This is an improvement to the Stowaway strats that Inspired found.

You can just shoot the ramp of the plane in Stowaway and jump out to pass the mission. You don't even have to lay down the satchel charge or shoot the guy with the parachute. This makes the strategy much safer than the other strat. Shooting the ramp will trigger the explosion of the plane and kill the guy.

Make sure that you are very close to falling out of the plane when you shoot the ramp. Jump out the plane almost immediately after shooting the ramp. You can shoot with the smg right before you jump off. Don't forget to bring a parachute before starting the mission.

Additionally, strat in stowaway need to get parachute in Interdiction. also need AK for AHITH

To get the NRG, there is a shortcut: jump into the first floor instead of running up the whole 'spiral'. Taking the same way back on the motorcycle is possible, but hard.

Bubblebobbler:
>>'if you use a car you can grab them'
Because of stamina, I suppose.
I am going to look at blowing up the heli a bit but I won't try for long.

It costs 12 seconds to get the grenades you mentioned.
Other uses:
- House Party: for the cars (can't be blown up by shooting at the gas tank) and the 'behind us, CJ!' guys. I feel this should already save 12s.
- Catalyst: saves running from the gas tank to the train.
- maybe Los Sepulcros?
- The Green Sabre? I am going to look into how easy it might be to blow up the cars using reference points. :-D
You can get them in 19s (7s more) at AmmuNation in Doberman, so you can use them in Doberman and Just Business. Those are full of running enemies, not sure whether you can save more than 7s in those.

Random_Machine, this is an awesome strat. Cheesy
You do not have to jump out right after shooting, you have enough time that you can just run to the 'exit' and 1.5 steps to the edge you shoot. 1.5 steps, because of reaction time, so you can stop in case you missed the shot so that you do not accidently exit without having blown up the plane. Cheesy
Also, 'we' now have a satchel charge. Smiley I propose using it for the shotgunners in Saint Mark's Bistro but keep that question in mind when you are running the game, maybe there is an even better use. :-) Afaik, with the shotgunners gone, there is no need for 'safety armor', is there?

Adam:Maybe I am going to time all the shooting missions in Omega's and Cyber's runs. I feel the difference should not be bigger than 5 minutes but that is just a blind guess. Add to that the difference in loading times. Worth looking into, btw, how much those differ across different PCs and consoles.

Omega had problems with getting rid of the first star in Against All Odds. Probably, the first intersection after the small town with the betting shop is a 'wanted level decreaser zone' and if you take the shortcut through the grass too far from the intersection, you will miss it. Todo: test that claim and if true, study until where the zone extends.

I was glad to see that he was above the reporter in time, i.e. more than roughly 10s before him waiting for a taxi. So you indeed can get all those extras in the timed missions without loosing time there. Admittedly, he spent longer diving in 555 than the others, (afaik, not sure). I was not sure of that at first, tbh.

I think that you should stop buying Micro SMG ammo in Small Town Bank: If you fail in Local Liquor Store, Catalina is good enough at shooting them him if you drive at very low distance, good enough so that buying ammo is not worth it (later you get 200 ammo from Jizzy).

For 'Against All Odds': nothing in that mission decreases the player wanted level (i.e. there is no  'wanted level decreaser zone')
That would be really appreciated and interesting Paddy. I can't seem to find CyberThunders 6:12 run on his Twitch or google.

Couldn't you just grab the grenades with the NRG instead?

EDIT: Yes, you can. It can be a bit difficult sometimes, but if you get the right position and correct jump them its possible.

The idea of using grenades sounds pretty sweet, as patrick mentions it would be so much easier and faster if there were reference points for a lot of things.
I figured out a way to hit the helicopter in RTF with the grenades. But it requires you to not skip the cutscene where the helicopter shows up. The helicopter seems to fly in such a way that I can hit it more easily. The flight pattern for the helicopter when you skip the cutscene is different from when you do not skip the cutscene.

Maybe there is a different reference point to hit the helicopter with the grenades when skipping the cutscene. But it is very different from when you do not skip the cutscene.
this could definitely explain it random! will look into it now

when skipping, the lowest I've observed it at is 7 seconds before it does a 90-180 degree spin.
so, sorry for doubleposting with such a short gap between posts
http://www.twitch.tv/bubbleb0bbler/c/3248899
although there may be a reference point for halfway through the cutscene or so which could save a further few seconds, waiting out the ENTIRE cutscene means you barely need any reference point for the throw and this method still saves more than 9 seconds off of the WR's helicopter kill (which admittedly had ~1-2 seconds of mistakes within the glitching)

very grateful that you took the time to look into it random - it's been annoying me for the past week, and makes an even greater case for grenade strats Cheesy
These grenade strats are really awesome. I'm going to try and see if there are any other places they can be implemented into. I feel like there has to be a decent reference point in The Green Sabre for them so I should try and find one. It will have to have some timing to I imagine. And bubblerbobbler I saw your gray imports idea where you went in the back and jumped on the roof. That seems like a really good idea actually and  I think a side by side strat comparison would show which is superior. It also has slightly more risk though as you could misjump over the bike and staircase and fall down below. There's always gonna be more strats coming out for this game it seems! Smiley
he is referring to this
http://www.twitch.tv/bubbleb0bbler/c/3247093

I spoke with ultimaomega and he says that though this is a few seconds faster than his WR gray imports, with the quick kill on the russian, the old method can be around 30 seconds faster. I'm going to look into possibilities of speeding it up

also, for those who didn't see it, I don't think it was posted here (also, ultimaomega07 has a better video of it)

Edit:@Adam: I looked through the archive, there is no longer even one single full run of Cyberthunder in it. I am going to dl MrGamerDerek's run (a 1min thing when disregarding the dl time) for comparison. If it takes longer to time that stuff than I hoped, I will just give up. Tongue I cannot do it during the weekdays, so you will have to wait.

Bubblebobbler: I had the same idea as you for Gray Imports. It was even slower than without a bike. Your grenade grab trick looks really cool. Smiley To make CJ do the turns required for the jumps, using the shotgun is more comfortable when standing on the bike, you will see what I mean when you try it.

GJ, Random_Machine! Smiley This is enough for me, tbh, I have no interest finding a reference point with cutscene skipping.

Thanks, Lighnat0r. So if the stars do not want to go away at first, I would drive to the Pay'n'Spray instead of waiting.

Killing Jizzy while he is on foot with your RPG is save. The game even allowed me to blow up the car with the rpg most of the time (95% or so), but as I do not know what determines whether it blows up the phone, nearly ending the run, I do not recommend it. But in all those attempts I blew up Jizzy with the rpg after blowing up his car and it never destroyed the phone. The disadvantage is that you cannot country-rifle-snipe a biker after Lure to get his bike.

When landing the Shamal: It survives landings at ridiculous angles like 40 degrees; when you land it and it does not need to survive, let the wheels be outside so that it does not explode as it touches the ground. The last point also applies to the world war plane.

Incomplete stuff:
Death abuse Mike Toreno->Lure:
Death abuse was under five seconds faster than my driving (which was good) and 12s faster than Omega's (my driving route seams to better). You can then get the Micro SMG from Jizzy's body for Amphibious Assault and drive-by killing T-Bone in case you mess up (Inspired's idea afaik, I had assumed he were a super human taking tons of bullets). The disadvantage is that you cannot use your country rifle to get a bike after Lure.
To-do: consequences for the timed missions, map of my driving route
I wonder if you can try using grenades to kill arms dealer. I mean doing a really precise throw, and maybe killing him one shot.

He managed to survive three grenades that were quite decently aimed.
Edit: blowing up CJ, there is no hugo difference between 'decently' and perfectly aimed throws. So I have no hope, it stays on my to-do list to try, but on the low end. Wink

Edit:
Local Liquor Store:on console, where the sniper strats are not worth it, I guess, do not go to ammu nation at all, I wrote why above. I have to go now.
Edit history:
AdamSpeedruns: 2013-11-18 09:30:44 am
I feel that since there are differences from console to PC version for loading times and auto aiming that for speedrunning they should be two seperate categories. This could encourage more console version runs. I know I want to run it but getting a nice time on Xbox in comparison to the PC times is pretty difficult and can be discouraging for some. Auto aim is more of a disadvantage than advantage for most missions like Los Deperados and various other shooting missions. Like getting the gang territories. It helps some in nines and aks but it is barely enough to be even with PCs aim. It probably helps in other missions to but still. Also for local liquor store like stated above you get screwed over in the console version because you can't use sniper strats.
For Ice Cold Killa, the phone is destroyed if and only if the following are true:
Jizzy's escape with the phone is triggered (i.e. you left the club)
    Jizzy's Broadway/Pizza Boy is destroyed
Jizzy is in his Broadway/Pizza Boy

Regarding grenades (nothing other than a generic explosion), an explosion is defined by two radii:
Everything inside the inner radius takes full damage.
A damage gradient (albeit with banding) is used to determine damage between the inner and outer radius.
Everything outside the outer radius doesn't take damage.
I cba to find the exact extent of the inner radius, but it's roughly 3.0-4.0 (as a reference, an average car has a length of 5.0). The outer radius is double that (6.0-8.0).
And in case you're wondering, the rocket launcher causes the same generic explosion.

For Gray Imports, the arms dealer does indeed have high health set, so you're not going to kill him any quicker. (For completeness, the weapons which should be two-hit kill based on their damage settings are: a Desert Eagle with skill >= Gangster, Sniper Rifle (not country), Minigun.)

Adam, console and PC already are separate categories. Certainly on SDA, where there's a note on the game page. As for the RTA Leaderboards, I'd definitely be willing to separate consoles and PC, but I'd want to see at least some sort of indication (read: submissions) that gta console speedrunnning is alive before spending time doing that.

Well thanks for clearing that up and you can expect runs from me coming in early 2014. I actually was going to do a first, Playstation 4 version runs haha Tongue basically the Playstation 2 version. It's also nice cause I can use it to stream to Twitch. I have Los Santos down but am still working on the other areas. I am working on Los Santos, Badlands, Sanfierro, and Las Venturas seperately for practice. Can't wait to show you guys my runs!
some small developments in LS as I'm beginning to route a segmented any% run - apologies for the audio, I was watching streams while making these highlights

• if you're willing to reset more often, you can pick up a cope bike on the opening segment which still saves/breaks even with taking the bmx if you get a good pickup
http://www.twitch.tv/bubbleb0bbler/c/3252760
this also opens up 'big smoke' to picking up an additional, disposable bike (pcj or another copbike even) which can be used to save time in a few spots.

• someone else will have to test timing on this one, but you can take your bike out of storage for cleaning the hood to save some time - more ideal than this is to get a copbike on the road just after b-dup cutscene or killing the gangmember but that may be too optimistic to aim for
http://www.twitch.tv/bubbleb0bbler/c/3262347

• if you garage a disposable bike, the two places you are actually able to use it are 'sweets girl' and 'cesar vialpando' - along with time saved from having a fast vehicle, you can also (with practice) jump the fence like so, saving time where you'd usually have to climb over it
http://www.twitch.tv/bubbleb0bbler/c/3248791
An alternative (but much less reliable/reproducable) trick without a bike is this, but I'm assuming it's too difficult/random to rely on

Yeah, as you go off the edge you hold UP instead of DOWN, so you intentionally flip once

does it matter? nobody has anything to gain from spoofing being me, lol
as for NRG grenade strats, i am not sure why this happened, but my last run the NRG did not spawn for any reason, i'll put up the highlight later, it is supposed to be a forced spawn right?
