Mega Marby!
I'm sorry if this is either a (Noob) post or a repeat, I searched the forums first and I couldn't find what I was looking for.

Basically , I don't have anything or know how to record from my televsion so I'm using emulators to do my stuff.
Now, With ZSNES I know how to make a video and then record it with fraps. that's all though.
Soon I'm looking into doing one with VisualBoy Advance. And Don't know how to make that work,

Are there any other good recorders for this sort of thing?
Basically I'm looking for a guide to recording somewhat not related to games on my television just the emulators.
Thread title:
Fucking Weeaboo
Emulators are NOT allowed*.  You'll need a real console to do any and all runs.

*The only exeception is for "official" emulators.  For instance, playing Metroid as part of Metroid Prime is acceptable.

Mega Marby!
Then how do you do that?
How do you record stuff from your television and get it on your computer?

ESPECIALLY A Gameboy Advance?!
Fucking Weeaboo
I know we've covered this a bazillion times on the forum (including your other thread).

First buy one of these.

Attach on one of these.

Plug it all into one of these.

Or this.

When you play on the cube, set the border to where there is none (20 I think?) and set the filter to sharp.

And if you own a real Gameboy, you can use one of those GBA to GC cables so you're using your GBA as a controller.

Oh, and Sir_VG left out the part where nate captures the run for you if you don't have a DVD recorder or a capture card.  Record to VHS and send that in to nate and he'll capture it as long as it's a run for this site.  It's highly recommended to get a DVD recorder because the quality will be excellent(with an S-Video cable that is), but you don't have to.
and don't forget to set the screen size on the gbp to normal (along with the filter sharp as sir vg said).

Alright, thanks for the info, when I get the money I'll look into this.

But I'm going to spare using a nother thread and ask the question here.

I understand now that emulators are forbiddened and exiled here but I'm still going to make a run on my emulator for some friends that want to see (basically a demonstration of the game)

Now... As I've mentioned before the only way I know how is to use Fraps + a full screen emulator like ZSNES

But this is Visual boy advance and it's done in a window (And looks horrific full screen anywho)

How would I record this if fraps can't detect VBA?
Are there any other recorders that can record this somehow?
Fucking Weeaboo
VisualBoyAdvance can make its own AVIs.  I've used it before, however I got horrible sync with the audio/video.

What you can do if your friends also have emulators is to record using the emulator's built in recording feature.  This makes small files that are recordings of your button presses.  Then all your friends need is the same emulator (if you use ZSNESW 1.36, your friends need that as well), the ROM (make sure it's the same version or the video may desync), and that ZMV file.  ZSNES, FCEU, and VisualBoyAdvance all have built in recording features, as probably lots more emulators.  Look through them and find what you want.

Mega Marby!
Thank you for the advice Sir, My friends don't have the emulator, well at least I'm not sure I'll talk to them about it.

The only thing with ZSNES that i've ever known since I'm not fluent with emulator recording is that I can record using the Other > Vid Rec option I belive and Just do a simple record to slot 0 and then Use fraps to get it, beacuse I don't know how to convert the ZST or ZMV or whatever it's called to AVI, I just have to use fraps to get it  Tongue Smiley

Audio sync isn't my most crucial concern right now as long as you can See what's going on is what's important, I guess i'll use it to make the avi and then host it on filefront for my friends to download. I'm glad at least even though you guys don't allow emulators, you still respect them and know how to use them Smiley

Do you guys use the emulators to practice first before you go on the big screen to record?
Fucking Weeaboo
I'm sure a lot of us do, but it depends on how well the game is emulated.  It does give an advantage for practicing because you can use save states to repeat a tough section over and over again.

Mega Marby!
You were right about the Audio sync... Is there a way to fix that >_< Hehe. Or any other methods of recording this?

If not it's really no big deal.
Fucking Weeaboo
I don't know, but given that there are people doing emulation recordings, maybe it would be better to ask them.
just use match video framerate to audio in virtualdub. but actually if you're getting sync errors that probably means you're using an oudated vba. get the latest from tasvideos: http://tasvideos.org/forum/t/2050 it doesn't have the cpu clockspeed/lag problem the older crappier vbas do.

Thanks for the help Cheesy
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
Recent ZSNES (as in way more recent than 1.36 heh), as well as most/all of the supported emulators at bisqwit's, can make avi's from within the GUI. I think you need MEncoder for ZSNES; I haven't actually used that feature before.

Vampire Killed
Sir_VG, About the whole "using Gamecube", how can I get rid of the "Z button: Options"-message? I bought my GB-player as a demo product, so I didn't get a manual. Thanks in (Game Boy) advance.
lol, why him?

that message is cropped off during encoding. for more about how to record with the gbp, see the faq.
Vampire Killed
Since he posted the picture and all that stuff, I thought he could know the answer.

Yeah, I've read it, and set filter to sharp and frame to 20 or whatever, but I was kind of curious how to get rid of that message.

Thanks.
ah yeah maybe i should put a note in there about that. it turns out it doesn't cover the game picture at all, even if it looks like it does. go optical illusion.
