Hey hey guys! I've been doing a lot of 100% runs, and currently hold the record of 2:00:12. It's been pretty hype.

I have a recording of a 2:01:34 run Here.

No Infierno, since I don't really think it should be included [Being just a bunch of challenge rooms], but it outlines the general route pretty well, saving most of the item-heavy areas until after you can just bypass and challenges/puzzles, and staying as skeleton until the stamina regen upgrades are purchased [Best done just before X'Tabay so the switch to Albreje for the boss fight can be permanent]. Lemme know what you guys think!
Super late, but awesome run BritishHat.  Really nice to have the WR holder explaining his run for us
If I ever get the time and drive to learn the route, I'll feel better knowing all the legwork has done by a bunch of people Tongue

Also Khaled, I cannot for the life of me figure out where you are Save+Quitting at.  Any help would be appreciated Smiley
get close to a checkpoint w/o saving ,  press Y and buy anything
now the game will save your progress just like it does after you finish a fight Smiley

the tule tree is a bit tricky since you have to jump over the 1st checkpoint w/o saving by doing wall jump and uppercut

and yeah congrats britishhat for that time but i think you should work with a new route using s+q trick. im thinking sub 1:50 is possible
So wait... I'm kind of confused.  Is the S+Q letting you skip something or... I'm not really sure what it's accomplishing for you.  Any chance you have a video of it being used?
well  last night manged to do 57:07 run

i did a new stamina chunks route with some new timesaveres
and as well the s+q trick but i failed to do the jump on tule tree Sad

sub 56 is possible now but fucking hard to do
Ohh, now I think I get it.  Saving at the shop and activating the torches on the shop are two different things it looks like?  So if you save at a shop, quit, then continue, it goes back to the last shop whose torches you lit?
yeah pretty much like that

i tried to get out of the temple of rain while in dark world but i couldn't do it , this game is well programmed !

"Well programmed" you say, yet i OOB'd not ten minutes after getting the game and had to restart.
Well then you are extremely unlucky.  There have been a lot of people who have tried to OoB in this game and no one could make it happen.

I just tried it on the newest patch (since I had only done it off a fresh install) and it's still doable. I have no idea if it's useful anywhere, since it's basically a softlock (the camera doesn't follow you while OoB and there's no solid terrain what I can tell), but it's fairly easy to do. I'll upload a video later, or something.
Wow, I'm surprised.  Yeah, a video would be awesome, and much appreciated!

Also Khaled, just for the sake of consistency between runners, when do you start and stop your timer?  I've been starting right when I select Yes when it asks if I want to overwrite my save from the main menu, and I stop as soon as I hit Triangle/Y to save the president's daughter.
I'm coming for you Khaled Wink
Just got a 1:00:23 RTA with 4 deaths.  I think if a good deathless run happens it might just BARELY make sub 59.
<3
Hey there everyone.  Finally opted to make an account.  I've been beginning to learn this game for a couple weeks now, been having a ton of fun.  Following Khaled's run for a baseline.  Looking forward to competing with you all.
Sweet.  Good luck Yurf.

I've been consistently getting 1 HR flat and 1:01 's even with sloppy gameplay and deaths here and there.  As always, my end time always comes down to how well Sierra and and Great Temple go.  I've had absolutely crap runs still come out decent simply from having good execution during the last 15-20 minutes.
I just finished my first casual run of this game and loved the hell out of it. I've been looking for a platformer of some kind to run and had my eye on Super Metroid again after the sick race at AGDQ, but this game is so great that it made the decision for me.

Time to start practicing any%! I'd also like to do 100% at some point, because IMO it's a super fun run to watch.

This game seems like it's still ripe for new tech. Even if we can't find any major sequence breaks, there's got to be some single room optimizations out there.
Hey PKsage.  Yeah, there's bound to always be room for optimizations here and there.  Good luck man Smiley

Holy shit.  Just got a new WR.  59:46 RTA, 57:01 In-Game.  I'm shaking from how nervous I was Cheesy

Just watched a majority of that run.  You played super well.  Your voice is super quiet compared to the game though, you ought to turn the game volume pretty far down if you want to talk.

Also, try not to be so hard on yourself Smiley I could hear you getting pretty frustrated.
Congrats! What's up with your movement? Is it just rolling into a jump cancel? And if so, is that noticeably faster than just rolling?
Slowrunner
Hey guys! Just started running this game; have yet to do a full run but this game is super duper fun.
Plain rolling is the fastest form of movement until you get Pollo Power.  However you're ground speed carries while in the air.  So when going uphill on steep slopes I repeatedly tap jump and dodge so that I'm constantly at roll speed.  Theoretically this isn't necessary because it is possible to constantly roll, but that would require your mashing to be hitting the frame your roll ends every time.

Also Yurf, I'm kind of a naturally quiet person and I tend to mumble to myself while playing Tongue
To anyone who is checking this thread out:
I'm going to be offering this game for SGDQ, but I need some help with an idea I have for a donation incentive, assuming it gets into the marathon at all of course.  But since this incentive would affect the estimate time, I still need to include it in my submission.

My incentive idea is to get the True/Good Ending.  I'm unsure of how to offer it though.  Make it a challenge incentive, emphasizing how difficult some of the Mask Pieces are to get (the Tule Tree especially is a HUGE pain to get without the Goat Climb move)?  Or emphasize the humor in just flying through most of the Great Temple?  Or go a different direction and make it a bidding war between reviving and not reviving the President's Daughter, akin to Kill/Save the Animals in Super Metroid.

Again, assuming this even does make it into the marathon, I'm unsure of how many people watching/donating will have even played the game, and so I'm also unsure of how to offer the incentive.

Also, any general things you guys want to point out about why this game would make a good marathon game would also be appreciated.  Thanks for your time guys Smiley
Oh god, doing Treetops without Goat Climb. I can't even imagine that in a marathon setting. You seriously might want to change the route to grab it.

"All Orbs" or "good ending" is an excellent incentive. I really like selling it as "kill/save El Presidente's daughter", even though it impacts the run way more than saving the animals.

Guacamelee will be a tough sell because of its relative obscurity. I would highlight how it's a huge love letter to all Metroidvanias ever, the mandatory "arena" fights and how they add depth to a playthrough, the large amount of execution that goes into a speedrun, and how the devs are active and would probably be down for a Skype call during the run.
Skipping Flame Face and Goat Climb is one of the selling points of the run, so unfortunately skipping it is out of the question.  Just gonna have to practice the hell out of it Smiley
I'd be on the side of making it an incentive for "good ending," with a note that it requires some rather difficult platforming to accomplish. In your pitch, you should just set the estimate to what you would expect for good ending and note that you've increased the estimate over the normal amount for that specific reason.
