Hey everyone! I'm shiningtime and I've been following the community for about 8 months now. I basically discovered videos of AGDQ 2012 on youtube and being amazed at how fast these games could be beaten. The video that did it for me was Mike89's run of Pokemon Blue from AGDQ 2012, I watched all two hours and that's where it began. I did see parts of AGDQ 2013 but unfortunately school kept me away from watching it as much as I would have liked. I'm looking forward to SGDQ this year!

Anyways, I really want to start speedrunning, I've tried to figure out what games might be possible. I even figured out how to use wsplit and did an any% run of Super Meat Boy in 2 hours and 1 minute, I guess I have a long way to go haha. Unfortunately I don't have a really high end computer so streaming + gaming wouldn't work for me, and I don't have a capture card.

So uh about me? I'm 15 (the age made me kinda hesitant to join for a while, but I got over it) and I'm a musician. My favorite runners are (in no particular order) Cosmo, Runnerguy, Mike89, Breakdown (who inspired me to start running SMB) and a bunch of others I'm forgetting. Oh, and PJ. Gotta love PJ. I'd really love to start running games soon, I just need to practice a bit. So hopefully I'll see you guys around, I really look up to you guys and I'd love to be a part of the community and join the ranks, that'd really be awesome. See ya! Cheesy

Welcome, everybody!  Always glad to see some new members.  ^_^
sup duders and dudettes. TBRX here. I've been around the scene for a little over a year now but never registered until just now because I'm the worst procrastinator in the world. I currently run Blast Corps and Dark Souls, formerly OoT. Shoutouts to Peaches, Neskamikaze, Animeowzerz and moar. Love you dudes.
Hello, My name is Sammy, but I often get reffered to as Shadow or Creep on most communities.

I've been lurking on these forums from time to time looking at certain rules and such for speedruns, and became more and more interesting in doing them.
I'm just a 22y old college student that likes games and has been playing alot of them for a long time. Don't know what more I can say about myself here, always sucked at things like this, so I guess just inbox me Questions if you have any :p
Hello, I discovered this community through a link of an AGDQ event, and I've been hooked. In a few weeks, I've watched every single highlight/blooper reel in youtube and almost the entire AGDQ 2013 marathon (except for two or three runs).

My favorite live runs have been two types: commentated/ranted (Ninja Gaiden Black was hilarious) and the "that wasn't supposed to happen" runs (mainly Pokemon Blue).
Aspiring Runner
Whaddup peeps. My name is Ben and I am obviously new to speedruns. I've known what speedruns were for a long time, but I never put a thought to actually doing them. Finally, I have decided to try it out. Starting with Banjo-Kazooie.

Now a bit about me. I'm a 19 year old community college drop-out who currently works at Sears as a sales associate. I like video games, comic books, anime, pro wrestling, heavy metal music, and tabletop RPGs. I hope to get to know some of you all in the time I am here.

Here's to new beginnings.
Top Hat Can't Top That
Hai guys, I'm Brandon, and I have recently become fascinated with speedruns.  Watching them and learning how to do them myself.  Right now I am learning the concepts of speedruninng like mapping a route, how to use and discover glitches, and just playing efficiently.

As for me, I am 17 going on 18 soon.  I will be attending community college this fall and currently unemployed. (Sucks)  I enjoy reading manga, drawing, watching anime, and playing new games and classics.
Hi everybody, I'm Guillaume from France. I'm 22 and I speedrun Rayman 2 PC since 3 weeks.
I discovered speedrunning with TAS on the broadcast 88mph from RealMyope and CoeurDeVandale.

I'm computer scientist and a very big rowing man ! Smiley
See you soon !
Oh snap!  Nice avatar, Disciple!  Longtime Iced Earth fan here.

Also welcome everybody, and happy speedrunning!
Hello people, I'm TheUnluckyOne from Smogon. Being rather good in the Smogon community (a place for competitive pokemon) digging deep into something is not too foreign of me. Hopefully I can help people out find some stuff out about routes and speedrunning somewhere here and I'm absolutely willing to participate.
Hi there.

I'm Jesse 'VocTer' Raen and I'm a 25 year old guy from England. I'm mostly involved in the UK Starcraft 2 scene, producing video content and helping run events and the like.
I got into watching speedruns during AGDQ 2013, and essentially haven't left SRL & SDA since then.

Right now I'm considering learning to speedrun Super Meat Boy, since I love platformers and I can't seem to stop playing it and figured these forums were the best place to start getting more involved with the community.
Uhmmm... Greetings.
I'm Eddy, 20 years old, from Brazil (ok, my name is written differently but pronounced the same). I'm currently unenployed, but studying at university (though universities here in Brazil work differently countries like the US, so it isn't a full-time thing), doing a degree in business.
I'm not really involved with speedrunning or any competitive scene whatsoever, but I'm trying to start a blog about gaming in general, so... There's that...

I have to be honest, at the moment I'm not really wanting to become a speedrunner (that may change in the future, though *wink wink*), but I absolutely love to watch and it would be amazing to be able to discuss things like glitches and bugs with people around here (not to mention the ability to watch as things develop)

I play Starcraft II on a regular basis (though mostly only fan-made stuff on the "Arcade") and, from time to time, I get addicted to a new game on Steam (or end up reviving an old addiction for a game that I already own - which is more common, considering my unemployment) and have been following SDA for ages, though haven't been able to watch the marathons live (due to time differences and that stupid need to sleep at night) or donate, sadly.

And yes, I've had this account for quite a while now but never bothered to post anything here. Go figure...

Hey everyone.

My names Trevor and I've been lurking on here since the middle of 2011.  My ex told me about some of the speed runs of old survival horror games and I've been hooked ever since.  I have always wanted to make an account on here but I never really got around to it, but I figured I might as well try now.  And about me, I'm 20 (about to be 21 in a few weeks), originally from Tennessee, now living in California just working and saving up for school.  All I do in my free time is play games pretty much.  And yeah, that's about all I can think of right now.  I want to try and post a few speedruns as soon as I get a way to record again, so I hope I can do that in the next month or so.
Hi Everybody!

I'm a 20 something from Australia. I've been interested in speedrunning and lurking around SDA for a few years but didn't start running myself until early this year. I saw some footage from AGDQ 2012 and had to give it a go. Since then I've been running OOT, SM64, MGS3, Sonic 1 (sms version) and I'm currently working on a Single Segment run of Shadow of the Colossus. Hope to get at least one run on SDA by the end of year. Doesn't really matter because I'm having lots of fun anyway =p
the bluest of blazers
What's up everyone, my real name is Zac so you can call me Zac or blueblazer. I live up in the Niagara Region of Ontario Canada and I'm currently in school for TV and Film broadcasting. In my free time I mostly play fighting games and action games (though I do love me a great RPG once and a while).

I used to speedrun Megaman X and Megaman 9 a lot before I got into the fighting game community. I think my fastest run was sub 50 for Megaman X but that was a few years ago. I stopped doing speedruns after I got into the FGC but after watching a lot of Awesome Games Done Quick in the last few days I've decided to start working on a couple of games again. After Toryuken 2 this weekend I'm going to be working on Viewtiful Joe and possibly Bayonetta (I might eventually want to run all Clover/Platinum games they're the bomb).

But yeah that's me, nice to meet you guys Smiley

Hi!

I am Matt from the Bay Area in California (USA). My username is supposed to be 26.2 but "." is generally an illegal character. FYI, 26.2 is the amount of miles in a marathon ...and yes, I have run ONE thus far. Unfortunately, this year there was a tragedy at the Boston Marathon. My heart goes out to all the victims who suffered from the bombing attacks.

What got me interested in speedrunning was watching all the great videos of AGDQ 2013. For my first run, I chose Donkey Kong 64 because it is very broken Grin As of right now, I enjoy racing Pokemon Red with Nidoking strats. I plan on running the entirety of Jet Force Gemini on the N64 and Warlocked on the Gameboy Color soon. Catch me on Speed Runs Live! (twenty6pt2)
you can actually use 26.2 as your username on the forum if you want. only problem is it may not display properly on the knowledge base. let me know if you'd like me to change it and welcome to the forum.
Hello all!  I've been into watching speedruns for a while so I figured it's finally time for myself to participate.  I've always been amazed at all the tricks involved in speedrunning.  I recall watching an old Super Metroid run from many many years ago and being amazed by the sequence breaking and overall skill of the player.  That's what got my interested in running games.  I'm interested in mainly older consoles, specifically the NES and SNES.  I'm just starting out but hopefully I'll get some records of my own soon.
Hey everyone!

I've been watching speed runs for years and now I thought to give speed running a go. I have a run on youtube and now to figured out to submit it. I want a WR! Hope to hear from you guys soon and you will be seeing more post by me in the future! wooo!!!
I am a koala
Hello, I'm Wyrmtalon.

I didn't really know speedrunning was a thing until AGDQ 2013, and after the marathon more or less forgot about it, then a few weeks ago randomly remembered it again and went to watch, well rewatch the marathon, and this time I've really gotten into it.  I really enjoy watching runs and find them very interesting. I have considered attempting to learn one or two though I'm not sure how far I'll get with actually doing them. I'll probably lurk more than anything else, I'll contribute if and when I can.

Not much of an introduction, but it's something at least.
Hello everyone, my name is Vincent but my Interwebs gaming presence is usually under DoktorV. I was sort of aware of speedrunning since I discovered Quake Done Quick a few years late, and then I discovered Doom runs, which I would watch occasionally. I suppose I'm almost as impressed by the glitch exploits as I am by the virtuosity of serious runners. Perhaps it's something about revealing underlying mistakes, omissions, and whatnot in the game's underlying logic fascinates my as an engineer.

I discovered SDA in particular after wandering into vids of AGDQ2013 in March, and I've been watching it as the pieces come in over the torrent. I began to wonder, how could I help with the PCF cause, besides just donating money? I used to be very sharp at a few games, but I don't think I could compete on any serious level on them. Then, I saw that there is no current record for the Witcher 1, and seeing Runnerguy shred Ocarina of Time in his Link costume reminded me of my badass witcher costume I made for a convention and thought maybe I could participate in AGDQ 2014. There doesn't seem to be any record for the Witcher yet, but from reading the thread on the game that might be because even a low% run is estimated at 10 hours.

So, maybe that wasn't a very realistic idea. I think I'll just donate at SGDQ. Shadow Hearts for best Final Fantasy.
Hello everyone, my name is Shahasa. Long time gamer, started with a Turbografx 16 when I was just 2 and haven't slowed down ever since. I don't have any posted runs anywhere, nor am I the best at any games though I do plan on buckling down and popping out some speedruns when I get a better computer for video recording and streaming.

Right now my current games that I'm practicing are Darkwing Duck and Solar Jetman, both of which are some obscure games from well known companies (Capcom and Rare, respectively) and I hope to one day perhaps attend a retro games done quick block with either one or both of these amazing games.

Always on the lookout for good games to run, just remember. Ya gotta go fast!

And if there's gonna be a question about my icon, it's a kobold like from D&D. I'm also a huge Dungeons and Dragons nerd and I always play as a kobold if given the chance!
Sup guys, im matrix31337. Im alot younger than all of you but that does not mean i cannot speed run :p. I speed run sm64 16 and ive been working on a 70 star. Ive allways been interested in speed running video games and i hope in the future i can one day perfect my runs. Just wanted to introduce myself :p

Hi, I'm Joka. I'm 27 years old ( Sad )

The first i heard about speedrunning was about 10 years ago when some friends showed me a clip of someone beating Mega Man 2, which I love, in 23 minutes (didn't realize it was a TAS back then). I then tried to time myself and see how fast I could beat it. I think I got something like 45 minutes (PAL version) with strats that included intentional deaths Tongue

Then a few years ago, a friend linked me to Speed Demos Archive and I saw Seth's runs which got me playing again, but only Mega Man 2. I then found some SGDQ videos on YouTube by accident and thought that was really cool. I ended up watching AGDQ 2012 live and after that I started to watch a few runners on Twitch (mostly duckfist :)). When I saw how they trained and how they improved, that's when I really got into it!

Joined SRL at the start of 2013 (didn't really know about it until after AGDQ 2013). Submitted my first and so far only run to SDA in march and here I am Cheesy

I now play a bunch of games, all on the NES. I don't really like competing for the fastest time. I rather prefer being the happy newb who just improved his own runs slowly but surely Smiley .. and does the occational race.
hello hello, I thought it was finally time to introduce myself after years of lurking so here I am Tongue

I am currently speedrunning JRPGs like Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy VI (still practicing though).
