Never give up!
(Message edited October 13, 2005)

Okay.

I've ultimately decided that I'm going to cancel work on this run, and let Mike handle it when he gets back.  My reason is that I've found a different game I enjoy speedrunning more, and my skills are a little too rusty with this game.

Sorry.

My feelings on The Demon Rush
I enjoy raising dead threads like the necromancer I am...or I completed a Metal Slug 5 run in 25:38.  I'm sending it in with my TMNT 4 run.

Yes, it is the usual hard mode, one-life business.

Unlike the TMNT4 run, I didn't get to see much of the development of this run, so I can't give the "Official Suzaku Seal of Quality" on it, but knowing Mike's Metal Slug runs, this one will be amazing as usual.
Congrats Mike!
Never give up!
Wow, more than two minutes below my original projected goal time (which was 27:59, for reference).

I'm curious to know just how you managed to avoid dying against the final boss (especially if the answer is NOT 'sliding'), as well as what kind of luck you got in Mission 3.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
My luck against the mission 3 boss is good.  I get to fully use one heavy machine gun, and use a bit of another.

Of course I slid against the final boss (though it is possible to pull it off without sliding, just very hard)

So....my run is finally up (I sent it with the TMNT4 run).  Feel free to post comments or criticisms about it.

Well, you've already heard my comments, but I must state again:
ZOMFG. The Mission 4 boss was ridiculous. how you can dodge that hail of fire is beyond me. Also, your Final Boss was really good. A bit on the conservative side, but that's obviously needed to keep alive.
Never give up!
I guess letting the more proficient player handle it was in fact a smart idea.

Very good overall, although getting the final boss beaten even in that kind of time sounds like it took 3/4 of your attempts.

The slipups (such as having to jump a second time to get into the Slug in the first mission - I always thought you had to land in it RIGHT AWAY or else it'd be pushed off) are definitely fewer than what's to be expected from most SS runs, even though they're there.

I'd be more fazed by the insane amount of dodging in boss fights if I hadn't seen it quite a few times before in other runs.  It's still impressive, mind you, just not surprising like it should be.
welcome to the machine
Watched it even though I've never played the game.

Looked awesome.  Good job.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Suzaku:  Thanks!  I was being conservative against the final boss because I didn't want to die and start over.

AquaTiger:  Almost any run is going to have minor slipups, even if the run is segmented.  Screwing up the jump into the tank I shouldn't have allowed, but I didn't feel like restarting the run.

I take no offense to how unfazed you were by my dodging.  After the final boss in Metal Slug 4 you can only go downhill from there Tongue

Maur:  I'm glad you liked the run, but maybe you will appreciate the fact this is the worst Metal Slug by playing through all of the  Metal Slug games (gogo shameless plugs).

Let him return from Japan first.  THEN we can worry about asking him that.

Ok, I really don't know where he is atm...
mike uyama is all around us.
100% runs=great to watch
He is omnipresent and omnicient.  Not terribly unlike say Shiva or Brahma.

Another killer run though....amazing how smooth you can make it all look.

Any plans at pillaging the Metal Slug Collection due out for the Wii in the near future if it looks up to snuff?
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Getter77:  Yes, I would love to run through a proper conversion of Metal Slug 1 and X.

Sarou:  I have been one grenade away from a successful run. I will get my revenge on 3 once I come back to America in August.

As I watched this run I felt sorry for the...game. Roll Eyes
Angered Me, You have!
Honest to God, I dont believe this man is mortal. Sick run!
Sleeping Terror
Pretty run. Nice dodging. Needs more fancy boss explosions. I really should play through a Metal Slug game sometime...
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music

I forgot to ask you: is that the only thing preventing a run of X (probably my personal favorite)? As I watched the run for 5, I didn't feel at all bad that I haven't gotten around to playing it since honestly it doesn't look to be much good of a game.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I know which version you'll be playing, lol.

But you just made me realize that two of my three favorite dev teams were at least once most famous for producing games with overly done explosions on the Genesis.

Yes, the port of X is just as bad as the port of the first one for PS.  They even managed to make the music total garbage on a cd system.

Except the first one wasn't bad enough to prevent you from running it. Wink

Glowy eyes of DOOM!
I've been wanting to say this for some time: Mike Uyama is awesome.  This site hosts lots of well-done runs, but Uyama's stand out in a league of their own, even to people who haven't played the game before. Whenever I'm running something and a small slip-up happens, I always think "Damn, that would never be in an Uyama run" and then I restart.  (Well, most of the time anyway; I can't weed them all out because I'm not as good as him.)  You're truly an inspiration to us all.

if we had a wiki, that would totally go under the_uyama_effect. he also inspired the "quality (gameplay)" paragraph of the verification guidelines.
