The Mayan calender ends that year, its the end of the world! We wont be able to watch the speed run!

My guess still stands,  in 3 days.

And yes, I will say that tomorrow too.

noooooooo!!!!

I mean:

lim ln (x-1)/(x-1)
x->1

lol
The outcome is basically the same, but yours looks much more professional  Grin

You do realize that's undefined for all x, not just as x -> -1

It's more like:

  lim                                1
x->0+              x

piece of cake!
here, for my limit, it is 1+
and we should take the |....| limit^^
Existence as you know it is over
wait, so is it ln [(x-1)/(x-1)] or is it [ln(x-1)]/(x-1)?
Edit history:
tagh_azog: 2006-10-24 01:25:02 pm
piece of cake!
the second, and it is |ln(x-1)|/(x-1) to be exact for the limit Grin

so it would be positive infinity?

 lim                             |ln(x-1)|                    =                         lim                       1                 =             positive infinity
x -> 1+                           (x-1)                                              x -> 1+                      x-1

no, the limit is really positive infinity, but you can't simplify |ln(x-1)| by 1.

because lim |ln(x-1)|               =positive infinity!
               x->1+

so the total limit is positive infinity^^

now a harder limit:

lim ln(x)/(x-1)
x->1

(flood inside, funny)

I just used l'hospital rule on that.

IIRC, that limit is negative infinity.
piece of cake!
lol, no, you forgot the |...| around the ln(..), it is positive infinity.
are you french?? (l'hospital?)

try to find the second limit  Tongue

LOL stupid me for not seeing that.

No, I'm not French, but every calculus student knows about L'Hospital's rule

I got to go to class now, but nice discussion anyway.

it seems the forum doesn't support nested quotes. Well, I'm referring to tagh_azog first lim function.

@laughing_gas: You are wrong. It's defined for all x. For x->1+ it's +infinity and for - it's -infinity.
Derive says the same. Don't dare ever question derive. It's like saying Spider's run sucks in this thread

Must have missed that then. Somehow I thought the equation in the denominator simplifies to zero.
omg! wtf?

Scary. I thought it would be cool to checkout Calculus this year (Grade 12), but then I realized that would be a grave miscalculation, no pun intended, so I heaved a great sigh, realizing I would never have to do another calculation in my entire life. Well, ok, I'm a tutor now for Math 20A students, but I'm not doing it for marks! MUHWAHAHA!

I give a great big "suck it" to Trigonometry, graphing, equations, linear and non-linear functions, tables, and anything having to do with Math.
Ermf..
Calculus jokes, anyone?

One day e^x is walking along and 42 goes running by screaming, "There's a differential operator at the end of the street! If he catches me, I'll be nothing!"
So e^x goes up to the operator and says, "I'm e^x. You can't do anything to me!"
And the operator says, "Hi, I'm d/dy."
