Imo the only proper way to run this is from a fresh copy with no saves at all, or under the same conditions that is.

So no NG+ for death abuse weapon keep thing and no prerecorded replay files.
I've known about this since before getting involved in speedrunning but never really mentioned it because it's such a small timesave that it was not needed (and probably still isn't) - but I guess it's worth throwing this in here anyway just in case people wanna do it

crouchglitching is a technique that allows you to cut the "putting the gun down" animation off, saving frames every time you use a weapon, more frames depending on how long the animation is, for the video here I used the desert eagle because it has one of the longer animations.

keep annotations on because I just ported it from twitch so I couldn't add any on-video subtitles or whatever

rapidfiring as I do with the desert eagle isn't a possibility with shotgun/country rifle as shown in the video, I thought it was key to highlight this since these weapons are used, so tl;dr rapidfiring isn't viable (but I thought I'd add it anyway cause it looks cool) - the primary use of saving frames every time you're putting a gun away is still a small timesave however

I also included 'melee sliding' in the video - I'm pretty sure it has no use in speedrunning but paddy thinks that it may be faster than normal jogging speed, so wait for his confirmation I guess ^^
oh - can't edit my post because I'm a guest - just noticed skeys didn't record my mouse inputs on this - so I should probably explain keypresses for it

the easy way to crouchglitch is to press crouch and then sprint, but this is also slower

the harder (but much better/less movement constricting) way is to tap crouch during the animation where the gun is being pulled back, as this override crouching itself while still being cancelled by the crouch input

so, shoot, let go of aim, crouch as soon as you do
freakypaddy's strat - you could potentially save the NRG in quarry. obviously, this is only worth doing if NRG is faster than heli, so someone would have to time this
Hi!

I am just watching the 100% single segment gta sa run at http://www.twitch.tv/lotsofs/c/2771887 and I am curious why the people in the chat constantly write "kappa". Can someone tell me what this means?

Thanks!
Christian

This is the face of Josh, a former Justin.tv employee. Kappa is generally used to indicate sarcasm or trolling.

Have fun watching it. Cheesy

About the climbing strategy: I am going to post about it later. The video (obviously) was done quick&dirty, I later found out that the first climb is unnecessary as you can just drive around. Secondly. there is an alternative, you drive straight to the regular exit, head-shot the guards from a distance, discard your bike and jump over the fence near the gate. Then you take one of the vans outside. I can post a vid about it later.
http://ko.twitch.tv/inspired88/c/2945840

there is a strat used in mission "Ice cold killa"

I don't know how helpful it is or already posted
I notice that Josh does the Los Sepulcros trick wrong every time (doing it too slow). But here is a faster way of doing it. It is also riskier. You have to be very fast here.

Also, Inspired did not use my trick to find the right ambulance in Intensive Care during the WR run. It is the one that does not move (you can ignore the ambulance that is moving).

To Josh: I remember this happened a few months ago. Did you figure out how you triggered the same mission twice at the same time? It was "Grove for Life". The game crashed after completing one of the gang territories for the mission.

Inspired, can you please highlight how CJ died literally three steps to the save point? Hilarious! Cyber&Kortek need to know about this as well: after 48 hours w/o eating you start losing fat, then health (and then after 24h of health loss you lose muscle, relevant for 100% SS runs). That timer is reset when eating/drinking, wasted/busted or saving. Normally this is no problem:
~30 minutes into the run: Chili Dog
~75: vending machine in Re-uniting the Families
~85:saving for the health before 'Badlands'
But remember: it is only 2% per hour (btw you lose 2% at once every full hour, for example 2:00) and the fat is enough for a few hours, too. So if you skip the vending machine in Re-uniting because you have enough health already, you only lose roughly ~10-15% health until 'Badlands'.

@Josh: I suggest you get the armor in 'Just Business' because I know you died a few times because you skipped it and often times you have to save/drink because you are on low health.

Badlands (mission):
study what the game 'sees' as a valid picture.
time a different drop location when dropping as soon as possible, i.e. just 20m from the house
look for a save strat for when being on low health and Random_Machine's awesome strat is not save (if you time it wrong you lose ~1/4 health, grain of salt as my sample size is very low), first idea is to do it in two steps, first drop to where josh's back wheel very rarely hits it and then the second drop to the street

heli stuff:
time whether helis are worth it in
Cut Throat Business (likely not, S was 3s faster in his run although he messed up and his save strat for CannibalK9's awesome strat looks fast and save, the latter is what I want to test (driving slowly down and then accelerating, that way you do not need to jump as far).

Mike Toreno:
There is hope for when the van spawns right next to it, as I found a new cop bribe so we have two decently heli friendly ones. Smiley
I know that changing to a car for Pay'n'Spray takes too much time to be worth it, I timed it, that way is even slower than the old car route.
I do not know Inspired's route but the heli is slower for Ran Fa Li - only straight lines, the need to change to a car or run to the car you have to pick up.
Not sure about Mike Toreno->Lure whether the heli is faster there than driving or death abuse (see below).

after Snail Trail: now that the alternative is a Sanchez, maybe. Smiley

LV: the detour for the heli is huge but it is very useful for Explosive Situation and Don Peyote

Death abuse: Mike Toreno->Lure, then get the micro smg that Jizzy drops -> no disadvantage in terms of weapons, you have all you need.
@Random_Machine    I missed at Intensive Care nevertheless I read your thread

@freakypaddy            I upload it  http://www.twitch.tv/inspired88/c/2946719
I found two new positions for Green Goo which are not necessarily better, but I like them better. At least for me they also seemed safer, because behind the wall you can still get shot sometimes. Of course getting the Green Goo is the hard part and I don't really have a better way for that. No timer in the video because of differently good execution of getting the Green Goo. It's just to show the positions.

And in case you didn't see it yet, a possibly safer route down the mountain in Badlands which is around 5 seconds slower:

And also a bit older, but I don't think I posted it here yet. A possibly safer beginning of You've Had Your Chips. Shoot the containers to the left, so the rocket doesn't travel directly towards the shooting enemies, so they may be less likely to shoot it. Although it's still the most important thing to shoot fast, because then only one of them is shooting. Best have your Rocket Launcher equipped, turn around and shoot (at most go one step back).
Any Updates?
Been looking at Los Santos 100% still need to write down the logic behind tags for Sett.

Can't really judge what I'm gonna change in the route until I do return to los santos.
Will have to watch the any% WR and see if the SF strats I heard of are applicable for 100%.
Management Issues: The alley thing is a nono unless I move the tag.

Patrick, do you have a link to the page describing the jetpack minigun thing for Up Up and Away?
Edit history:
Patrick: 2013-10-09 12:36:39 pm
S: that is strange ... I was very sure it was straightforward (just enter it with jetpack) but wanted to verify it just in case I was wrong and I was. Stand in front of it, then hold 'accelerate upwards' and during the hold press 'enter'. You can then shoot your current weapon in first person view and you get 30k minigun ammo.

Chat->forum stuff:
Does anyone know how to make the Maverick spawn if you go for it from the airport (because of having to re-load)? I guess it is just not flying too fast.

Tduva has written some stuff into the SDA Strategy Wiki (for future reference) because looking up stuff in SDA forum threads is too cumbersome. https://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/Grand_Theft_Auto:_San_Andreas/Missions

I suggest we compile a list of ways the game can troll you. If someone, for example me, feels like finding anti-bullshit measures, that's even more helpful, but I feel it is also good to know it is there. Just write me a PM or tell me in chat, in two words what happened where (e.g. a plane crashed into Cyberthunder after he shot the photos in photo opportunity), I'll take care of the rest.

- Snail Trail:
Nixixix has already studied it, a reminder (well, I have forgotten it, too):
(1) after the message 'looking for taxi' you have 1 minute for him to get into one.
(2) taxis do not spawn when you are far from him (dunno what exactly that means^^)
Actually, the hell, you slowpoke ;P, aren't you supposed to be right next to him before that message anyways? Cheesy Whatever, just in case.

In Explosive Situation, due to lazy programming, your Dumper may not explode even after it has done its job. So for the last crate, I'd crash into the forklift using your wheels so that the explosion is not right next to the engine. Pay attention to whether the forklift catches fire so that you can drive away from it in time.
joshz remington from 1;21 run (left) VS new(?) route random car(right) & lucky bike(bottom)
Finally, someone confirming the awesomeness of that route.
not my video - new stowaway strats found by inspired

http://www.twitch.tv/tirean/c/3207057
saves 20-30s+
Bubble I thought that strat was from Tirean, not Inspired?
Nevermind, it was from Inspired. Tirean was just using it. So how about that new WR? 5 hours 39 minutes.... i'm seriously in awe. Surprised no ones talking about it here.
I have a challenge for those who like to find new strats.

On the OG loc mission where you have to chase the guy on the bike. At the start if you don't activate the chase (get off the bike and walk towards him) he is invulnerable to all damage until you activate him.

Now the challenge. Can you find a way to kill him with a rocket just as he activates and becomes vulnerable?

Thanks for those who try! I will most likely start trying this myself in a couple days. Just need to do some practice on other stuff in the game first.

Adam:We virtually never talk about records here. Cheesy This is not a chat. Smiley

Tirean:
It doesn't work. He and his bike are invulnerable to everything everywhere except for where he stops, but are also invulnerable at the start even after him starting to drive. Try the minigun plus the slowitdown cheat to verify for yourself if you feel like it. I also tried throwing grenades and satchels in his way while he was driving and road blocks to make him fall off the bike, but it seams like he is 999999 tons heavy. Cheesy

What does work is going to the same spot that the current strat uses and then using the shotgun (from the pizza guy or a cop car in the first mission) to shoot him into his chest once instead of drive-by killing him, but it requires reference points and practice and I do not know if it is worth it.

Edit:To be clear: right from the start, I was talking about aiming at where his chest is going to be in advance using one(or two) reference point(s) and then pulling the trigger when he is there.

If a new run gets posted and then someone wants to beat that run, I would think then and only then would the shotgun strats be worth it.
We cannot say that now. There may be an awesome reference point that makes it trivially easy so it would be stupid to not use it. :-)
Secondly, it only saves very little time, as in the current strategy you can drive until he blows up and you need to get a shotgun, maybe it never is worth it. :-)
though it will need reference points/some research from others, an idea I had was to get grenades after just business from the NRG carpark, if you use a car you can grab them from the floor below where the NRG is, costing ~5-10s. you could then use these grenades for blowing up the heli during reuniting the families, saving ~15 seconds.

I managed to blow it up with the first grenade I threw on my first attempt but was then unable to reproduce it, so if someone wants to look into how to reproduce it that'd be great. I'm going to keep trying to get it while streaming on an alt so I at least have a highlight of it to try figure things out from
Sorry I didn't know. I've been running this game on console. Xbox 360 XBL Marketplace version to be exact. I don't know if the record is possible on this version because of the aiming though. It speeds up missions like nine's and ak's but  it makes the headshot in Running Dog much harder/near impossible. It generally makes any mission where you get distant headshots more difficult/slower. Just shooting the drug dealer in cleaning the hood is more difficult. But i'm going to see what I can do with it. I'm working on getting a good run together on it. Still got a lot of practice to go though. I feel like a number of people have been drawn away from speedrunning this game because they didn't like playing PC version. I know CyberThunder runs it but his best time was 6:12. Sub 6 just seems impossible on console to me... I mean, I know its possible, just wayyyyy too difficult.
