I was digging through my new PC's box the other day and found some games that came with it. One was Hitman: Contracts and it turns out to be pretty fun. There are multiple ways to beat each level, which could make speed running fun.

I ran through level 1 as quickly as I could. After watching the time on my media player, it appears that cutscene factors into game time.

Hey. I can help you out with strategies if you want (since I've beaten the Xbox version 4 times).

Good luck if you decide to go through with this, and remember to check out Hitman Forums (should be www.hitmanforum.com).

There are some very good players over there, and you might learn something cool. Grin

[Edit]: I watched the movie, and it was very good. I don't get how you managed to do that without your cover being blown though. It must have been the difference between Normal and Professional.

Congratulations on the perfect Silent Assassin rating and time. I'd love to see more of these.  Grin

Thanks for the tip.  I'm surprised how active their forums are!

I finished level 2. I worked really hard creating a stealth strategy, then realized it's quite a bit faster to run and gun. Besides getting stuck on a door or two for small amounts of time, I'm pretty happy with this run. I loaded the map for a split second to make sure the lawyer was in the correct spot, sometimes he wanders.

thing about hitman is, if you want to do a PROPER speedrun you need a silent assasain rating on every level. Not blasting your way through like on that second one.
I tend to agree with David. but not completely. If you've seen the splinter cell 1 speedrun you know what I mean - he goes around a small structue for just "dropping" a character and not have to kill him - I think it takes more than a minute. Not only that this is boring, it is also stupid. I'd prefer also Silent Asassin _if possibile_ being an Asassin is not worth having antoher 3 minutes to watch.
The best I guess would be to offer two versions - 1 bashing through the guards and one with sneaking - if needed. Eg. for the first one you don't need to versions if the stealth method is as fast or faster than bashing.

ps: your first parts were amazing, looking forward to see more Smiley

Thanks for the comments. I think I'm going to go for a pure speed run first, then I'll start working on a stealth run. I completely agree that the proper way to speedrun this game would be stealth, but it's much more entertaining to beat the maps as fast as you can with guns blazing. I'll be working on the rest over the next few weeks, and stealth will follow after that. I've already beat the first two videos' times by a decent amount, so look forward to them.. or try beating them!
Hey. Since you're doing a speed run anyway, I'd say to play on Professional (more impressive too). You don't need to save anyway, but there are two problems I can see with this though.

First of all, a "pure speed" run would be hard, since the enemies are a lot tougher than in Normal mode.

The other problem would be that in a perfect rating run, guards are sometimes way too paranoid. Bjarkhov Bomb and The Wang Fou Incident are good examples of that.

You're right, pretty much any level can be blasted through rather quickly on normal. It's all a sense of knowing where to go and what to kill. Professional will also force me to be sneaky (hopefully not painstakingly). I've been testing out some methods, and it looks like it'll be a challenge, but should  prove to be entertaining.

Level 1: This is the fastest I've come up with after 50ish runs. Most of which I died. I wait a few seconds for the first swat to run in, which allows me to avoid 3 of them while killing the other. On the way down the stairs if you kill one or more, you can usually run past (check out my health!). Walking out the front door isn't an option, because you'll be rushed by another team and then hit by a sniper. The spiral staircase is hard to run up fast, so I pause a little bit to make sure I'm centered. I'll get working on level 2, but it's going to obviously take much more time to perfect  Grin

Just got done with my last final, so I'm going to go get smashed.

Level 2 on professional: First, you can sometimes glitch the weapon search by stopping right in front of him. This time save doesn’t matter though, because the butcher leaves his room at roughly 1:15 game clock. To kill time, I go and grab the waiter’s uniform and then run back and wait for him to leave (otherwise he kills you in two hits and you can’t pick up the evidence). Next I sprint to the opium counter and grab the pipe. I wait for the other waiter to leave, and once he’s about half way across the room, you’re free to jump in. I place the pipe down for the lawyer, and while he has a smoke, the other guest leaves. I kill the lawyer and grab his weapon. I ran up the stairs to the fat man and shot the guard in the head. If you’re lucky, only a few nearby guards will notice. I then run into the fat man’s room and kill him, then run like hell to the exit. The escape was extremely easy; normally I’m being shot at by 3-5 guards in that stairway, but got lucky on this run.

That second video is very fun to watch. What I liked about it, until the last 20 seconds, was the fact you did everything stealthy. Much more exciting that way for me  Tongue

Hehe thanks. I'm working hard on level 3, but there won't be a whole lot of stealth.

Scenario 1: wait for delivery boy to come, steal his clothes (~1min). Poison soup and wait for him to hit the can (~4min). Follow guard to train (~2min).

Scenario 2: Kill the first guard, steal his clothes/rifle. Run inside cafeteria and pop Fuch off (and the ~10 guards that follow), then sprint past the train. This takes about 2 minutes total if I get lucky enough. It's incredibly faster to do it this way, but extremely difficult to perform without dying on professional difficulty. I've tried this method about 30 times, and I have it down quite well. The rest of the map will be stealthed though, since it's much faster.
Nice work. But forget about the stealth man, if it's faster to run and gun, that's what you should do! It is a SPEED run after all Smiley
Hey. You could also do what I do, which is this:

Get rid of the extremely annoying civilian, take his clothes, run in, talk to the dude, make the fireplace guard look left, wait for the patrolling guard to leave, fiber wire Fuchs, drag him into the bathroom, and take his clothes.

Sadly, this won't work when going for speed, unless you can find a good way around following the guard's lead (possibly using the fiber wire on him as well).

Also, for a first uniform, you could run out the front side of the plane and to the control tower. Go down and get rid of the guard, then use his uniform for your bidding.

That way, you could try planting a car bomb and then going about your business (completing objectives while waiting).

Your “distract the guard and kill Fuch” suggestion made me look for other ways to kill him. Eventually I figured out that you can race him to the building and wait for him to enter. If you close the door behind him, you can kill him and the bodyguards won’t see. After that I run to the spot where the bodyguard walks by and the door closes. If you don’t move, he won’t be suspicious, and if you run at him, he starts to turn around. All this is possible only if you get lucky and no other guards enter the building (took a lot of retries). From here on out it’s pretty straightforward. I had a little inventory mishap at the end which cost me a few a few seconds, but otherwise I’m happy with this run.

Level 4: I love the non-linearity of this level. First I sprint along right wall and get behind the guard before he has time to turn. I steal his clothes and shotgun, which allows me to run around unnoticed. Closing the doors in the barns allows you to shoot the stable boy and steal his key without the guards noticing, but it has to be one shot or he’ll scream and alert the guards. After that I grab the gas can and enter the house. I “calm” the showering maid, sneak my way across the sleeping wife’s room, ditch the gas in the secret room, then finally stealth-kill the old man. Next I toss the gas down to the furnace killing the son. After that it’s the always fun escape.

Level 6: It's amazing how much time can be shaved off this level by manipulating lazy programming. You're supposed to get a SWAT suit much later in the level, which triggers the actions of the NPCs. But if you get in the suit right away, it skips all of the cutscenes and goes straight to the final event of the level. You won't have to disable the bomb or even get on the boat. It took a while, but this is a run I'm proud of Smiley

It's actually "getting" but his accent perverts the word. It doesn't help that I hit ESC half way through the pronunciation either Tongue

After sniping, start off by running into the pool and grabbing the x-ray room pass off Fuch's corpse. Run up to the 2nd floor and take out the bodyguard, which will make someone run out of the room letting you bypass the unlocking. Run in, startle the fat naked Fuch, then take him out in the hallway (this reopens the locked door). After that, sprint to the bomb, then escape.

Nothing big about this level. I just had to find the quickest sniper spot.
