Wondering the same thing...
Maybe Camstudio or fraps...
one-armed bandit
I use fraps 2.2.5. (www.fraps.com) I think it's the best you can get Shocked
Precursor
Might as well ask here...

Okay, so I got Fraps to try it out. But how the hell do you actually RECORD with it?

Set the video capture hotkey and simply press it when you want to record  Sad

Oh, don't bother - the problem was that I didn't know how Fraps actually were working. I thought it just captured whatever happened on the screen. Apparently... it didn't.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
are there any that a windows 98 user could use?
I am on win98 too and camtasia and fraps are running fine on. the only problems are that my fps while playing are going from 60-75 to 2-8 when recording with fraps, in addition of writing dozen of Mos's for every 6-8 sec of game, and with camtasia, the slowdown is less important (the game is still playable), but the movie is without sound and flickering, like watching a very old cartoon Sad ...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
My fraps stops recording after like 30 seconds for no reason. :\
maybe because your harddrive is full, or because you hit the start/stop record hotkey while playing ...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
HD definitely isnt full, and my hotkey is F10, which I don't press during the game. :\
Mumma
Heh... There's a good reason. You're using a demo version of Fraps. Fraps isn't free software.

The demo version has the limitation that it can only record 30 seconds each time.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Is there any free-software equivalent of fraps?
Jack of all Trades
Camtasia is good for a free 30 day trial.
I hear that older versions of fraps are free.

I've been experimenting a little with Camtasia, and so far, the only way I can record 30fps without slowdown is by recording uncompressed.
My problem now is that Camtasia drops lots of frames. Sometimes it records perfectly, but during some periods, the frame rate of the VIDEO drops to 1-2 fps, but when I was playing, it was fine. Is my hard drive too slow? I tried defragging, but it didn't seem to help.
