Streets of Rage 2 has been represented at GDQ before, but only on normal and in 2 player mania mode.
Anthopants who holds the current solo mania world record in Streets of Rage 2 with all characters and is the first person ever to finish the game on mania with 9 lives after starting with 1 using no continues with all characters (a feat only 4 other people in the world have done with even one character) is going to be attempting a world record time in mania setting his starting lives on 1 and beating it without using any continues.
A "1 credit run" like this in mania is a feat only 12 other people in the world have gotten even without time restrictions. So he is throwing "marathon friendly strats" out the window and will be going balls to the wall pulling entire screens of enemies at a time going for a world record on top of this self imposed challenge, which he has been doing successfully in his practice runs from what he's told me online.
This is one of the most difficult runs ever attempted at a GDQ event and I encourage everybody to tune in and watch. The enemies in SOR 2 mania are extremely unpredictable and the game involves a ton of RNG with very few exploitable patterns on all the enemies except maybe a few bosses.
It takes true skill to master this game and I assure everyone will be really fun to watch.
