I'm pretty sure this is probably in the wrong section, but I can't figure out which is the proper section for this. If this is, indeed, the wrong section to post this is, I apologize.

For the past while, I've been interested in getting into speed running, and watching SGDQ has made me decide to pursue it! Every speed running stream I've been to has been so welcoming, I love it.

Now, to the point of this thread. I've been trying to find routes, strats, and glitch explanations for various games on various platforms, but they're proving difficult to track down. I was wondering if there's a good place to start looking for such things? I've found some routes, but that's all it is, the route. I've found nothing about how to do the things that make these routes fast or anything like that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not really looking for any specific game, I have a lot that I would like to run, but if knowing specific games is necessary to find somewhere to start looking, I'll be happy to name a few. And again, if this is in the wrong section, I apologize, I'm new to the forums here and having a difficult time navigating them efficiently.

Thanks,
Rob
Thread title:
Generally the discussion topic in the Planning section of the forums, or the SDA Knowledge Base (kb.speeddemosarchive.com) should have that information.
Awesome, thank you very much! Looking forward to getting started, having some friendly competition with people, and maybe even one day pushing my limits and going for records!

Indeed, the best way is to dive into the topic(s) in the planning board for a game you have in mind. If there's no topic yet, feel free to create one.
Runners usually help one another finding new tricks and giving suggestions for improvements to WIP-videos.

Your best bet is probably to pick the game you like the most out of the options you have, and delve a little deeper into that one. It's easier getting into things if you have fewer projects ongoing at once Smiley
Sounds good to me. Thanks very much for the advice Smiley Much appreciated!

Something I recommend to all new runners is to spend a bit of time routing a run by yourself, then start looking around for more information.  Existing strategies can "lead" your thinking.  You might overlook improvements because what you see and read already looks so polished.  Build up your own skills at improvising strategies and digging into games. I never thought of it that way. Good idea, thanks Rakuen Smiley After going through my games, I'm thinking I'll start with Super Mario World and Mega Man X.
