Released just yesterday, this game is incredibly awesome - but short. Great for speedrunning, since it's fast, has a high skill ceiling, and benefits hugely from planning. Single segment would be quite difficult, but the excellent autosave system allows players to recover quickly from a death.
I suggest two categories - segmented new game and SS. New game plus IL might be reasonable if gatecrashers are prohibited.
Here's a run of "Collins: intex" to whet your appetite (and hopefully inspire some competition); in it, the objective and secondary objective are completed, the laptop is hacked, and there is no violence, no witness, and no noise in 28 seconds. It is done after completing the game (full upgrades), but without gatecrashers.
Thread title:
Oh wow, I was so hype about this game when I first found out about it - and now it's released! Definitely have to play this.
Been playing around with speedrunning this with a friend, new game plus make a lot of the early levels a bit too easy, even though its kind of neat to watch. I don't think gatecrashers are that much of an issue, the jump upgrades are the main thing that increases efficiency in levels. Still, just because of the way upgrades work in the game it will be annoying to keep track of how much money somebody should have for items and how many upgrade points should be allotted for each level. I think because of that the most logical categories would be SS, IL (no upgrades besides level requirements) and IL (NG+)

Really fun game though, and I think its good for speedrunning as well. There is a LOT of room for optimization based on wiring patterns alone, and there are a lot of possible routes through levels. I'm a bit rubbish at execution though, and my computer doesn't like recording or streaming unfortunately.

The game has some weird behaviour at times, but I can't properly recreate it just yet. I've managed to climb through Windows and skip through closed doors, though. I can also get stuck slightly to the side of a wall, which appears to be entirely useless so far.

This is a dirty first try of a "run" for me, just to show off some of the strats I came up with for certain stages. It's not impressive at all, but it might be a good starting point on routing.

Actually, just realized you can shoot out of reach windows with a gun, that should speed things up considerably.
Quite, although you do have a finite number of bullets.
Freedom Undefined
Here's a small trick on the final mission that may come in handy:

I don't know if this works on all windows, or if it's even useful anywhere else.
LLCoolDave, decent start. I can't say I'm a fan of using the built in level skip as its already a pretty short run, and if you are going to use it I think saving it for the longest levels would be the plan. Collins: Recording is a pretty quick level when you have the route down, which is why I was confused by the skip.

(I also can't watch that video beyond 10:27, so I only have impressions of early levels)

Can you show me a route for Collins: Recording that is quick and can be done with the equipment you have at the time? You could do other missions first until you can afford a fun for this, but that costs like 15-20 seconds on worse routes for the other missions so eh, not sold.

Jackson: The Truth is an obvious mission to skip because it's just the longest in the game right now and I don't see how we could speed it up significantly. Another candidate would be Rooke: The Prototype, as that clocks in at a hefty 40 seconds on the mission order that does Recording with a gun, and 38ish seconds otherwise, but it's a really easy one so it's a matter of timing things more closely.

In this current no Mission Skip route I use my 6 bullets as follows: 1 in Collins: the recording, 2 in Mayfield: The DataSex Recording (probably a bit of a waste as it only saves around 5 seconds), 1 in Rooke: The Plant, 1 in Jackson: The Truth and 1 in Gessler: Come and fucking get me

A minor execution note - if you need to go through multiple floors in an elevator, get into the elevator and click the floor you want to go to. This was mentioned in the developer commentary; it's not included in the ingame tutorial because teaching two controls for the same thing tended to confuse players.

Casual 100% segmented new game run with A+ rating and Gentleman, Ghost and Ninja badges on every mission. I didn't bother with fast clicking through the briefing screens so it probably could have been a minute or two faster.

By the way, did anyone notice that animation and movement speed in the game are proportional to fps? It seems that 60 fps are considered "normal", but with anything below that you get a noticeable slowdown. I tried limiting fps in FRAPS and measuring the character's speed: at 45 fps he moves at 3/4 normal speed, at 30 -- at half speed, at 15 -- 1/4, etc. So even a few short frame drops can add up to 2-3 seconds to your total time.

I forgot that my friend was streaming while we were testing out routes. Here's a messy version: http://www.twitch.tv/joefu211/b/412801910?t=45m8s I think without mistakes you could theoretically do it instead of Rooke: prototype if you still wanted to use skips; I think there are a lot less factors that could lead to failure.
So great to see people planing run's for this game! Looking forward to seeing the finished runs, might also give it a try myself Cheesy

I just picked up this game and did some mock running, and I discovered something. I somehow managed to jump through a door.

Ima see if I can get a consistent reproduction and record it.

Edit: No luck reproducing it. I did find a neat graphica glitch: if you hang off a wall, jump straight up or straight down and immediately hit jump again, you hang a small distance off the wall.

So far no real use for this. It only works if you have the muffler.
I am looking to speedrun this. I am starting with any% new game, simply all the levels you can play, maybe in the future I will do 100% all A+, but we will see.

I also found some strange glitches that appear sometimes, like random teleporting, weird AI, cool stuff, quite difficult to reproduce.
Sometimes you can "disable" the AI for the unpunchable guards, the one that you can only kill by fall damage.

You jump against them a few times and you push them around for a bit and they will stay still, and they won't shot you.  I am trying to reproduce this.

My new personal best is now 28 something, any% no A+ . I am looking to push this below 25 min

LLCoolDave, just something I thought I'd throw your way.  You can link more than one object to a swtich.  Such as multiple doors/lights/etc as long as their in a chain.  Makes a few parts a bit easier, if not faster.

Also, in the last level if you have two bullets left, you can shoot out the window on the left side, climb in that side on the top floor.  When you run to the door the guy will open it in your face, but wont shoot right away.  You get enough time to get up and shoot before he does.  Then you just jump out the side.

WOW.
I currently at a 15:12.8 for any% after I found a glitch where you can clip through right-facing walls. I found it like 2 months ago, it's kind of like Onin's glitch were you need the muffler to do it.

How exactly do you go about pulling that off?
Antarctic Wind
I found a couple of glitches in some test runs that I did a few hours ago:
In the first and second one, I clip through closed security(!) doors.  I can't replicate either very well, but it could be advantageous, possibly? :-?
The third one allows me to warp to the left edge of a platform while aiming with the resolver.  I can replicate this somewhat consistently and I think it has potential.
I've used clipping through security doors to finish a few levels quicker than usual.  Also, you can do it going either direction.  And yeah, clipping through right-facing walls works indoors too, its just more specific in the height you need.  Not really useful unless you get REALLY good at it.  Been trying to see if it goes the other way and it doesn't look like it does.

I got a Gunpoint any% PB of 12:57 (from start of opening scene to first frame of end credits) Thursday

(plus 20 seconds of non-useful stuff at the end)
The video slows down to 30 FPS at some points due to FRAPS (causing the game to move at half speed)... otherwise the time would have been lower.
I still can't clip through walls yet, I need to practice how to do that.
I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but rather than riding the elevator to each floor and stopping, you can instead get in the elevator and then click on the elevator door on the floor you want to go to. It saves the time of stopping on each floor and waiting for the door to open and close.

I'm not sure how I missed that.  That's a definite time saver that I used in my speedrun attempts yesterday.  Also, I found out that the intro mission can be skipped for free, which cuts out about 18 seconds of play plus another second or two of text.  I tried these out and I got an 11:51 (any%) last night.
Man.  I have some work cut out for me to catch up.
