I think i found a solution for you.

My version is throwing a grenade through the window to let him open the door.
It works everytime, if you place the grenade right.

Lmao, how goes it, Wuzzi? =P

Nice shortcut too. I've always been curious about that area, to tell you the truth. I think the optimal way to take on that area, would be to take out all the hornet aliens in whatever way you find to be the fastest, cut the segment, and of course give this trick its own segment. You could shoot out the window from a ways away, then do a little tau boost to get there faster. Or, perhaps you could throw the grenade from far away, then tau there? I don't know, but using the tau very slightly could give you a few needed seconds. So long as it doesn't damage your tau plan, Spider.

Speaking of that, what are you going to do after you perform the grenade hop? Are you going to tau down that hornet alien hallway, or are you going to tau to the area with the three scientists?

Thanks wuzzi, I'll have to give the window toss some good attention.  That was actually how I first discovered this, shooting a mortor through one of those windows.

I don't think getting to the door/window in time is a problem as you need to wait for the scientist to open the first door, animation included, before he can run.  Unless your trying to get him to open the back door first then open the first door, which might be faster.

The thing that makes this all so challenging is that you must load before this level in order for the scientist to open the door.  So my segment will start just before this level, then end just after he opens the door.

After the grenade jump I'm going to the scientist room, the 20 cells makes it a faster choice, the health, something like 40, is also nesesary.

I discovered that you can stop the scientist from activating the first retinal scanner (the door opens anyway) by "using" him throught the wall. But as soon as you enter he will walk to the retinal scanner although he wont activate it. I found this to be a problem when want him to run to the second door. You may not enter the room until he opened it or else he will turn back.
Well you can use the scientist through the wall, step up to the door (activate his scripted sequence) and enter just when the door opens.. but the I had problems getting him to run from the grenade then.. and my HL crashed so I gave up Smiley

Haven't posted some demos in awhile, so here you go:

http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=90F4AEF446E6F463

One glitch in We've Got Hostiles. I haven't seen it before, so whatever. After I completed that, I tried to get G-Man into the elevator, without much success. That could have lead to a bunch of interesting glitches, such as getting him to float, pushing him out of the level, etc. etc. But yes, no success there =(

The rest of the glitches are in Surface Tension. Some triggered events getting messed with, plus a couple weird glitches. Lmao @ demo 18, I gave him a nose =D!

Right now, I'm trying to see if it's possible to freeze the blue robot while he's dying with tripmines. If I could do that, I could freeze him as soon as he does that huge spread out thingy. That would be fun. Anyways, enjoy ^_^;

Thanks for trying to Radon.  What I found that worked best was throwing the grenade through the window from the ground, then killing the last alien.  The toss had to be very precise to work with any consistency, and I found I couldn't kill the last alien too soon after the toss or the scientist would stop running too soon and get damaged by the grenade, making you game over.
Nice tricks PoCari.

I especially liked the ones with the car. Glitchy glitches. I did the g man thing ones. Anyhow, nice. Smiley

I've been searching the control-room thing in animaolous materials. I once had the glass of the door glitching to me. When the door opened, the glass closed. When the glass opened, the door closed. I didn't record, though..

I liked the two wheeler myself ;-D

Double post/test post. I'm submitting a huge chain of documents to a website on everything we've accomplished here. We'll obviously accomplish more ( or just Wuzzi will Wink ), which isn't a problem, since I can update the list whenever possible. Here's the rough draft of what I kinda want the document to look like. I have a lot of editing to do, so it's far from perfect obviously, but here's kinda what it looks like. I'm writing it in wordpad, and will edit it accordingly for when it's ready to be put on the website. So I'll change all the "documents" and stuff. No biggie. Anyways, referance post for SPJ:

Half-Life tricks, glitches, and tricking essentials

Written by: Scott 'J4L' Angus (or PoCari if you wish)

In this document, I'm going to explain some of the general techniques you need to master before you take on Half-Life tricking. Stacking satchels isn't particularly hard, so you aren't in for a rough ride, trust me. I'm going to give a list of all the tricks and glitches that myself and others have performed and found. I'll be going level by level, giving a name to every trick and/or glitch I can possibly think of, then I will provide a small tutorial which you can use to recreate said trick and/or glitch. Some particular tricks (glitches mostly) are incredibly weird, random occurances. For these, I obviously won't be able to provide you with a tutorial, but you can atleast stare in awe at your computer screen at our inspiring glitching majesty. I'll try and stay as organized as possible Tongue

Basic Essentials:
Explosion boosting
There is many weapons in Half-Life that are blowy-upy, and hence forth awesome. Damage boosting can come from almost all of these weapons, except for the rocket launcher, unless you find it practical to perform a normal jump whilst loosing a bunch of your health. These are the weapons that you can get some real practical boosts out of:

Mortors (secondary fire on the SMG)
Grenades
Satchels

You can do boosts off of tripmines, but they are mostly for jumping on themselves, not boosting off of. They aren't practical for a number of reasons. For one thing, they take a couple seconds to set up (which are precious in speedruns), and you can just use a mortor to go higher. The only use they may have for boosting, is boosting off of five of them, plus five satchels. More on that later. Anyways, performing a damage boost is really quite simple. For mortors, you simply aim at your feet, a wall, a little behind you, etc. etc., and jump as soon as you shoot. This will propell you MUCH higher than a normal jump, and can be abused to get to such places as on top of the communication tower by the helipad in Surface Tension. For grenades, I always hold them for more than three seconds, aim them wherever I want to on my screen, and jump as I release the mouse button. If you hold a grenade for more than three seconds, it'll automatically explode as soon as you release it. Satchels are very straight forward. Throw it somewhere, jump as soon as you explode it. But there is a trick to all of this: Health.

When you're doing damage boosting, you want to watch your health. If you have let's say, 100/40 health, and you're trying to perform a mortor hop, it just won't work, because with 40 suit, you're too heavy. To get the most height possible, you want to have your health right at 100/0. That's for grenade hops and mortor hops. For satchels, it's a little more tricky (hell, I haven't even mastered it yet). They are MUCH more powerful, and will obviously turn you into ribbons if you jump off them wrong. It doesn't really matter how much health you have for satchels, they'll give you a significant kick either way. If you have low shields though, you'll want to jump when you're a little ways away from the satchel. This will give you the necessary boost you need, and guarantees that all your vital organs stay where they should. Maximum shield you can have for mortor hops is: 100/30, if you want to get a decently high boost. Maybe 100/25 is better. For grenades, I'd say around 100/20. For satchels, it doesn't really matter/it's hard to say. You'll just have to fiddle with it. I would suggest mastering mortor hopping and grenade hopping before you attempt satchel boosts.

Oh, and just a small note. When you're performing explosion boosts, make sure you do a crouch jump instead of just a normal jump. For some reason crouch jumping makes you go a lot higher. Here are a few examples as to what explosion boosts should look like:

Mortor hops:

Firing the mortor

Jumping when this happens

The height you receive

Grenade hops:

Holding the grenade

Releasing the grenade

Jumping before it explodes

The height you receive

Satchel boosting:

Satchel on the ground

Detonation

Distance

That ends the basic essentials ._.;

The rest of the basic essentials would include floating stuff and freezing stuff, but when those type of tricks come along in this document, you'll learn how to do 'em right then and there. Speaking of that, you'll want to read from Black Mesa Inbound, all the way to Nihilanth. This is because I may explain how to float stuff in Unforseen Consequences, and when a floating trick comes along in Surface Tension, in the tutorial I'll say something along the lines of, "screw you, I've told you how to do this already." You're welcome to read ahead onto levels that particularly interest you, but don't come crying to me if you don't know how to recreate the glitch and/or trick. I'm a busy man, can't keep saying the same thing over and over again =D

I would love to give credit to the right person for each of these select tricks and/or glitches, but it's hard, as I can't remember who did a lot of them. Some I can remember clearly, but others... Unfortunately I'm going to be leaving credit out for each individual glitch, but I will however give a long list of the Half-Life tricksters at the end of this journey, or whatever you want to call it. They will know what tricks they did Smiley

Now, without further ado, here is the long list of tricks and glitches that you've been waiting for:

That's what I have so far. I may add in tutorials for tau boosting and telling people how to distinguish skyboxes from other things, etc. etc.  But anyways, I'm working on my Hazard Course document at the moment. Meaning, the document is finished, but I'm demoing each of the tricks so I can get pictures of them all. Tedious work, but it'll be worth it.

You talk like the armor is weighing you down, as if it's the direct reason you don't get as much of a boost.  In fact, your boost is directly proportional to how much health you lose.  The reason you don't get as much push when you have lots of armor is because it causes your health to drop by less.
Your almighty lordship
Which is analagous to being heavier.

I didn't really know how to write that out properly, I just figured armor made you heavy. But that was well put, thanks Engy. I'll be sure to edit my stuff =P

EDIT: It is still in the editing process, and nothing will be finalized for awhile, so yeah, thanks for pointing that out.
Don't think!  feeeeeal
In my OF comments I wrote, "The boost you get from an explosive is proportional to how much health (not health and armor) you lose."

Might want to also explain that by having armor, for every 5 health points you would have lost if you had no armor is changed to 2 armor points and 1 health point lost.
XXY
Damn... you guys are ownage o_O;

Strange how I actually knew all that stuff (just remembered when you guys typed that all out), but instead I wrote about how heavy Gordon is... I'm weird. Personally, I don't think there will be much need for going too indepth into explosion boosting. I'll probably break down and say something along the lines of, "just have 100/0, and you'll have fun :-D."

Fun fact: I still have your OF run on my system, Waffle. I watch it from time to time. It scares me.
I have 10 gigs of speedruns on my computer. Including all of the HL runs. (and Halo runs).

5 tricks in there. Nothing incredibly weird.
I'm a Half-Life runner ;)
How did you get the Voltigores through the metal things, acxy ?  Tongue
I just pushed the barrels to the place where they are supposed to spawn and tada Smiley
I'm a Half-Life runner ;)
So you "noclipped" through walls and skipped the trigger and placed them there where they suppose the spawn, then runned into the trigger ?  Tongue
Nah. See, picking up a grenade in that place is the trigger. I just walked there, saved, picked the grenades up, and watched where those alien slaves spawned. Then I loaded and pushed the barrels to the spawning places. I picked up the grenades, and those alien slaves spawned into the barrels.
I'm a Half-Life runner ;)
lol ok

Haha! The alien slaves were the best part =D!

For some reason that trick seems so familiar to me, I think my friend Andrew might have shown it to me a few years back, but I can't remember. Maybe I'm just thinking this because I just watched your demos o_O;

Cool stuff, acxy.
