So um, I'd like to see what you guys' opinions are. I don't know how to treat the RPG style CVs as it really depends on how high on level you are, but I'm assuming to be at a somewhat low level (or at least not overleveled). For me the best is either Dracula X/Rondo Of Blood or SOTN, easiest SOTN, and hardest... hmm well most people will probably name one of the classic ones, but IMO some of the newer ones like OOE, COTM and DOS are pretty difficult especially on higher difficulty settings. If Haunted Castle counts as a Castlevania game I'll go with that, though it's not really hard.. it's just totally messed up and unfair.

Btw, I'm a bit confused about Rondo of Blood right now, apart from the turbogfx 16 version which platforms is it available on now? There's a PSP version in 3d and also the classic 2d version on it and it's on VC, right? Is there an official version for PC? Did it get ported to something else?

Cigar Man
Castlevania II (NES) might be the hardest.  Try finishing that one with absolutely no external help.

Castlevania III (NES) is probably my favorite, but there's nostalgia involved, so I can't be objective.
berserker status
I really like SOTN the best even though III and IV are really, really close behind.  In terms of difficulty, yea I'd agree the 2nd one was pretty tough if you didn't know what to do.  SOTN is also really easy.  It's hard to die in there unless you're going for a low level run or something.

It was originally released on the PC-Engine (the Japanese Turbo Duo) in Japan.  It was included with Dracula X Chronicles on the PSP (and included crappy subtitles and some loading differences).  It was properly ported to the Virtual Console (the US/Europe versions used the opening audio from the PSP version).  Those are the only versions of the game.  You could play the PC-E version on the PC though Magic Engine, but that is unofficial emulation.
destroy them with lazers
i dont have much experience with castlevania yet (working on it) but from what ive played i found bloodlines to be the hardest and funnest and SOTN to be the easiest

Don't forget to play Haunted Castle. Though it isn't called Castlevania, it still stars a Castlevania character Tongue

Btw what would also interest me, which of the newer Castlevanias do you think is best? GBA + Nintendo DS and stuff...
I would say that Aria of Sorrow is probably the best of the handheld CVs, with Circle of the Moon and Dawn of Sorrow being very close behind.
Master-88
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow is maybe easiest to beat. Also Castlevania 2 simon quest if you know how solved all troubles. Otherwise game is maybe hardest.
Im not never are played any really hard Castlevania games but Dracula curse is maybe most challenging especially on NTSC version. PAL version is a lot easier though.

Maybe best games on series are:
Castlevania Dracula curse & Super Castlevania IV. New Castlevania games i liked most Portrait of ruin & Aria of sorrow. Hard to say which is best.
I AM FUCKED ANGRY
The best Castlevania game was the series of the Nintendo Game Boy version of part two.
'Castlevania II Belmont's Revenge'
This was really a great game and I love it. But my copy was broken. for over 15 years ago I was so perfect in this game I had play a ss without death.
But this is long time ago.

The third part of the GB version was boring without fun.
Worlds collide.
Order of Ecclesia with a level cap of 1 was pretty challenging. As far as "Hardest" is concerned, it's a tie between that and Haunted Castle.

Circle of the Moon was a breeze difficulty-wise, if you make full use of the DSS cards and kill every enemy between you and the next boss. And even if you don't spend the time collecting cards and grinding enemies, the bosses were easy enough to slay with nothing more than the trusty whip and cross combo.

Favorite game for me is III: It was a blast back in the day replaying the game taking the different paths and recruiting the different characters.
I thought that COTM was the hardest game, although I haven't played any of the 3d ones or older ones. I found OOE, AOS, and DOS to be really easy, although POR was hard for me to beat because I had no clue where to go.. Another one I found really confusing was HOD, and even though it was really easy to beat the bosses I spent a really long time trying to beat the game (however, I was around 8 when I played it)
Formerly known as Skullboy
As much as I love SOTN, I think it's the easiest, even when not grinding or if sequence breaking. Well, it's the easiest if you play as Alucard. Richter is a bit more difficult.

COTM gave me the most trouble and just seemed to be a grind fest. The bosses were easy but getting to them was hard. Of all the CV's I've legitimately beat, this was the hardest.

DoS is the most balanced of the ones I've played and beaten. A bit hard, but not enough to cause problems. You just have to retry a few spots on occasion.

SOTN is my favorite, followed by DoS then SCIV.
oh ****
WHAT????? POSTED ALREADY? NO SIGN IN OR ANYTHING????
Did i misplace my sexy? I think not
I would  definitely say Castlevania I was hardest. If you know what your doing then Castlevania II Simons quest is the easiest. In my opinion Super Castlevania IV is the best. I like the classic Castlevania's the best and i felt this game perfected the original Castlevania style.

It's weather time!
I would have to split this up between classic and Metroidvainas. I'm not including challenge runs like Low% or level 1 hard mode OoE.

I would say that Dracula X would be the hardest classic game for me due to the horrid level design combined with the worst hitboxes in anything ever. Plus, a final boss with bottomless pits everywhere to top all of the BS off. OoE would be the hardest Metroidvaina game for me personally, at least I remember having trouble on some of the later bosses.

The easiest would most likely be SotN or AoS as far as Metroidvanias. I found CV IV to be the easiest classic game, not including Vampire Killer on the MSX (the only game I know of where EVERY boss is completely stopped by the stopwatch, including Dracula).

The best classic game would be Rondo for me with SotN being my favorite all around.
2 would be the hardest if playing the first time. Back when released, there was no internet on cryptic clues on where to go. Nintendo Power saved the day on that! Easiest would be 1. Best, still IMO is 4.
Meteor Swarm
Easiest - sotn and maybe japanese III with Sypha (blue balls of things).
Hardest - Chronicles (not the remix but the MSX version) .  I did most episode of this saga (except simon's quest) and this one gave me a lot of troubles.
Symphony of the Night is the best Castlevania. In fact, I'd say it's the best video game, ever.
Clear as a crisp spring morning!
My own favourite is a toss-up between SotN and Dawn of Sorrow. The hardest I've played is Castlevania III. Easiest? Either Castlevania for being short and simple, or Dawn of Sorrow because of how much I've played it.
Easiest - Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Hardest - Castlevania 64 (That camera was atrocious)
Favorite - Circle of the Moon, Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow
