Hello everyone. I have a "Hauppauge HD PVR V1" (with YpbPr in/out only) since a looong time and I'm starting to think that I'll need to change it for another box when the PS4 will be released because any of the bypass methods comes with a YPbPr cable (like this one : http://dx.com/p/hdmi-male-to-5-rca-rgb-audio-video-av-component-cable-1-5m-length-70520 )...
So my question is : is it possible or not ?
This is the *dream* setup that I think of :
-> HDMI Cable > LCD TV PS3 Slim > Sewell < -> HDMI 2 YPbPr cable > HD PVR V1 > PC
That won't work. You would need to convert the digital signal to analog YPbPr. Transcoding isn't that hard and I guess you can find a converter for ~50€. But at that point you might as well just buy a new capture box that can capture HDMI.
From the first look, yes, that should work. But it will most likely lower the quality a bit.
I've got the Elgato HD, but there's also the AVerMedia Gamer Portable. Both should be fine to record 480p, 720p (at 60fps) and 1080p (at 30fps) but fail for older consoles.
OK thank you very much blizzz, I think that I'll go for the AVerMedia Gamer Portable + the Sewell HDMI Splitter (as long as I find someone in UK who can buy, sell and send it to me u_u )
An alternative is ordering the monoprice solution from "HDMI AND MORE" on Amazon, if you have a credit card or other solution they accept. They were the only ones shipping to me in Sweden, should be fine with France too, but I have a spare of these Monoprice devices, I live in Sweden and will be able to sell it to you later this month if they confirm during GamesCom that the PS4 isn't using HDCP protection during games.
It'll have to use HDCP if it's allowed to play Blu-Ray movies. My understanding is that it's part of the license remit for having Blu-Ray movie capabilities.

Yup! Makes me wonder how the Xbox One is going to fare, being able to take in Pay-Per-View and whatnot through its HDMI in, it ought to get HDCP locks for that like some cables boxes do. Stated to be usable with todays capture devices in gaming mode but I still wonder.
I believe the PS3 got stuck at constant HDCP due to some hardware limitation, no reason the PS4 should carry a constantly active HDCP.
Thanks to AmaRecTV causing constant BSOD's on my PC (an average of 3 per hour), I've bought a TV for passthrough and thanks to the Pro requiring Media Express open to pass the signal to the TV I've also stopped using that. I've hooked up my Elgato to my Sewell splitter/stripper and I can get a picture working on my passthrough TV now without needing to open the Elgato software. Granted, I can no longer use lossless codecs, but f*ck it, I'll take 1080p60/30 support and a reasonable 30MBps recording rate over ballache and hassle.
I wouldn't say Amarec is the problem. I was getting BSOD's when I was closing the program with the BMIP as the source (the BMIP doesn't clean up sometimes) which causes the BSOD.
I'd use Amarec with a different video source to ensure it isn't the BMIP doing that.
The Pro doesn't do it with Media Express open (tried repeatedly with ME and couldn't get a single crash). Only happens when AmaRec is started. No matter, PC is all set up for the Elgato now.
Ran into a very peculiar issue with both the 1x2 and 1x4 splitter.
Connect PS3 HDMI directly to TV = Works. Connect PS3 to splitter and output to capture card = Works (I see video in Amarec). Use passthrough of capture card to TV = No signal on TV. Use two outputs of HDMI splitter to capture card and TV = Capture card works, TV does not. Use 360 HDMI through splitters and then through capture card passthrough = Works on capture card and TV.
Leads me to believe there is sometimes some form of HDCP with the splitters. I do wonder if my new capture card is messing it up and reinforcing HDCP or something. I'll have to recheck with the BMIP later today.
Edit: BMIP was fine but fixed other way to. God that was weird. I had to like just connect the TV to splitter by itself which worked and then I connected capture card and then transferred the TV input to my capture cards passthrough (just as a test I will directly connect via splitter). All fine.
also i would like to know if the one i previously linked is the cheapest working hdcp stripper if it isn't please can you tell me where i can find one that is cheaper and works which is based in the uk.

You don't want a HDCP compliant device. That means it enforces HDCP.
I can tell you right now that Neet splitter will not work. It's just a lottery buying 1x2 brands. That is why I said to get the 1x4. It is guaranteed to work.
I am trying to figure out which HDMI splitter to get to remove HDCP from a source in the USA. It looks like the ViewHD splitters are all compliant now. http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Port-Powered-Splitter-1080P/dp/B004F9LVXC Are there still any sources of splitters that strip HDCP?
