Remember when I, James Hardaway Dudley, posted the forum topic "NO Nintendo DS Runs!"

Well...that run you did a while back was pretty poor, and you did not post any runs after that. But I got a successful idea that will knock your socks off!

You can take a capture camera, like you did with ALL of the other runs, and record the screen where everything's happening. For example, you can record Kirby Squeak Squad on the top screen, and Mario Kart DS, too! You can also record Kirby Canvas Curse on the bottom screen, be sure to edit out the stylus, however.

For some games, like space invaders extreme, this idea won't work. You can say, "Oh, well," for those games.

In the author's comments, depending on the game, give a quick view on the bottom screen! Just make sure it doesn't take too long!

I have been watching your speed runs for a while now, and I'm glad at what you did!

Goodbye, and keep the DS idea in mind!

From,
James

Thanks for an entire new thread explaining this. A simple PM to whoever your talking to would have a been a ludicrus idea.

First of all you can't edit the stylus out. That's too much work and also the video doesn't technically allow you to remove layers.

If Space Invaders uses 2 screens and doesn't involve any Stylus work, then that is still possible to capture by filming i sideways.

We all know this, Metroid Prime Hunters used this method and it's been up on SDA since Late 2007. Where have you been??

That's where he's been.

I don't think the OP realizes just how hard it would be to edit out the movement of a stylus in a speed run. Not only is it extremely difficult to edit stuff out of videos in the first place, but since speed runs are fast, it'd be even more difficult to edit out the stylus' position. On top of that, the stylus is taking part of the screen away, so if you "edit it out" you're going to have empty space of the screen wherever it was edited. Bad idea.

So James, where's the innovation on new DS runs in your post? The MPH run is the closest thing to capturing actual DS video (there's emulators but there'd be tons of lag making the run ridiculously hard to manage or even actually be fast) and afaik Greenalink has a SM64DS run in the works to be added to the DS run collection. So we've already figured out how to capture the video and record audio separately instead of over the air.

Also, SDA is a community, not one person.
