adam Agro, introduced me to this website because of my natural talent to beat games relatively quick after just having played them for the first time. I have not attempted a speed run of anything yet but I am really excited to try. I do have a game in mind for my first and it seems it hasn't been attempted yet. It is great to see a community of people dedicated to getting so much value out of a purchased game that they know it intimately in and out. I look forward to contributing.
