I can beat this game in about 4 hours, this was just my very first practice run, I can try and do it quicker, but, if I did do a speed run on this, is 4 hours a decent time, because if not I can plan out a whole lot more.
Thread title:
............... .......
I have this game on the Gamecube and I'd be interested in seeing a speedrun. I noticed a Harry Potter game on the PC in the speedrun list, so I'm sure this would be accepted.

Just do your best planning a time efficient route and do a good job executing it. I don't think Radix will accept a half-assed run.
MGS for PS1 forever.
I have already done a Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets run for PC...I just haven't uploaded the video to Radix. My total time was less than 1 hr 30 mins. However, I do know that the differences between PC and PS2 are vast...including different levels and many other things so it would probably be considered an entirely different category.
............... .......
Yeah, if the PC has entirely different levels from the Xbox/PS2/Gamecube version, then it should be considered an entirely different catergory. If I remember correctly, 1 hour and 30 minutes is too fast for the console versions.
Ok, well, by plan out a whole lot more, I meant I could try and experiment other really odd things...that are...odd. And I have another question, when I'm recording, if I save to end a segment or whatever, do I have to reset the game to? Because, all the speed runs I've seen, when they stopped a segment they reset too...so, yeah.

And yes, 1 and a half hours is way too fast for the console ones, I guess, I don't have any ones other than the PS2 ones, and the loading times and cutscenes make less than 2 hours just about impossible...I'm pretty sure there isn't, but is there anyway to make the cutscenes go by at least a little faster? So many questions...

Fiddling with a lot of odd stuff that might make the run faster is good. Why wouldn't you do it?

And how do you know if the runners reset after a segment? When the segment ends, the video end, so you sorta can't know what happens afterwards. Also, if they do reset, it's probably to try to make that segment faster. Wich is good.
Well, I'm doing a practice run right now...that I'm not so proud of yet. And on the runs that I've seen when they reset, the next segment starts with them loading the file or something. But, on this game, reseting will cause me to have to load again...which can take a while, and probably make the run a little slower...but, I'll try experimenting a few things...

And another question, I don't have to win the house cup, do I? Because...right now, it's not looking so good.
OK, I have finished another practice run at 4:05...

But I made a whole bunch of mistakes, dying, getting mobbed by bludgers, going out of my way to get a second potion vial I never used, dying, getting caught by a gazillion prefects, falling off the the bookshelves 6 or 7 times, getting completely turned around once or twice, dying...this was a really bad practice run...

Anyways, I can do a whole lot better than that, and I have one last question...the timer usually stops when you kill the final boss, right? Does that go for this game too, or do I have to go into the great hall on the last day of term?
give me your eyes!!!
The timer stops when the player no longer has control of the character.
Great Hall it is, and it's OK if I don't win the House Cup, right?
give me your eyes!!!
Does it affect time?
Well, yeah, seeing as I have to get more points to win.
... oO;
The house cup would probably be best for 100%, but I don't see any reason why you would HAVE to win it otherwise. Winning it would be a bit more impressive though Cheesy
give me your eyes!!!
If it affects time and you're looking for the fastest time possible, I strongly advise you practice until you can do it and make your run, well, fast...

Please note I have never played this game before, I'm just making comments that should apply to all games (no that does not mean in all games you should win the house cup).

That or he could do as well as he could to help the other team score for the purpose of helping it end sooner; it might even be entertaining...   Roll Eyes
Well, you should do a multi-segment run it will pay a lot more!!Avoiding errors like falling from the bookshelf and stuff like that.
Cause if you are doing a single-seg maybe it will contain more dump errors.
I am doing a multi-segment run, there's like...5 I think. Even though the House Cup would be impressive, it's a little too complicated to do it within the time limit I have set for myself, plus it's just frustrating. I can guarantee I'll win the Quidditch Cup, but that's not as impressive, anyone can do that.

I had started another practice run I think...yesterday, but I stopped it because I had a horrible time in the Expelliarmus challenge, I died like, 3 times in there, which is just plain awful. But other than that, I had been a little faster than usual, which is good. I plan on working on it this weekend.

And one last question that doesn't necessairly have to do with this, but, when I send the tape in and I want it back (I have read the submission FAQ, it was just a little confusing), I have to pay for shipping there and back, right?
I think you have to pay, yes!
But anyway it's worth paying the shipping for these guys
Look at the damn good site they did man!

As for your speed run
PRACTICE A LOT Wink
give me your eyes!!!
Oh crap, I've just realised what you were going on about. My brain figured the House Cup involved flying where you either win or lose, not something based on collectables.

Therefore I take back what I said, ignore the house cup, this is a speedrun! Grin
Ok, I'm gonna do another practice run later today, and maybe another tomorrow, and then, maybe the actual thing tomorrow too. MAYBE.

As for the recording, should I record on EP or SP? Because, I've heard a lot of people say to record on SP because of the better quality, BUT, I only have one tape to use, and the run is at least four hours, and SP can only do two...and besides, my VCR is old and...stupid, so I think it's stuck on EP anyway...

-----------------
Ok, I've done another practice run, and it came out to be 3:48, so...I think I'm gonna do the real thing tomorrow. Should I make it more segments, like...one for each different chapter thing (or whatever they are)?
Ok, now my question is, after I record it, where do I send it too? I looked everywhere on this site and couldn't find a single address or anything. And what's the deal with the comments? After the run is verified then are you asked to make one or do you have to send it in or what? I'm so confused...
What Huh? Shocked
Already finished!!!
Yo did you work on that one or just record with all the mistakes youve done!
A speedrun have to be worked it isnt just :
Okay im doing this one today and i will send it tomorrow!

Think twice before sending your VHS to RADIX(when is online)
You just have to pm radix
give me your eyes!!!
For submission, check the relevant faq and it will tell you how to contact Radix.

Give him all of your run details (game, name, estimated time, date finished, contact details) and he will tell you where to send it to, this is to nate.

Every run has a commentary and they do not go up until a commentary has been made. This can contain as much or little info as you want / deem necessary. Again, the commentaries are sent to Radix, he will give you a ftp address.

Simple!
Oh, well I thought he gave out an address on the site, but that would be kinda stupid, because you never know what people will send in...

And no, I'm not done with the run yet, I started doing the actual run today, but I seem to have made a LOT of mistakes when I'm recording...I'll have to work on that.

I still have some things to work out, like, getting past the prefects a little better (I always manage to get caught at least once...every time you have to sneak by) and some other random things.

And I just recently figured out that we have a whole big store of blank tapes, so, if I can figure out my VCR (I've had this thing for years, you'd think I'd have it down) I can set it to SP and make people happy.

And I also read somewhere (I don't remember where) that this site marks segments when you save, whether or not you continue playing or reset...so, that means I don't have to reset, right? I hate feeling like I don't know anything...
