Hello,

As I'm sure you can tell by my post count i'm a first time poster on this particular forum. I have been following the speedrun community for quite some time now and i have come to the conclusion that running a few games might actually be fun.

The first that sprang to mind when pondering was hotline miami.

The questions are:  does anybody currently run the game? Would the game be interesting to watch via stream?

Now I'm no veteran to this game, infact I've only fully finished it the once. I was thinking about setting up a stream where viewers can watch my progress getting faster and faster and discovering new things along with me, I'd also really like to generate some competition maybe inspire more people to run hotline miami in particular.

As previously stated this is my first ever post on this message board so if i have posted this thread in the wrong place/Broken any of the rules or just generally done something bad please let me know and i will rectify it as soon as possible.

I've done like 10 runs on my stream. I think my best time was 39:xx including the extra chapters.
Depending on what run you want to do you'd either take Brandon for max speed in a NG+ or Tony starting at Chapter 3.
Other than that it all comes down to finding fast stage strategies.
The run had quite a few deaths and I even picked the wrong mask in one of the stages so it should easily be beatable.
I'm looking forward to what stage strategies you will come up with. Good luck!
I might stream some Hotline Miami next week so feel free to stalk http://www.twitch.tv/exosda
Good, It's nice to know the game is already being picked up, As far as startergies I've been looking at the masks and some do seem very useful, I guess just picking which mask to suit a level would be the key. Yeah i'm looking forward even moreso now knowing I already have potential competition!

I shall definately check your stream out at somepoint thank you very much for your feedback.
I've been toying with the game myself, and I'm probably going to start streaming myself running it. Fun fact: You don't have to do any of the after mission stuff at the movie rental place or the pizza parlor or anything. You can immediately get back in your car and leave after arriving.
I lost mine
"I don't think that exploit(skipping the post-mission chats) is viable for a single segment run of this game. It seems too risky." -Aftermath while falling asleep.

But really I also have been attempting runs of this game and every run dies randomly on a different level.
Clear as a crisp spring morning!
wgbbanzaii/banzaii (http://www.twitch.tv/wgbbanzaii) just completed a 32:13 run today, which as far as I know is a record. he didn't record it other than the twitch archive though, so it's probably not submittable quality.

The run starts shortly before the 5 hour mark in this twitch archive video, and ends at 5:26:15: http://www.twitch.tv/wgbbanzaii/b/363382130)
Duke_Bilgewater has 31:35 in the end of this video:

Wgbbanzaii, Pykn, and I run this game. I think Wggbanzaii has a 31:50 currently, and my current legit time is 29:50. I got a run that clocked in at 28:40, but the game crashed at the 20-minute mark. Restarting the game and starting from the next mission took longer than it would have to play from the point where I crashed, so I just need to replicate that time without the game crashing.

Both these times are at the end of this video, I think they're the last two or three runs: http://www.twitch.tv/duke_bilgewater/b/368073829

It's nice to see that someone came up with (nearly) the same strats that I found over time.
Looks good Duke Smiley (and sucks about the crash :c )
Good luck with getting a similar run while Hotline Miami behaves.

Thanks, I'm gonna need the luck for the game to behave for once.
Routing this game is really intuitive. I think everyone's sort of gravitated towards the same strats.

Lately I've been working on doing new game runs and I need some help with a ruling.
In theory you can start the game directly via level selecting the metro (intro stage) which skips the mission briefing for it.
I'm not sure if this should be allowed or not.
If the SDA-timing starts as soon as you get control in the metro then I guess it doesn't make a difference at all.
Can't really decide this on my own though so I need some feedback from you guys.
.
If there's no reliable ingame timer, manual timing starts when you gain character control, so skipping the briefing doesn't make a difference there.

You gain control of your character before that though, not at the start of the metro mission. Timing starts when you first gain control of your character in the tutorial, you can't just start a minute into the game.
.
Alright you should probably explain how the process of starting a new game in Hotline Miami works then. I haven't played it. >_>
My feelings on The Demon Rush
I don't see anything wrong with selecting Metro instead of selecting new game, since you just play through the rest of the game anyway.

Well the tutorial gets skipped via right-click and after that there's just the mission briefing which is kind of like a forced 2nd intro where noone gains or loses time anyways.
Would like some more opinions on this though.
Skipping cutscenes via level select is used for every stage in a new game run so doing it for metro as well doesn't seem all that different.
