Greetings Everyone!

I first started watching speedruns early this year during AGDQ 2013. I had no idea the scene was so awesome and filled with tons of talented and genuine individuals. Since then, I have been following countless runners doing their thing on twitch and have been thoroughly entertained.

I've been considering jumping into the scene myself for many months now, but have had no idea what kind of game I would like to run. There have only been a few games I have played through multiple times, and I'm not really sure how suitable they are to speedrunning (mainly the Uncharted series). I may look into that later on.

For now, I think my first game I will learn will be Mirror's Edge. It has been one of my favorite games since it came out and I use to play the console version a ton trying to improve my time on the time trials. I'm also a big fan of first-person platforming, which always seems to draw curious glances from people as if I'm crazy and masochistic. Which in fairness, I do consider myself crazy and masochistic when it comes to my gaming habits. Climbing Maps in CS:S (counter-strike:source) and jumping puzzles in general, are my favorite ways to unwind and just chill.

Future games I want to learn how to run are Malicious, a sort of boss arena type game, and Crescent Pale Mist, a doujin action platformer on PSN. They will have to wait until I get some proper HD capture gear for my PS3.

If you are interested in what I would like to run, or have questions for me, I would happily answer them. If you wish to see me in action (when I get it set up) you can find me on http://www.twitch.tv/macexx

I hope I am able to provide some interesting and unique entertainment with my runs. I would love to be able to bring something different to the table to offer a unique or interesting runs to the community. I also hope one day to participate in a marathon and be among the greatest in the scene.

Thank you!
-Mace
Well I guess I've lurked around here and srl for long enough. I am The Verbal Hologram who has been a long time video game and music enthusiast. I've been following the speedrunning community as more of a spectator since AGDQ 2012 but have finally decided to give up playing League of Legends and try running some games of my own. My current project is to learn the Dark Souls Any% and All Bosses routes and then from there I hope that I can find the time to learn a Final Fantasy or Golden Sun. I'm moving out of my parents house (finally) within the next couple weeks and will have access to verzion fios (fuck yeah) so by that point I'll hopefully have a stream up and running to chronicle my failures at speedrunning (and solo queue from time to time). Also if any of you jrpg enthusiasts have any tips as to how you go about routing games and what kind of work it takes to get a run together before actually starting it I would greatly appreciate it

Also props to you OG's here at sda and the guys over at srl for really working your asses off to legitimize your hobby. It seems that you've drawn in me and a lot of other newbies to join the fray. All the while doing some great things for others through charity. So once again thanks to you all for being awesome
Hello Everyone,
My name is Shaheen and I am from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. We don't have any speed runners over here in the region but hopefully I'll be the first over here and will try to encourage other gamers to follow suit. I saw AGDQ 2013 and SGDQ 2013 which motivated me to try to speed run games, my first attempt will be Breath of Fire IV and after that any game that grabs my interest and attention. Hope to meet you guys in real life some day! thumbsup
Hey everyone! I'm new to speed runs, I have a ton of games and console so I'm in no short supply of something to try to run. I stumbled across AGDQ right after it had happened this year and I've watched every run from that, and tried to watch as much as I could of SGDQ. I've followed some of the runners and I like the community. A lot of people seem like genuine people and I'm hoping to get to go to AGDQ 2014. I'm thinking of running Strider for NES as my first game and have been looking around for tips and strats.
Hey there, I recently started watching speedruns at the SDGQ and recently decided I want to become part of what seems like a really decent community. I grew up playing snes and upward and plan on running some of my favorite games from back then.
Hey everybody, I'm Andy or Lost Symphonies, I love speedruns and I've watched A LOT of streams before and now I am making an account to flirt with the idea of getting into the speedrunning scene a lot more. I know a lot of names but I lurk in chat a lot and talk in a few chats. I'd say I've been watching people speedrunning for a good couple of years (2 or 3).

I've been learning OoT any% for the fun of it, to see if I could even accomplish it, and I haven't yet (stalfos are hard, man). I know a lot of games I want to run, but I don't have the access to consoles and carts yet (just graduated from uni, looking for a job).

About me I'm a born and bred Yorkshireman with a thick accent, theres not much more to say. Thanks for reading.
Holier Than Thou
My name is Ted and I came here from the SGDQ2013 stream.

I speedran Nintendo games roughly around 2003-2004, but I never got properly involved in the community.

I grew up with an N64, so the games I run tend to be from that era. SM64 is a given.

I only intend to run casually for now, but I've really enjoyed de-rusting after enjoying the SGDQ stream, and really enjoy watching live streams from the runners who were there.
H guys, I just joined in here and I was wondering if there has been a glitch less mega man 2 run?
Bahamut is in envy
I'm WHiPCPL

Well that's not my real name obviously, although that would be cool. I've been watching speedruns for well over a year now, I eventually found SDA thorugh AGDQ and I've been hooked ever since. My first real exposure to speedruns would be Crash Bandicoot Warped with the relic challenges (which I was horrible at).

I plan on speedrunning the Final Fantasy 1 & 2 psp remakes, mainly since they are the only games I can stream, but also because love RPG's. If I someday manage to get a capture card I plan on expanding on what games to play.

When I'm not playing games I pretend I do well at university. Because in Denmark they have the logic that if you don't understand biology and chemistry, then there's no way you can learn statistics. Funny how that works isn't it?

I'm not sure why I want to speedrun games, whether for records or just casually, I don't know, but I think it's more about challenge than glory :D.
Hey, I'm AzureFlame4.

I've mostly been working on speedrunning Digimon World and even held the WR for a total of two hours until the previous record holder took it back. I'm currently working with others to completely optimize the any% glitchless run of DW and am also working on two other categories for the game including 100PP. I hope to eventually do as many of the Digimon games as I can with the exception of the card game. Though the World games pretty much haunted my childhood because I could never beat any of them, they are some of my favorite games of all time now. I've also touched upon Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for the SNES, but I'm not anywhere near good at that one yet.
Hello community! I'm TamaHawk

I got into speedrunning after watching RunnerGuy stream his blindfold playthrough of OoT. Since then I have enjoyed casually speedrunning titles to my abilitys. I enjoyed AGDQ and SGDQ 2013 vary much and those streams were the main reason I finally decided to register here after seeing how awesome the community is :).

I enjoy speedrunning Donkey Kong Country, OoT CDS catagory and recently have been inspired to try running a Final Fantasy game which I find vary enjoyable thumbsup
Hey all, I'm Kevinness!

I always loved seeing people speedrun games and thought i also wanted to give it a try. Currently I'm running mostly short Gameboy games like "Kirby's Dream Land" and "Mickey's Dangerous Chase" to prepare myself for other games.

I also like to make my own kind of weird categories for games that normaly aren't suitable for speedrunning or arn't allowed for speedrunning like the one im currently practising for "Guitar Hero :Metallica Career Mode Blindfolded", I mostly do these for my personal favor and don't think they should be accepted as a real speedrun.
Hey, what's up, guys. I'm Funkhouse.

I've known about speedrunning for several years, but it hadn't really interested me too much until I started watching the SDA marathons via AGDQ 2013. It changed my views on speedrunning drastically when I got to see the personalities behind the runs themselves. It made them seem a lot more personal and enjoyable when I got to see all the people explaining what they were doing, how it worked, and why they enjoyed doing it so much. It wasn't until the recent SGDQ that I was inspired to start running stuff myself. It seems like a really engaging hobby, which is just what I've been looking for outside of my various passions.

I'm starting by learning to speedrun System Shock 2, and I began attempting it literally only a few days ago by watching mainly KhanFusion's runs and copying them to the best of my ability in order to learn the tricks. It's tough, but that's what I expected from the start and it's already a really rewarding process to be able to pull off even the most trivial glitches. I can't wait to really get into it.

After I feel content enough in my ability to run through that, I intend to do Dark Souls II once that comes out. I'm excited to see if I can be a part of the group that will inevitably be learning the game and experimenting together.

I think outside of learning the games themselves, my end goal is to play one of the games I've learned during a marathon one year. It looks like an incredible thing to be a part of and... I want to be a part of it. Cheesy
Always move forward, never sleep.
Hello, I'm Socrates Johnson, or Socrates, or just Soc.  (So-crates, you know, like in Bill and Ted.  Short one is just like soak.)

So, like many people, I've been watching the GDQ marathons, and have been highly entertained, and also amazed at the skill and dedication involved.  I'm currently learning Thief 2: The Metal Age for PC, as I absolutely love the Thief series, and loved 2 the best.  I think I'll go for Thief Gold, and Thief: Deadly Shadows afterwards, but for now, attempting to perfect my times in 2.  Might even hit up System Shock 2 as well, as that game just rules.

Otherwise, I'm just a dude, working in the IT field, supporting the environments and applications our company creates and hosts.  I also enjoy drinking, like most from Wisconsin.  I usually try to keep a low profile (thanks Thief 2 ... Wink ) but will usually answer any question honestly.  So if there is anything you'd like to know, just ask.

Thanks, and good luck with the runs!
may use a few too many Kappas
I guess it's time I formally introduce myself.

Feel free to call me Cards or COTH if my name is too long and/or you're too lazy. You may know me from running such games as Mario Golf: Advance Tour, Pokemon Puzzle League, Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, and Monster Rancher Advance. I'm also learning Pokemon Red/Blue glitchless and Stadium 1's Gym Leader Castle R1. I hope to run some actual Yu-Gi-Oh! games as well as some not-Final-Fantasy RPGs in the future. (My favorite series is Disgaea. Why yes, I am a masochist. Why do you ask?)

I also have a full-time job at the present and can only stream from about 7-11pm ET during the week. I do stream more on weekends, particularly in the afternoons. If you're really bored, come hang out on my Twitch page! I'm always looking to chat it up.

I've been on SRL for a while, thanks in large part to werster and his Pokemon runs that got me into speedrunning in the first place. I'm introducing myself now because I'm finally armed with a Game Boy Player and Dazzle and ready to eventually submit runs. Perhaps I can also take the opportunity to get more involved in the community... if you'll have me, of course. Tongue

Oh, and don't be surprised if I use a few too many Kappas in my sentences.

Kappa.
Like a lot of other new users I discovered my personal interest for speedrunning via watching this years SGDQ event, though I've been well aware of speedrunning for a few years - I never realized there was a real community for it as much as I thought it was mostly elite gamers trying to make some viral YouTube videos. Now that I know I can speedrun my favorite RPGs, it brings a lot of replay value to them that I've lost after just merely playing through the story and beating them again recently.

My name is Dustin, I'm going by the alias veiloftheabyss, which is the name of an album one of the bands I play in is working on recording later this year. I live in the Central Midwest of the U.S. and have been gaming for close to 30 years, and considering I'm turning 32 in a few months from now, that makes me a weirdo probably. Or probably not. I'm particularly fond of the RPG genre, and have a ton of nostalgia for 8-bit and 16-bit era consoles. So it will not surprise most folks on here that the first games I plan to study and eventually run are Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI, and Chrono Trigger. I might want to get into some NES-era side scrollers as well such as Ninja Gaiden, the Mario series, and Mega Man as well.

I'm an IT major who graduated from DeVry last year - which I will promptly tell you to NOT go to this school. Pick a decent state college instead, it's way cheaper, and you'll be judged more on your certifications you acquire throughout your career than the school you went to. My other big hobby/part of my life is music. My parents raised me on music since I was an infant. One of the first vinyl records I owned was Iron Maiden's "Powerslave" when I was 6. I've been playing instruments since I was 11, and playing in bands since I was 15. I've toured throughout the U.S. several times in many different metal and punk bands. It's my passion more than gaming, but the older you get, the harder it is to go on the road if it doesn't make you any money (which it never has for me, and doesn't for most).

I'm looking very much forward to getting my feet wet in this community, and becoming a decent runner on a number of different games - to the point where I would love to attend an event like SGDQ or AGDQ to help raise money for charity organizations that I personally support. I've always been a backer for Doctors without Borders, so it was inspiring to see that gaming could raise a quarter of a million dollars for this great organization! Hopefully that's something I can be a part of in the future!
Edit history:
dekigo: 2013-08-07 12:28:05 am
so i'll throw an obligatory post in this here thread.

I'm dekigo, I speedrun Dishonored and I am looking at possibly speedrunning some Thief, Dark Souls, and Banjo Kazooie games down the road.

I am currently 21 and a full-time student studying computer science and music. Other than playing games real quick, I produce music and also produce a radio show with my college's radio show. I'm also the musical director of an Acapella group on campus. I expect to start streaming in the near future as I have all the tools I need, so tune in, and expect some really good music! I also love baseball, so... talk to me about baseball!
Speed Run games at 20% coolness
Hello everyone, I'm DarkFrog or Dark, whatever you guys want to use. I've been looking at the site on and off since 2006 and after seeing the Awesome Games done quick videos on youtube, I wanted to go into speed running. I tried to speed tun games on my own times, mainly OoT runs, but than I saw a speed run of Secret of Mana, one of my most played games in my childhood. I'm slowly study up on the enemy AI and boss AI and how to best plan my run, My goal is to aim around 5:00 - 5:10. I wound also love to attend an event like SGDQ or AGDQ to rise money for charity organizations, I had some exp doing an event for a charity organization, it was a 17 day manation for the wounded solider charity. See you guys around the forms.
Hi everyone, I'm Hunter. I'm 17. lad musician
Hey everybody, looking forward to getting into the SR community. I have done quite a bit of work with long runs, so I'm hoping that experience translates well into doing the almost exact opposite thing! I'll probably get a stream set up soon, so I'd greatly appreciate if anyone was interested in helping me to get started with routing, SBs, and all that jazz. I'll probably start with PC games, as I don't have a capture card or anything for consoles, and I'm not too fond of emulation. See y'all around.
Expert Speedrun Spectator
Hi there! I was introduced to AGDQ in 2011 and have been completely hooked ever since. I'm still not confident enough to attempt any runs of my own, and find myself more interested in being a spectator. The skill and commitment involved is awe-inspiring, and the community seems very friendly and respectful while remaining competitive. I would very much like to attend a GDQ event in the near future and help out the organizers/attendees/community in any way that I am able. AGDQ and SGDQ seem like such fun events that would be even better when experienced live. Cheesy
Aspiring pubescent speed-runner.
Hello everyone. I go my the name Amatasaru (and sometimes Chawe) and I am an aspiring teenage speed runner. I have just found SDA from one of my friends who have me the link for the July 2013 live stream. I plan on running some really simple online games to begin with, before moving on to try to get a good time in super monkey ball. I realize speed running is not easy but I think I will develop it as a hobby.
New to Running
Hi there all! I'm new to speed running, and hear this is an AWESOME community! Cheesy So i would like to introduce myself, I'm Brian, and i would like to tell you all that i am currently running a 16 star run of sm64. Smiley I would love it if some people could help me out with learning new games and stuff. It would mean a lot. Cheesy
Sega RPG Fanatic
Hi everyone! I've been mostly lurking for the last year or so and am looking forward to becoming more active in the community.  I am mostly an RPG fan and tend to gravitate toward those types of runs, but my fist run is a Sega Master System game called Golvellius: Valley of Doom (It was one of my favorites growing up).  Looking forward to learning more about speedrunning and picking up some good games along the way.
Hello everybody
I'm PetroleVB, french player and speedrunner and I don't really have many things to say... yet (I hope)
Thanks a lot to SDA for all the work they're doing
