Help me decide what game to buy next

I'm addicted to games

Hi SDA, I have a problem. I'm addicted to games. It says so right on the left. After attending AGDQ I am even more pumped to play games than usual... who knows, maybe I'll try a speed run?

Anyway, before I get into the decision I'm trying to make, I thought I'd give you a list of things I'm _currently_ playing first.

Games I acquired recently, am actively playing, and haven't finished:
Fallout New Vegas
Assassin's Creed 3

Games I play often and may never quit:
Final Fantasy 11
Rock Band 3

Games I acquired more than a few months ago (sometimes years), don't play that often, but still think I'll finish them:
Fallout 3 (99% done here, just a few things left really)
Final Fantasy 13 (trying the 'all items' achievement...')
Final Fantasy 13-2 (like 153/160 fragments)
Kameo (not touched in a few years)
Mass Effect 2 (still need to see some plot lines)
Mass Effect 3 (ditto)
Pokemon Black (reached the Elite 4 and couldn't beat them, got tired of grinding)
Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands (not touched in 6 months)
Sacred 2 Fallen Angel (not touched in a few years)
Super Mario Bros Wii (up to world 7 at 100%)

Games I've finished before, but have been replaying recently just because I want to:
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
Chrono Trigger
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Secret of Mana

Games I have in my possession already but haven't played:
Chrono Cross
Dragon Age Origins
Fable 2

And here's the list of games I'm considering buying now, despite all the above:
Donkey Kong Country Returns - $30, I liked the original DKC 1/2, does it compare?
Final Fantasy 9 - it's only $15, the cheapest of the FFs I haven't played yet (7/8/9)
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - I haven't bought this yet because I need to get the silly wii motion plus, making the total about $60
Portal 2 - only $22, close to an impulse buy for a 360 game, I played the original as part of Orange Box
Resident Evil 6 - this has rapidly dropped in price to $30 which makes me think it's no good? I thought re4/5 were ok even if not "true" resident evil.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - $44, the original was pretty fun. I played it through twice to get 241 stars or whatever it was.
Tales Of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - still $50 but I liked the original a lot, plus Vesperia on 360

So, SDA ... what do you think of my dilemma?

Definitely go for Skyward Sword. And Portal 2 but I'd say get the PC version if you have a computer that can run it.

If you're looking for other suggestions than the listed ones I have nothing but good things to say about Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Okay, almost nothing.

Well, I can tell you straight away that Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World is a horrible, horrible game that you shouldn't get. I loved the original as well, and this one is nothing like the first game when it comes to quality.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a wonderful game, and if you've enjoyed the first one, this one would definitely entertain you. The game is quite similar to the first title, but extremely well polished, and with a lot of nice, new features. Can certainly highly recommend it, though I am quite sure you can get it for less than $44.

Portal 2 is pretty nice, too. If you really enjoyed the first game, you'll like the second one, too.

Resident Evil 6 is a fun game, but it's not a Resident Evil game. As long as you keep that in mind, you'd probably have some fun with it.

Or you could always go back to speed running Metroid Prime Wink

You poor thing. Definitely get Skyward Sword regardless of what accessories you need. That game is definitely a must have. Also Super Mario Galaxy 2 is definitely a fun game (mostly due to yoshi being in it). Portal 2 co-op is fun a hell too.

Dragon Age is a great game and you can put a lot of time into it. Can never go wrong with any Final Fantasy or Legend of Zelda.

Portal 2 is a must purchase. And if you can only afford 1 or 2 games, the 2nd choice I think is FF9. Granted you're probably spoiled to it now that we did it for AGDQ. Tongue

Speedrun Kameo, that game is pretty cool for running and I've thought about doing it myself but I would probably receive (more) endless derision for running a Zelda game.

I AM FUCKED ANGRY

Secret of Mana, brilliant atmosphere and story, but very long to learn for speedrun.

When you ask for DKC, I do not know, the best and last DK games was DKC all parts for snes and the parts for the GB systems DKLand. I love DKC1.

I hope your heart will go for more than 'try' to make speedrun. Wink

I would suggest The Last Story, despite it not being on your list of games. It was only 40 dollars new at my local Best Buy, and its a fun game that you can play with the classic controller.

Of that list, I'd definitely check out Portal 2. JackInTheBox has a point, tho- Last Story is a great surprisingly-not-actually-Final-Fantasy at a good price that may appeal to your action-gaming inclinations as well.

As far as I'm concerned, V through to X were the best of all the Final Fantasy series, so I'd say get IX, play through it, love it, then grab copies of VII and VIII as well Wink

I can recommend Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast to just about anyone who likes a good action game. It's from 2002 but has very good graphics considering its age, has a good story and acting, and most importantly it's just insanely captivating in my opinion, particularly because of the combat. While it's true that it's over 10 years old, it just remains a timeless classic to me. I believe you can buy it on Steam these days, and probably for a very low price so maybe this would be something to check out. Smiley

Thanks for the comments all, I think at this point I'm going to go with Portal 2... but you still have a day and half to influence me. I figured I'd buy something this Wednesday so the two day shipping gets it to me Friday. Then, weekend of video games, woohoo.

I suggest ff9 it seems like something youd enjoy

I also always reccomend to nayone to get portal 2. Its clever, fun, great design, and plus it has a time attack-esque mode for each map (for your inner speedrunner :P)

There's a lot on your list that's good, but if I had to pick ONE, the one that was the most fun for me that I'd gladly replay in a heartbeat was Galaxy 2. In fact, I might start replaying that tonight now that you've made me think about it.

Heh dballin, I probably will get them all eventually. But I've found that trying to go for completion on more than three games at once is really detrimental, especially if the games control schemes are too different.

DKCR is my personal recommendation from that list of games. As always, Retro Studios does an amazing job of taking the original game and improving it. It maintains the same feel of the original but with innovations that make it feel like a new game. Think Metroid's transition to Prime.

FF9 has a very slow opening (for casual play, not speedruns). So, if you choose FF9, don't get discouraged by the opening. It really picks up after about the first 45 minutes or hour, and plays at a really good pace for the rest of the game.
