Including your splits in your submissions

I noticed that the newly published FFIV run has had the runner's splits included on the game page. It gave me the idea to arouse a discussion around the theme of whether this should be encouraged as a general practice? I guess what's happening right now is when people are running the same game, they watch the last submission and mark down the relevant splits themselves, but if the runner had already done it him/herself, that would seem like it saves a tiny bit of effort from every future runner and maybe encourages competition a little more. I'm not saying it should be compulsory, but just mentioning it on the submissions rules page as an idea would be enough.

It's really a runners choice to do this. If anything it gives non speedrunners a sense of just how fast we can do certain things in a run. It's unique to see this and honestly I would probably do similar thing when I do a submission.

I would prefer splits in the run, That way the viewer can see in what areas the run was improved over the last, it also a lot easier to understand then one without. Same as Zewing, I would include them if I ever did submit if possible.

Including images with your run comments is not part of the process at all, but we've been nice enough to do it anyways since the runs where this was requested has been few enough.
If more people started to want to include images with their comments we'd probably have to stop doing it until we would have a better system for it.

You can circumvent this problem by instead just including a link to your splits image in the comments or even having your splits in there as text.

Splits should not be part of the video, but I think it'd be ok to have a supplemental with the submission, separate from the video, to compare how the new run did with the older SDA run.

Splits were never said to be in the video. That's an understood statement when submitting to this site. I think the way raneofsotn did on the FFIV page is a pretty cool idea though I doubt comparing it to the old run would be a good idea. Just the fact it obsoleted an older run makes it enough. No need to rub it in the last runner's face.

yeah i never thought it needs to compare them with the previous run, just for future runners' benefit. and text format sounds sufficient definitely.

oh it's more widespread already? Shocked

maybe i haven't been paying attention. actually i still think there's people who would've done it had it only occurred for them to do it.
