Last time I saw the Mega Man X speedrun, it was clearly using rapid-fire.

You know, there actually ARE people with that button mashing ability...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

That is true.

When I played dynasty warriors 4 or 5 (they're all the same) against a friend we'd duel it out and, when our weapons locked, you'd have to mash a button and the fastest masher wins.  Anyways he could never really beat me unless I was caught offguard and responded late so at one point he put in a turbo controller to see if it would help and I still beat him about the same % of the time (unless of course I wasn't expecting the weapon lock and responded late).:-p

What makes you think they aren't using fingers?
fuck you i wont do what you tell me
if the shots are that fast & uniform and not at the game's limit, chances are they're using turbo.

but I haven't seen the run.  I can button mash faster than the turbo controller I have, so that doesn't matter to me.

Complete. Global. Saturation.
Um... all the guys who have run these games have been with the site for at least two or three years. I don't think that they're cheating. Not to mention that one of them is a moderator and responsible for the verification process and a lot of other things for this site.

And as an owner of these games, I can honestly tell you that they're not using turbo-fire controllers.
The baddle haz jusd begunn!
Megaman X5, X6, and X7 all have built-in turbo and auto-charge on the options menu, as well, if that is what you are talking about.
Visually Appealing
yeah, but you don't get much use out of them in those games. doesn't that option get rid of charging?

i'm sure he's referring to X1. frezyman has the fastest fingers in Sweden.

Well, he is the Swede of Speed. What do you expect?
Talk to the Hand
So clarification:

The rule as it stands now is basically "No turbo, with two exceptions:

A. The Turbo is a part of a system's standard, first-party controller (Example: the Turbo-Grafx 16 controller).

B. The turbo is some type of standard option within the game itself (Examples: Games in the Mega Man Collections, Final Fight within Capcom Classic Collection Volume 1)"

Is that correct? If so, it might be wise to put it in the Rules somewhere (Right now they just say "No turbo, period").

If you look under the rules section, it says:

"Turbo controllers: These fall under 'hardware modification' and aren't allowed. Learn to twitch your thumb without thinking! Players that display very rapid firing in runs may be expected to show video camera proof of button mashing ability."

So, that specifies controllers, which eliminates software turbo as a restriction.  I couldn't find a definition of 'hardware modification' anywhere on the site, but could imply that they are restricted because they are a drastically different input device from the standard one.  First-party turbo controllers obviously are standard ones.  But, yes, it could probably use some clarification.  We could just make everyone do every single run with the Power Glove.  While it is worn, of course.
You can ask Mike, Frezy, Ekudeht, Trevor and lots of others to record a video of their button mashing if you like.
I don't even know what the fuck this is
sup dude

If you do something to your hardware so that it is not as it once was, you have modified it. If this happens to provide an advantage to your gameplay that you would not experience using other hardware, you have just committed hardware modification. I can't really imagine any other way this could be defined, although I do agree it should be written there to be foolproof.

None of my GCN controllers are Nintendo ones, they're all various offbrands since my friend basically gave me his extra GCN and four random controllers out of a massive stock in his closet. Two of them have turbo functionality. I can still use them for a speedrun as long as I don't use the turbo buttons, I think... but I would rather just use one of the other ones so there's no disputing. Ah yes, and I modified a PS2 controller so the LED inside is a yellow orange color instead of the stock red one. My original intention was to paint the outside of the controller's housing like swiss cheese. Never quite got around to that. Still speedrun legal, I think. So yes, you are dead-on by saying "drastically different", awesome way to describe it.

Like Tiki I also published a video for prooving this. But Somehow that link got lost. I´m planning to show a new better one later. I´m working on it.

Tikis Youtube video is the best one for the moment. Its a pretty good video even if the youtube quality sucks.

The best would be also that the player really shows when he turn on the console and that the consoll and controller is shown the hole video and other proofs that no cheating is used. Though, tikis video is almost enough.

I myself have a few, real time friends that have been posting here during the years. They all have seen me playing. And everyone is always welcome to sweden and I show how to play these games =)

Yea. During the years I have been here my fingers have been faster and faster. My first Mega man 3 speedrun didn´t include as fast fingers like many speedruns today today Smiley

Also other old runs like Uyamas SNES X3 speedruns. I think he shoot pretty much faster today too.
yes, a man carrying a gimp
I think this is just the classic case of some loser kid who sucks at a particular game accusing the person of cheating because they don't know how to play like that.

I love when people put money where their mouth is.  Awesome video, and hopefully the guy who accused MM speedrunners of cheating is more impressed than bitter.

The video reminds me of this:

Which was posted in a similar vein (and looks similar too).

Turbofire controllers in a megaman game (well, any MM after 3 that is) would be a damned stupid idea; after all, how would you be able to choose between charging your shots and spraying them out?
Fucking Weeaboo

Actually, you'd shoot them so fast, you wouldn't NEED to charge.  Except bosses, but then you'd just turn turbo off for those.

Yes, but in the runs the players charge up constantly while sprinting around; what did the thread's creator think, that all the megaman players were possessed of an extra thumb that could smoothly transition between autofire and regular fire?

Heh. Isn't that a funny image... do you think that having an extra thumb would be against Nate's rules? Or would the run be labeled "Third-Thumb Equipped"?  Grin

Does someone know a motherfucking webpage where you can test how fast you can push a button (mouse button, keyboard or whatever)? Would be fun to try. I would own all of you motherfuckers.

rofl. i could probably do 20.
