On a related note, what about marijuana while gaming? I heard once that it makes you mellower, less anxious and thus less likely to go on tilt/choke, but I don't know if that's the general case or not.
F*ckin' sanity effects...
Hey Patashu, I think I'm the only one who's addressed that so far upthread.  While it's relaxing, for me personally, it probably makes me too foggy and slows my thinking down too much to be "useful" for running.  Probably varies per person and per game, though.  (Once again, legal by state law here in Washington state, but the feds haven't really weighed in on that yet.)
Balls jerky
I Game Over'd in SMB 1-3 after consuming like 3 or 4 beers. Apparently I get rly bad at games. Not that I was any good at SMB to begin with, but I mean... it's 1-frickin-3.

SMB3 is impossible while drunk.  I am convinced.  I have never beaten it while drinking.

Tried racing chip n dale after drinking a few. Don't know how many times I just randomly walked off a ledge instead of jumping.

@Patashu and Uilnslcoap: Count that as addressed in my general post about everything further up. While THC has different physiological effects than alcohol, which means that other stuff might be easier and even different stuff might be harder, the general effect should be the same.
There's an xkcd comic about drinking while programming. In my opinion it's good for pretty much any aspect of life.

I think this also applies to video gaming skill

But I wouldn't know as I don't drink.
@tiburonCS
I wouldn't say drinking makes me better at gaming. It certainly helps me have fun though! Cheesy

Alcohol adds physical latency but when it hits just right, it makes everything a smoother process. Like it relaxes mind, muscles and nerves. If I'm not the only one to ever get drunk or even crunk in that calmer cooler and more collected than ever manner then I need to meet with these other people and drink with them.

Three glasses of actual absinthe work like alcohol, with the effect of waking up in the morning going "..I set a WR in WHAT?"
I lost 18 hours because of absinthe one weekend, went from polishing my glasses at a party in a rough area to waking up safe and sound at home.

So if you like the challenge of games like Ikki Online (PS3 via Japanese PSN), get some peculiar bottles from seedy shops in Prague's less-wandered shopping areas and get beasting.

I hope so, at least 3 of my runs depend on me being very slightly hammered, like 2.87 more drinks than my optimum levels for pool

I have a friend that went total god-mode in Street Fighter IV while he was drunk.  I've never played intoxicated, yet.
I feel so bad for just drinking water... always... since the past 2 years...

My dose of alcohol or caffeine come monthly in the form of a soda or something.

Never felt better :).

I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I bowl perfect games in wii sports.
When I recorded my Syphon Filter run, I know that at least one segment was done while I was drinking beer, I wouldn't say that I was drunk, more like relaxed since I only had 1 or 2 beers in me, but that's about the most I could drink before I start to mess things up due to slower reactions and laughing (or cursing) to much when failing Smiley
As a few of you have said, there's a definitely a fine line. I've been doing lots of Dark Souls PVP lately, and after a few drinks I can usually get myself into a super-focused Berserker mode. A few too MANY drinks, however, will make me pretty careless and sloppy. That perfect middle ground, though, can definitely give birth to some wacky new strategies!

I may or may not have cracked my mother-in-law in the back of the head with a full-armed swing in Wii Sports' tennis, on account of a bottle of rum Tongue
Depends on how much i drink haha.

I'm just going to reiterate what everyone pointed out like a broken record. Your reaction time is going to diminish.

I love a few brews and some hardcore gaming, it puts me in a fantastic mood. But when speedrunning for seriousface, it's about the same as being on a horrific angry tilt (execution-wise).

I think drinking just makes me not care that I'm doing poorly more than making me play better, which could be good if you're looking to have fun but not so good if you're trying to actually accomplish anything lol
Execute.
Alcohol and fighting games have never mixed for me. I'm sure I've tried other genres but nothing comes to mind so either it wasn't notably different or I just didn't care.
