...But I don't know how.

I've been wanting to record myself playing games for a long time now, considering I have a gaming site and can use video for it.

Problem is, I'm clueless how to.

I was wondering if anyone here can tell me how. I just don't want to use ROMS, I'd like to record from the Console itself

I'm willing to buy some stuff if it's not overly expensive. I'm new to video, but I figured I might need a jack and a program to record. I'm probably wrong, that was just my guess

Any help is appreciated, thanks!
Thread title:
Forgot to mention a few things in that post, sorry for the double

I did read the compression/recording faq, I just didn't understand it completely.

Also, I'm interested in recording gameplay on my computer, whereas I could edit it in Windows Movie Maker and export it as a .wmv

Actually, if I need a new program, that works as well, but I have minor experience in WMM, so that's why I said it

Record it on VHS. And as for uploading it on your PC, no clue.

And I doubt sending edited runs is allowed.

Edit: Besides, no WMV.

If a DVD recorder and Amplified Signal Splitter isn't overly expensive for you then it's worth getting. The quality will be very good.

Don't use wmv if you plan to submit anything to this site.
I don't....as said before, it's for my own site

You need a capture device to put what you recorded to your computer.  I have no idea which ones are better, but here's a few: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=1423

I got a cheap one, and it shows, as the quality is abysmal.  how much you want to spend probably matters.
i recommend either the ati all-in-wonder series (if you also need a new 3d graphics card) or otherwise just the tv wonder elite (the elite part is important) for the best quality. the tv wonder elite is pretty cheap, less than $100 iirc.

of course, the best way to capture is always with a dvd recorder.

I was looking at the TV Wonder Elite, and I was wondering, how do you plug in the sound? Do you plug it into the sound card directly? I have an external capture card, and on my capture card, you plug in the sound directly into the capture card. I don't see a mini stereo jack on the TV Wonder Elite, so how do you connect the sound?
there's supposedly a way to route the sound through the card (you plug it into the same purple dildo thing you plug the video into), but it never worked for me, so i had to use my sound card instead.
