Hello, everybody.

I am Mab, and as of early this morning I am the legal owner of Games Done Quick, LLC in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

That fact is extremely problematic.

Last night I decided to use Virginia's LLC search functionality to learn more about the corporate structure of Games Done Quick, LLC and Mike Uyama, LLC. While Mike Uyama, LLC is validly registered and currently active, the status of Games Done Quick, LLC was set to canceled. This made me curious, so I used the state's online functionality to check if the name Games Done Quick, LLC was distinguishable. It was. So I went through the steps to form an LLC, used the name Games Done Quick, LLC, paid the $100 registration fee, and that was that. I am now the legal owner of Games Done Quick, LLC in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Your website uses the name Games Done Quick, LLC in its privacy policy in a couple of instances. This is extremely troublesome because the LLC's status was canceled prior to my new registration this morning. Where is the registration money going and in whose account is it being held? Perhaps it is in possession of Mike Uyama, LLC. This would make the most sense to me, but I think it's important for everybody to understand this, and I believe everybody who is donating has the right to know who is handling their money. It certainly couldn't have been Games Done Quick, LLC, because, as said previously, that company's status was canceled.

I'm here to do the right thing and to hand over the LLC to its proper owners, which should be Mike Uyama. We both live in the same city so I'm even willing to meet him in person about this. I still want to attend the event, though I understand if my actions will lead to a lifetime ban. That said, I really hope this serves as a bit of a lesson: you should always make sure your LLC is validly registered and active, otherwise incidents like this can, and will, occur. Though I really do want to state my concern once more: Who was responsible for holding onto the current registration money if the LLC was not active?

Thank you, and I hope you have a great day.

Talk to the Hand
Just posting here to note that I did a bit of searching after seeing this, and the story appears to check out--Games Done Quick LLC was registered as of 11/22/15 to (What I'm guessing is) madbulra's real name.

I'll leave it up to you what you do with this information.

EDIT: The direct link doesn't work for some reason. It's trivial to find, though, just search "search llc in virginia" in your search engine of choice, and it's a few clicks away from there.

Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.
Your LLC is actually not the same name as ours, and as such it's not valid for the purpose you intended. We're already working to reinstate ours (which would have no legal repercussions once finished). Mike was the only one who knew about the lapsing, so I haven't been able to take care of it. I recommend you email me immediately, mabdulra. mattmerkle@gamesdonequick.com

A followup post:

I wanted to make a few things clear:

1. This sort of action, regardless of intent, will henceforth result in a permanent ban from our events. This is in addition to any legal remedies we may have to perform. The correct action is to notify us directly, privately. We have contact information available on our website.
2. Our LLC was never mabdulra's, as even an expired LLC retains its ownership for 5 years, and can be renewed without legal penalty.
3. After talking with Mike, he had attempted to renew this at the cutoff. There was a hold-up in the process, but is being resolved with some guidance from our lawyer.
4. The lapse in the LLC has no legal repercussions to the business as once you restore the LLC, it is considered active going back to the cancellation period.
5. This lapse would have no affect on donations, as again, the LLC does not accept donations on behalf of the charities. The charities receive money directly.
6. We have a trademark on Games Done Quick. Attempting to use Games Done Quick for other business purposes can result in litigation.
