Actually, that landing from the bridge jump is about as good as it gets. Tongue It usually tips you over and you can only hope the car rolls on its wheels. That didn't cost any time though, cause you can see that I arrive at the Toyz van in time. The only thing that did cost time is the Dodo landing at the garage. Crash landing like that is difficult to do and it usually sends the Dodo flipping all over the place. Still I lost about 10 seconds there for not being perfect and you can see how that costs me time by the message that shows up when I'm on the lift bridge to go and secure the tunnel. As long as that message shows, the Securicar is not moving. This is about as good as it gets though, I've only ever managed to get there before the message comes up like 2 or 3 times. It all depends on the Dodo landing, how quickly I find a sports car and how fast the van moves in the tunnel (it varies a bit).

i was wondering why i have this forum open in my browser, meant to close it but saw this on page one, i was pretty suprised.

Very nice escort strategy, everything comes together just well.
Didnt know you could just roadkill the bandaged guy in plaster blaster, i think i havent done that mission in 9 years though, isnt he well armored? dont they tell you to use rockets or something to kill him?

Im in a gta3 mood and in about 1 month liberty unleashed (another multiplayer mod) will be released.
Ive played about every gta game online and gta3 is by far the most intense and fun of all them, especially since a vehicle hit kills instantly.
Cant wait to pick victims with the dodo again, maybe we could play together sometime, if you like Smiley

looking forward to more segments!
Hey l2ebel, good to see you! I have a question I've been wanting to ask you for some time but I thought you left so it kept puzzling me.

Oh about 'Plaster Blaster', the mission only tells you to destroy the bodycast, not how to do it. It only tells you what doesn't work (bullets, fire) when you try it. Tongue Explosions and running over is the only thing that works, and with the Barracks it's done in one go. It needs a bit of speed though so that's why I drive a bit further to get a run up.

Anyway, what I wanted to ask. I was amazed by the Dodo strategy in your run and considered using some of your strategies for certain missions. But then I noticed that your final time is less than 2 minutes faster than SCM's final time in his run, while when leaving Portland you are 2 full minutes faster (I think you even mention it in the commentary). Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this logically add up to the Dodo strategy actually being slower? I'm kind of stumped and I feel like I'm missing something because it does look much faster..

Oh, and I've never actually played GTA multiplayer, I should probably check that out. Smiley

Entertaining segment, and looked pretty darn well executed. Using the Barracks truck to force your way over the guarded bridge instead of taking a boat or fighting was a great idea, and pretty funny to see. (I'm guessing you wouldn't've survived with an ordinary vehicle?)

I'm not in any position to comment in an informed and intelligent way on your route (with a game this big it would probably take a couple of weeks of study just to fully take it all in),  but it certainly looked like you got a lot of stuff done during Escort Service, and ending it right at the start of another mission was quite cool.

Looking forward to more progress. Smiley

Actually a complete barrel roll so that you land on the wheels is fully possible, I think I've managed to do this like 3 times in total... played this game to 100% at least 20 times. I didn't comment on the Dodo crash landing by the import/export garage mainly because that is the only way I could see it possible to land even remotely close.
Heh, yeah I once managed to crash right into the garage door and come to a complete stop in front of it, but usually if I do that it flips on its roof/side. This was very acceptable.

EC, yeah you wouldn't even make it onto the bridge in any other vehicle. Tongue I can't take credit for the strategy though, CannibalK9 did the same thing. Although it's quite obvious, I probably would have thought of it myself.

ending run at gametime:
SCM 23:19
me 02:34

-6h (i save one time more, means +6h game time)

20:34

23:19 - 20:34 = 2.45 mins faster

2.03 mins saved in seg1, 42 sec saved by using dodo

his and my run were timed differently i think (different people). I dunno why the game clock inst used anyway, since its in perfect seconds, just needs a tiny bit of math to consider segment count.

Using dodo definitely pays off. If id redo my 4th segment id use the dodo for all of espresso 2 go, knocking the second stall on portland in-flight. Takes a rediculous amount of precision to do without crashing afterwards but i could do it on every 3rd to 4th try. i could paint my actual route for that mission on a map if you like, with landing and takeoff spots etc.

damn i hate this forum layout, way to make things complicated..
Oh I see, that's kind of an oddly big difference in timing then. Weird. =/ I did figure out already that the Dodo is much faster though, after comparing the runs again. Before the whole Dodofest, SCM is 4,5 minutes ahead of you (at the start of Grand Theft Aero), so the Dodo saves quite a lot of time!

Use the Dodo for all of 'Espresso 2 go'? I'd definitely be interested in seeing that or the route that you would take. I'm probably going to dissapoint you (and maybe others) though when I say that I won't be using the Dodo in any other segments apart from the last one. This is simply because I have too much sidestuff to do to make it worthwile to use it. I won't even be visiting the airport anymore until 'S.A.M.' Unless of course you can think of any other missions where the Dodo would save so much time that it's worth it to pick it up?

Don't forget that you can check out a Dodo at the Import/Export garage in Portland now that it's complete.

Just wanted to say I just finished watching all of the segments and have to say up to now it's simply beautiful.
Eagerly waiting for more!
Oh yeah, forgot this thread exisited too.

I have nothing constructive to add, other than having the GTA theme play on the radio as you drove around town in your plane was genius.
That's the GTA theme? Never knew that, heh.

Segment 13! http://sevenload.com/videos/RZfy7It-GTA-III-100-speedrun-segment-13

This is the shortest segment of the run (well, not counting the last one), but certainly not the easiest. It includes D-Ice's first 4 missions, all of which depend on a shitload of luck. So yeah, I consider myself lucky I even finished it.

'Uzi Money' is a pain in the ass. I drive up to my hideout because there's no Hoods vans driving there cause they'll attack you as soon as they see you shooting their gang. I would only accept if I made it out in the car I start in, which is damn hard to do and depends a lot on the spawning of the Nines. 'Toyminator' isn't really hard. Only the last van has a significant influence on the time, because it can be anywhere. I got quite lucky here, this was real fast.

'Rigged To Blow' killed a lot of good segments. You have to drive through the tunnel and back without hitting anything and with the random traffic it's almost impossible. This wasn't my best attempt ever but very acceptable. After this mission the car is locked so I have to run away from the car to leave it open whenever I get out. That explains why I'm a little bit slow when getting out some times. The traffic can mess up the unique jump but it went fine here. If it takes too much damage when landing I usually don't make it through the mission. 'Bullion Run' is tricky, because of the police and picking up all the stuff in one go. It makes your car very slow and fragile. Luckily the police didn't do much here.

After that it's basically what CannibalK9 did, minus the airport jumps that I already did in the previous segment. If you're wondering what happens with the Firefighter missions, I found out that it's much faster to constantly turn the mission on and off because that loads a new burning vehicle instantly so I don't have to wait for it to generate. The only downside of that is that I have to count the fires and that I can't really focus on my driving. I hope it doesn't show too much, haha.

Next segment features 'Bait', lots of car collecting, jumps and rampages. So yeah.. wish me luck. Tongue
Nice segment. I really felt (?) with you while driving through the tunnel fearing that you get hit any second while overtaking. Cheesy

Can't wait for the next one. Smiley

ok ive tried to make a vid but fraps kept screwing up and my dodo skills are on an all time low.. so instead of showing something rather sloppy than fast - heres my E2G route http://i53.tinypic.com/4gs0hv.jpg
(The black lines are rocket shots)
The dodo driving on staunton is slow but the island transitions make up for it. I cant remember how much faster it is than dodo & banshee but its faster, especially in my case since the lift bridge wouldnt block me.

you didnt subtract 12h. Im about as much ahead as after segment 1. technically portland isnt a whole 2 mins faster cause i dont have enough time to get the m16. Without it i lose time in the next mission cause i cant shoot the van from far away and i need to collect the m16s after sniping the yakuzas. The dodo saved like 40-60 secs.

Snail eye monster as the boss Cheesy
That route looks pretty cool, I'm gonna try that for fun. Won't be useful in the run though, I have a bunch of sidestuff to do during the mission, as well as the fact that I need to end at Donald Love instead of Asuka. Would be great to see in a normal run though. I have a pretty good route too I think, with the Banshee. The bridge won't be a problem cause its time scheme can be manipulated.

Also that final boss made me laugh, haha.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
How's segment 14 coming along?
Hey, no progress yet. Simple reason being that I haven't really been trying. Tongue I've been planning a Vice City 100% run instead the last couple of weeks. I finished the complete route for that run a few days ago, but I'm not even sure if I'm going to do it cause planning it brought me to the conclusion that CannibalK9's Vice City run was already pretty damn good, so there would be a lot of the same strategies and that would be hardly entertaining. Things are also linked together much less 'pretty', for lack of a better word, than in GTA III. That, and the fact that I think Vice City is actually more frustrating than fun, makes me doubt if I'll ever do it.

Anyway.. back to this run, this following segment is the last one that's somewhat hard with the luck needed for car collection and all, but the last three are not much of a challenge really so when I finish this the rest shouldn't take too long. Busy with college though, so I couldn't tell you when to expect it, really.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Alright, thanks for the update, and good luck with college.

There we go, segment 14!

http://sevenload.com/videos/tsoMwTP-GTA-III-100-Speedrun-Segment-14

I thought this was pretty interesting:

Seg 13: 72% - M: 64/73, HP: 67/100, R: 12/20, UJ: 17/20, Firefighter: 60/60, DP: 16
Seg 14: 85% - M: 65/73, HP: 75/100, R: 15/20, UJ: 19/20, IE: 32/32 DP: 17

13% in one 20 minute segment, haha. I was quite surprised myself! I'm guessing it has to do with me collecting all 16 cars for the Shoreside Vale garage in one go. Really nearing the end now!

Some segment comments:

This whole segment is revolved around the car collecting. I do it during 'Bait' because the place I need to go to is close to the garage and it just makes sense cause I have the BF Injection now. The time when I need to be done collecting is determined by the weather in the next segment. That features 'Gripped' and I can't do that during rain, so I had to play ahead a bit and calculate when I had to be done. Turned out I needed to be done collecting at 12:30 in game time, as well as having done all other stuff. That was quite a challenge and requires a lot of luck.

Most cars spawn on the road just outside the garage and the ones that don't appear on the crossroad behind it. I keep collecting until I find a Banshee and then continue with the mission. 'Bait' itself is tricky because you can't really depend on the Yakuza's to do their job properly. I lead them to the shotgun guys but I think the first one got killed right away, haha. Oh well, it worked out. I help them with the last car because most of the time they can't handle it on their own.

The jumps I do are a pain in the ass. Especially the second one has caused a lot of attempts to fail because of the small landing zone. The sniper rampage is a bit glitchy. You can clearly see I hit them by the blood coming off, but the shots sometimes just don't register. Still a very good time though. I was lucky to keep my Banshee all the way through all that too.

I get the armor because I'm about to get slaughtered during the flamethrower rampage. Well usually I do, but I took a surprisingly small amount of hits this time. I usually don't make it out alive, so that was really good. I'm a bit shaky at this point, I hope it doesn't show too much in the M16 rampage, haha.

Critics and comments always welcome!

is anyone else having the problems where the video plays for 5 seconds, then buffers for 20 on an 8 mb connection?

Just got round to watching this. Some great luck and a great segment. Look forward to the last few segments.
Again im very suspicious, this guy has been going on and off with this speedrun. I doubt he's interested. Studies are more important, please  dont waste your tim e playing obsolete games just so you could please a few members here.
Zappy you make me laugh.
