Is this the right one then?

Most say HDCP passthrough after all. That is bad I guess

Should be the right one, right?

Yes, yes it is (because eBay is informing I've already bought this item - and it strips HDCP fine). Wink

Interestingly enough I used the splitter for about 10 hours today and had no issue on my TV end. The black out issue I had earlier must have been Intensity Pro related.

Really good splitter tbh.
Found one that is not HDCP compliant, asked the seller and he said it is not - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261266571979?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I asked like 20 sellers about it and only one said no and although the UK one posted above seems to work, it says it is HDCP compliant so I rather try this one first and then I will see.
Its cheaper too.
thethrillness.blogspot.com
They have to say it is HDCP compliant or they break the law and risk jail. That seller is telling you lies. You can't exactly return it because it enforces something the protocol is actually supposed to do.
AlphaStrategyGui des.com
Also, it's being shipped from China, you have no recourse (unlike buying from somewhere that ships it from inside the UK as you then have the legal 7-day long-distance selling regulations on your side, allowing you to return any goods bought online for *any* reason.
We'll see. I will report back + the seller seems trustworthy. Why would he lie? He simply does not mention the HDCP at all in the listing and when I directly asked him, he said it does not enforce/use it... Seems legit to me. Stop with anti-Chinese stuff, I have had only good experience with Chinese products [hope this one won't thereby let me down now]
Also from what I have read, HDCP is not an enforced technology, therefore it's up to the seller/manufacturer to decide if they want to implement it. [They don't have to mention it at all].
If it works yay, if it doesn't well, will have to buy the expensive 40 quids splitter above...
thethrillness.blogspot.com
Andrew was not bashing the Chinese product but the shipping issue.

Maybe you will get lucky and it will not enforce. I would rather just have 100% certainty of working.

Also what do you mean £40? It's £27.

You may as well buy that same Chinese product here if you want: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x2-Port-2-Way-HDMI-Splitter-Switch-HUB-3D-HDTV-DVD-PS3-XBOX-SKY-Blu-Ray-Laptop-/221260966524?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item33842e6a7c

Can't as they don't ship to EU.
Also that other splitter  27£+15£ shipping

I haven't read the whole thread, but just in case it wasn't mentionned this product seems to bypass the hdcp and this guy uses it to record his ps3. It's not better, but a bit cheaper.
It says it has HDCP but it is quite a bit cheaper than the UK one [which says HDCP as well]
I wish someone could test any of them as there might be new stock which doesn't work anymore.

A lot of these are UK-only, are there any that will ship to the US that people know work? Would one shipping from outside the US even make it, or be stopped by customs?

I have also seen people mention using something like FRAPS to record because even some of the HDMI strippers fail when the device they are connected to is actually recording. Would these also fail on a stand-alone Gaming DVR that doesn't require a PC to record?

The Sewell company is based in the US so you can order direct from them: http://sewelldirect.com/Sewell-HDMI-1x2-Splitter-v13b.asp

Or go the Ebay route: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.Xsewell+1x2&_nkw=sewell+1x2&_sacat=0&_from=R40

If you need more than 1x2 the 1x4 is on Ebay US with slightly different branding: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CVID-1x4-4-Port-HDMI-Audio-Video-v1-3b-1080p-Splitter-Adapter-for-HD-TV-PS3-3D-/360465484464?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item53ed6acab0
Can someone help me out? Is the ViewHD 1x2 still stripping? The chatter really died down on it, but that would be the easier to get right now for me considering sewell doesnt ship to hungary from either amazon or ebay.

Didn't the Sewell ones get updated long ago to no longer strip HDCP?

The stock I got in late June still stripped fine.

I've actually had a surprising amount of personal messages asking about these splitters so I'll try and sum up this thread below.

Originally the Monoprice converter was used to strip HDCP: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011405&p_id=5369&seq=1&format=2&ref=cj

It however requires a HDMI to DVI cable and a Toslink cable for audio.

It was soon discovered that a certain design of HDMI splitters would strip HDCP and was far more convenient (no extra cable mess from DVI and Toslink etc).

Many splitters do not work but the most popular versions that as of writing still strip HDCP: ViewHD and Sewell (both 1x2 models). They look like this:

ViewHD: http://i.imgur.com/MZocKYi.png
Sewell: http://i.imgur.com/Fqoxf3H.png

There is also a 1x4 splitter I have which also works. It has "HDMI 3D SPLITTER 1X4" on the top: http://i.imgur.com/NeIFgEJ.png

The 1x4 also goes under the name CVID BG-550.

The only ViewHD source I can find doesn't ship to Sweden, and the only Sewell source I find including the company itself ships only to US/CA.

Gits, the lot of them. It's ordering the monoprice solution from HDMI AND MORE or going eBay for those of us on mainland Europe.

I bought the ViewHD Mini Splitter from amazon.com. When you click on "more buying options" you'll see that it's either sold from J&R Galaxies and shipped by Amazon (US only) or sold and shipped worldwide by J&R Galaxies.

I payed a total of 20,14€ back in February (13,18€ + 6,96€ shipping).

That was back in February indeed, they don't offer to Sweden right here today. I've got a Mastercard CC.
you can get viewhd on ebay with shipping to sweden

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ViewHD-1x2-HDMI-Splitter-v1-3b-One-Input-to-Two-Output-/270641169821?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3f0378859d
Thanks for hopefully putting an end to the Sweden and Monoprice post on every page !!

In other news the ViewHD has 2 elder brothers now a 1x2 4K (ASIN: B00AL61OOO Item model number: VHD-0102N)and 1x4 4K support (ASIN: B00AKZCUEO Item model number: VHD-0104N)

Amazon link is same http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004F9LVXC/ but just need to hover over the 1x2 and 1x4 and the thumbnails beneath those or search via the ASIN or Model Number. Anyone try any of these yet? I think unlike the Siwell elder brother this has a great possibility of working.

By the way apart from the one post here claiming ViewHD ones got allegedly updated, any other source verifying this claim?

Any idea if this one is still the version that strips HDCP? Nearly all of the ones on Amazon have been updated to a version that does not, even if they look exactly the same. And that looks just like the one on Amazon right now.
