The Camera Obscura had no effect
I have a general quesiton about segmenting. Let's say I have a segment that I complete in 7:30. I get pheonomenally lucky in it and everything stacks just perfectly, but I make an embarassing error that costs me aobut three seconds. Say after several retries my second fastest segment of the same part is 7:35, in which luck still favors me pretty heavily but not quite as much, and I don't make any particularly painful errors. Would it be better to keep the 7:30 one, since it is ultimately faster, or would it be best to keep the one that looks better even though it's not?
Obviously I'm inclined to take the shorter one, but I don't want to get my run rejected because I made a really stupid mistake, even though the luck of the run outweighs it by a lot.

You are supposed to keep the 7:30. If your main drive is getting on sda and you are afraid of rejection you can keep the 7:35 and try to trick the verifiers (but that's not true right?).

If you can still try more you would keep trying until you get (at least) a 7:30 that looks better, if you tried so much you are fed up with the game and wont run it anymore you keep whatever best you got and explain that in your comments, and um cross fingers Cheesy

If you are still afraid then show both, the good looking and the fast one, that could help prove your point (that you got lucky), I submit the fastest but in the meantime upload to youtube other attempts, they can be used to show that it's not your first attempt, that could work here, they would be like bloopers, except they are the second, third, etc best times you ever got. But also, define several, because if several is 5, 10 or 20 it is a little number and so is 7:30.

Verifiers will be more strict on segmented runs, hope you chose your segments well. Your run shouldn't be rejected for one segment though, but if it is only one more reason to try to get it looking good.

Speed > Appearances.

That's the bottom line. If the verifiers know anything about the game they'll realize that luck went phenomenally well, and will be much more inclined to look over that mistake.

Concentrate less on impressing the verifiers and let the speed of the run do that for you.

Though the best alternative would be to retry until you get phenomenal luck AND execution.
welcome to the machine
I'd honestly rather see a run without mistakes than a run with great luck, but I know better than to think the latter wouldn't obsolete the former.

Okay. I'll definitely keep trying to get luck to bless me again, but if I can't beat my current best time I'll go ahead and keep this segment, warts and all. Thanks for the input, guys! I appreciate it.
I had a similar issue with one of my segments, but the mistake cost around 6 seconds. Although, I seriously doubt that any verifiers would have known of the trick I had meant to use that would have saved the 6 seconds. After hours of retrying, I decided to just say in the comments "I got phenomenal luck and a super fast time despite the error, and after hours of retrying I couldn't get a better time."

I would go with the speed. If your mistake is really that bad, you could challenge verifiers to beat your time on that segment. When they realize how good the segment is even with an error, I'm sure they won't reject over the mistake.
