Right, so I tested Tirean's theoretical LS route change, moving the final two BS missions to immediately after Burning Desire, in order to get grenades and NRG early for Doberman and Gray Imports
The results from my first try were

(New route)
Burning Desire end (With Bf-400) -> Start of BS
End of BS (NRG/Grenades Spawn) -> Doberman
Doberman (without first cutscene)
Doberman -> Gray Imports
Gray Imports start -> Warehouse entrance
Warehouse entrance -> CJ's House Garage
5:50

(Current route)
Burning Desire end (With Bf-400) -> Doberman
Doderman (Without first cutscene, without grenades)
Doberman -> Gray Imports
Gray Imports start -> Warehouse entrance
Warehouse entrance -> Start of BS
End of BS (NRG/Grenades Spawn) -> CJ's House Garage
5:22

I will say however that the new route had a route I'm not 100% happy going from the Gray Imports ending to Grove Street, AND that I messed up using the grenades in Doberman quite a bit, so a bit more testing needs to be done, but I thought I would post this to show that its not crazy faster/slower

EDIT:
Yeah after using a better route after Gray Imports (The left after the train tracks) and using the grenades to kill groups of enemies in Doberman, I managed to get the time down to 4:57, and even that wasn't perfect grenade usage (I missed a few guys, and the guy at the end took two throws)

uff, finally, i'm done with the firefighter, really happy about that. by the way, i think this is the best time i ever got on that crappy mission. also, reuploaded new segment 1, coz i've lost save from old one, actualy, also saved 3 seconds on it for some reason.

Any update on part 3?
small tests on new route suggested by Tirean that I've done have shown the new route to be worth it by a decent margin (even excluding the use of grenades - I didn't want to factor those in when I don't know of optimal use of them yet/have to also factor in doberman spawn RNG)

speaking of optimal use of nades, I made a highlight of how to use grenades @ catalyst
http://www.twitch.tv/bubbleb0bbler/c/3368790
3 important things here
1) it's (probably, I didn't time it) worth using a nade on the first set of people if you can kill them all with one throw
2) if you don't kill the second set of people instantly with your grenade, you're throwing too early - while people are entering or exiting a car (excluding the opening of the car door itself for entering), they are invincible. So, you should wait a little bit longer before the throw as to ensure you don't have to wait for the second explosion or throw a second grenade
3) you should learn the throw timing so you don't have to sit and stare at the grenade to ensure it kills them - this way you can head towards the train and save an extra second or two by not having to walk to it after they all die

Yeah, when I tested the old route again this morning I was getting much slower times, so there does seem to be quite an improvement.
Also, were you testing with or without a bike at the end of burning desire?
Without a bike I can see it being even faster still, since you have to drive less without a NRG and thus not having to rely on RNG to get a good vehicle (That sentence isn't confusing at all)
Someone find a better spot for Courier LS then pls
My main focus for this new route was a form of consistency. I had enough of my times varying from 50-60 seconds just because of bad RNG. So I decided to look at the NRG as an option. Glad results are coming out as I was expecting Cheesy

Also it means if you do yolo train you can reset 10-15 minutes earlier Cheesy
we spoke about killing the guy with the katana on the ship without triggering the cutscene, and I said that you can kill him with the glitch to shoot through walls

http://snag.gy/FVQvU.jpg

in this picture, the middle dot in your crosshair determines which plane your shot ends on, so all of the pellets that come through the area of the crosshair that's on a wall, will go straight through the wall.

untested on whether it actually saves time to do it like this yet, but it's worth posting the glitch here in case there's any implementation suggestions from others
oh, I forgot to mention that this is for 'da nang thang' btw

as a safestrat, for snail trail, you can drive to the Outrider swimming location, swim there, and then continue as usual. This avoids fucking up swimming in LS

probably i'm going to come back to san andreas in a short time, i haven't been able to even play it for that long period. now going to check anything new that you all wrote there to make nice strats
It's a shame that flight school takes away the parachute. But it should be possible to do the new Stowaway strats(where you shoot the ramp at the beginning) and still save time.

You can force the plane in N.O.E to give you a parachute by landing on a high elevation. Exit the plane during N.O.E on a high elevation (it should be above 50% of the altitude meter I think). You should obtain a parachute if things are done correctly. Then enter the plane again to continue the mission.  I recommend landing on one of the peaks near the airstrip on the flight back. There might be a better spot to land the plane.

Time is lost during N.O.E but gained during Stowaway. Overall, time should be gained.

I tried landing the plane in the Badlands on a high elevation and it didn't give me a parachute. But It gave me a parachute when I landed in the desert. I don't know why it is like this. Maybe someone else can test what determines a plane to give you a parachute (aside from landing/jumping out of the plane at high altitudes).

how to delete this post? ..
The Parachute strats save you roughly 17 seconds.

Slowing down to land, getting out, getting back in, and gaining enough speed to take off and get back to top speed will cost you more than 17 seconds.

You don't need speed to take off because you're at a high elevation already. It is a quick take off because you drop down to take off. Where you land will be at most 10 seconds away from the ending location. You are slowing down already so that high speed doesn't matter too much.

Another thing I'm not certain about is forcing the plane to give you a parachute after flying around without getting out of the plane on a high elevation. I may have been able to get a parachute on the ground level after flying around high altitude for some time. But I can't confirm that I got the parachute or I already had one from earlier.
http://i.snag.gy/gBs1A.jpg
on this map I don't see anywhere where you can land the plane, get out and get back in without is costing you more than the 17 seconds

I also looked into grabbing the two parachute fixed spawns nearby, one was unobtainable (you had to take a teleport up onto a big building and were forced to jump down using the parachute you obtained) and the other costed 27 seconds excluding the indirect route taken
I had a mission order change which allowed you to use a parachute, however it ended up being pretty much even with the current route and would cost you time if you made the smallest movement mistake. So only worth doing it for swag.
torch slug since 2006
just thought i'd say that the iOS version of this game has awful controls and that you cant skip all the cutscenes (for example, the "nice car smoke" cutscene in the first mission).
it looks nice though.
The place where you land is actually directly on that flight path or very close to it. I should have clarified where the place was.

Where you land is not a very large area. It is the tall rock formation that is south of the airstrip and north of the military base. You can see it if you look slightly southwest from the save point.

I don't see how you lose more than 17 seconds if the slowdown and landing is executed very well because that location is very convenient.

I have a faster but a more dangerous way of getting the parachute. It requires you to bail out of the plane and hit a building to slow down the plane. What you have to do is fly at a high altitude and then descend rapidly. Once you are close to ground level, you can bail out of the plane.

You can bring the wheels out and slow down the plane so that it doesn't explode or bounce off very far. Just be sure to bail out when slightly above the ground.  Remember that you can damage the plane, but don't destroy it. A proper crash land with the plane should mot make it explode; make sure that you crash with the proper speed and angle.

Here are the videos for the people who want to see the parachute strats(I was lurking in Tirean's stream and heard him complaining).

The second one is much harder to pull off than the second one. You might have a hard time landing the plane in the right place. I recommend that you do not do the second one without much practice.

There are strats I've seen used by speedrunners in GTA VC and GTA III that might be of use in this game. It involves twitching the camera to make vehicles spawn. In this game you can do that as well.

What you do is twitch the camera up and down. Cars far away will despawn. Cars can also spawn in front of you so be careful about that. if you want vehicles to spawn, you can twitch the camera to make vehicles spawn as well. This strat may also be useful in 100% when looking for cars.

Edit: Look closely at vehicles from far away. You can see them despawn.

You can also look left and right as well. I do this in OG loc mission to spawn faster vehicles when bad ones appear.
